Les Miserables – Shoujo Cosette – 27

Okay, so this was a filler. At least it had a few hidden meanings, when compared to the fillers we see in shounen-fillers. This episode was really meant to symbolize the relationship between Cosette and her mother, when les amis, Cosette and Jean reunite a young girl with her mother, and AGAIN barely missing each other. Still, I do wonder why this filler was included. After all, there is no danger at all that this series will catch up with its source material, so there has to be some other reason. If I had to guess, then I’d say that it’s to fill up a bit of time, and to make sure that the second half of the series, which has now officially started, doesn’t move too slow. The third arc has really been building up so far. Basically, all it’s been doing is move the pieces on a chess-board, and developing them. And after all, especially Marius needs to catch up in terms of fleshing out. Still, there were moments that were important for the storyline as well. I was quite surprised when Gavroche suddenly ran into his father! Luckily, the guy is too drunk to really take advantage of him, but I wonder what will happen once they run into each other again. Marius also reveals that he’s still interested in his “Yulle Shulle” (I really wonder how you spell that one in French). Also, the episode had one really good point: I really liked les amis after watching it.]]>

  1. It’s “Ursule.” LOLz
Cool, wanna see some amis in this…..and that shot of Thénardier…..that shot is….I can’t wait to see the context for that….
For some reason, Thénarder makes me think of m-preg with that outfit of his nowadays, despite the fact it looks like the kind of stuff I wear. But that shot is so amazingly evil…..*wanks*…..what’s he gonna do to Gavroche?! O_O;;; Creepy.

  2. I still can’t believe the guy with the beard is supposed to be L’Aigle. I mean, he’s bald in the book. How does that work out? xD

  3. It might be a toupee. Either tat, or it’s sort of like how the Thénardiess has half-decent-looking black hair instead of ugly orange, Cosette has blonde, or Marius ended up with dark blond hair and brown eyes. In other words, char designers having their funs.
The girl, Horette(?), I’m guessing some people got ahold of her, cut off the girls the mother’s picture shows her in, and made her wear boys’ overalls. She looks like a boy to me, though the name of teh episode (translated, course)’s “The Girl that Flew Away” rather than “the boy” or even “the child.”….
And anyone else catch the shot where they forgot to paint Thénardier’s nose?

  4. I didn’t actually notice the nose-part, and I’m quite surprised I didn’t. That nose is a rather striking feature of his after all.
But yeah, I think that the creators used some “artistical freedom” when they designed the characters. Cosette was a brunette in the book, right?
I think the reason Horette dressed up like a boy is because of that bakery she worked in (if my memory doesn’t deceive me). I have a suspicion that it would be rather hard for a girl to work there, so she was dressed up like a boy.

  5. I have a nose like his. Only it’s not as red. I’d pull off a crossplay of anime Marius better, though, and despite how doing that i’d burst out laughing roughly every time someone looked at me (or every five seconds. or both…).
And I guess I didn’t catch the bakery detail because my Japanese skills suck and I’d be super-embarrassed if my parents walked in while I was watching a show with the volume up and people were saying “KOZETTO! MARIUUS! JEAN BARUJEAN!” and staring lovingly at certain chars. I keep my obsessions secret.
Oh, and Yoroshiku ansubs just dropped Les Miserables for a sheezy harem comedy called Umisho. You might wanna check this page out. It’s a bit disheartening, that I’ll say…

  6. Oh my god… why Umisho of al things. Nice to see that they’re going for a show that will get subbed anyway, instead of helping Les Miserables get some attention. Now let’s hope that Delicious Fansubs will get active again.

  7. Yup, let’s hope. According to their IRC channel, they’re 0% finished with editing episode 6.
And I would fansub Mis if I had a lot more patience (and RAM, and some sort of typesetting thingy, and was better at Japanese) than I do. And I’d probly start at around episode 21 and do whichever raws I run across….
And a warning aobut that link — whatever the Umisho equivalent to Narutards (as One Piece fans know of obsessive biased 12-year-old Naruto fans as) is, there’s someone there making fun of meh using the name “dookie.”
*sigh*….I’m soo easy to make fun of…. and I’ve noticed the ZOMG FANSERVICE bias a bit in translating mangas, also. Hand-in-hand with he major One-Piece-secution for the sake of Naruto in the US….
Despite the fact I lost most of my interest in One Piece with the recent chapters, which I hardly ever follow….
