Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji – 23

Okay, this’ll be a short entry, since all this episode did was building up anyway. Kaiji, while still under the influence of the adrenaline from his match with Tonegawa, is screwed in the head enough to abandon the 20 million he won, just for a shot to challenge the chairman. Even though the chairman claims that it doesn’t really hurt him whether or not he loses, Kaiji is still determined to gamble. This begs the question: how is Kaiji planning to take revenge on the chairman? The most obvious strategy would of course be for the guy to put all of his money on the line. If it’s one thing that rich people are terrified of, it’s getting poor. But this guy is a professional. He just isn’t crazy enough to just do it for the life of one measly ant.

Apart from that, the pacing was as slow as usual, which isn’t the most exciting thing when this series isn’t in one of its climaxes, so I’ll withhold my judgement until the next episode.

  1. Kaiji’s not so crazy once you realize that he hasn’t REALLY won 20 million. The mob has made every possible excuse not to pay him off earlier and it’s doubtful that they would let him off this time.

Kaiji’s best option is to try to kill them off while he has the advantage – or else they’ll just keep coming after him.

  2. “NICE BOX” – haha.

My main issue with this episode was that I found the idea of building up a strategy relying on nothing but cheating rather dull. Everything before has been somewhat smarter. We’ll see how it’ll end up – while the premise of this gambling doesn’t sound too exciting, there must be *something* to make the last episodes reach a climax.

  3. Hey, Akagi made strategies based on cheating. I’m not going to judge yet. Obviously they wouldn’t even be having this gamble if it was going to be an instant win for Kaiji. Something unexpected is going to happen.

  4. Just making a random comment here to recommend an anime to you, that I think you might like. Uninhabited Planet Survive. You can find the torrent on Mininova, or find it on Crunchyroll, and it’s really good. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. ^_^ Unless you have already seen it, of course. ^^

  5. I’m addicted to some of Kaiji’s soundtracks, although i like Akagi’s OST better overall – definitely more fun

  6. I always liked Kaiji, but this eps what slightly a letdown. Hopefully they will throw in some awesome plottwist.
