DanMachi 2 – 8 [Killing Stone (Ephemeral Dreams)]

Hi everyone. Everybody okay after that episode? I think everyone who watched this week’s DanMachi needs to take a moment and have a circle hug. Just some nice pats on the back, some nice happy thoughts.

Alright, if everyone’s feeling a little better, let’s talk about this episode a bit.

Just a minor tangent: there has been ONLY ONE INSTANCE OF WHERE A GIRL HAS BEEN PICKED UP IN THIS DUNGEON. ONLY ONE. IT’S HAPPENED ONCE. And it was kind of cheating given the circumstances (I’m talking about Lili in S1). Bell has been a) Saved by Ais like 2-3 times, b) Downright kidnapped by Amazons. I feel like this show needs a new title: “How to pick up Bell-kun in a dungeon.”

This episode was a bit out there. I’m having Re:Zero flashbacks – think it was the torture dungeon. I’m pretty sure Bell is starting to get PTSD here – he was not doing well when saved from toad dungeon. This isn’t that little kid show we used to know from Season 1…this is cynical adult DanMachi2, here to beat you up and take your money.

Also, Bell gets CALLED OUT like I haven’t seen a shounen protagonist get called out. (Maybe Re:Zero when Emilia called out Subaru, but that was like an interpersonal issue). Bell gets shamed in front a crowd and honestly deserves it. This rabbit’s hero identity is being severely challenged.

Aisha is an interesting character. As demonstrated by her story, Haruhime won’t ever reach out her hand to ask for help or try to be saved, because she doesn’t believe she’s worth it. Aisha has a bit more of a complicated approach. It seems like she desperately wants to save Haruhime (I think she probably broke a Killing Stone, which means she condemned Haruhime to death…that’s speculation though).

But that’s a HUGE ask that she’s trying to goad Bell into – getting into a war with a familia that’s currently about to take on a city. Like…Hestia family, has, what? Like 5 people tops? Half of them are loaners. Bell got handled pretty easily by 2 of Ishtar’s squad….seems bad odds.

Side note: Does anyone know who the random werewolf/renard was, by the way? Was that Bete from Loki? He was apparently knew Bell since he was complaining how his job was harder.

I’ve figured it out, I think DanMachi should take the customary beach episode or something and just give everyone a break here. I usually hate those, but I really think everyone involved could use a vacation. Is it weird that I miss Apollo and his shenanigans? He was small potatoes by comparison – his version of messed up deity seems quite harmless and comical now.

In other news, I’m now afraid of giant toads. I was laughing when they ate Aqua in KonaSuba. I’m not laughing now.

  1. That random “man” was actually a cat-person called Allen Fromel, Vice-Captain of the Freya Familia, and the older brother of Anya Fromel. The scene was incredibly truncated from the LN, but it’s the first sign that Freya is aware and monitoring the situation.

  2. Ah brilliant – have we seen him before in the anime? As far as I’m aware, we’ve really only seen Ottar dispatched from Freya (although he was more than enough firepower)
