I’m going to consider this the finale of Fire Force. You know those complaints about fight scene choreography I had in previous episodes? The reason for the problems was everyone was working on this episode. Seriously, I actually watched this one twice. Fire Force is on an upwards trajectory and I’m pumped!

Fire Force – 13 [The Trap is Set]
So this is the finale of the first half of Fire Force…and it doesn’t really feel like a finale at all. But that’s okay! It’s one of the better episodes we’ve seen from our 8th brigade so far – mainly because it feels as though some of the fight scene animation demons have been (partially) exorcised this week. Let’s go!

My Hero Academia S4 – 02 [Overhaul]
Welcome to the kick-off of My Hero Academia, Season 4! (Last week’s episode didn’t really count, since it was FILLER…not a recap!). Continue reading “My Hero Academia S4 – 02 [Overhaul]”
Fall 2019 Anime Coverage & First Episode Awards
Mario: If you ever wonder what is the current state of anime right now, well look no further than this final season of the 2010s as the Anime Goddess has offered us … half a dozen isekai shows. To be fair though, I have a feeling we’re reaching the post-isekai era where these shows appear to poke fun at the genre’s usual tropes (whether they’re actually funny is another topic). I also regard this season as a late bloomer, given how all these good shows aired at the tail end of our impressions (with several sequels still to come). Nevertheless, we’ve got our traditional First Episode Awards right down below, along with the blogging schedule for this Fall. With Armitage taking a seasonal hiatus and Aidan briefly coming back for more battles in space, this season we writers also aim to make a weekly summary where we can chime in on shows that aren’t receiving regular coverage. Enjoy the last breeze of the decade, folks.

Fire Force 12 – Eve of Hostilities in Asakusa
Welcome back to Beni town! After a two week break, Fire Force has awkwardly picked back up with its penultimate episode (for the first cour). Missed Shinra and the gang? Unfortunately, there’s some Catgirl this week, but aside from that, we have another solid effort all around. Let’s get into it!

DanMachi2 Anime Review – 40/100
“Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon” burst onto the anime scene as something of a B-tier cult classic. 2015 saw Season 1 massively outperform expectations – ignoring the occasionally shoddy animation – to bring excitement and mostly fan service (and the cosplayer favorite: the Hestia ribbon). Now, four years later, the much anticipated sequel has concluded. How did DanMachi2 do?
To answer that question, a word on my grading criteria. For me, each show has 50 points to earn and 50 points to lose. Points are earned by going above and beyond the norm – showing me something I hadn’t seen or making me feel something unexpected. Something that makes me applaud.
Points are lost when I feel a component of the show was below average or less than acceptable in terms of animation, storyline, etc. Something that takes away from the show as a whole.
Let’s take a look!
DanMachi2 – 12 [ Goddess/Child (Song of Love) ] FINAL
DanMachi2 is the kid in class who everyone knows is smarter than their grades reflect. If only they would get it together and take things seriously. In the finale of this mess of a second season, DanMachi finally rouses itself and delivers an episode worth watching.

Songs of Summer 2019
Summer is ending. Depending where you are in the world, the leaves may be turning, days may be getting shorter, and we bid adieu to many new friends we made this season (I’ll miss you Momo Chiyoda!).
To help pass the time before the fall season starts fresh, us esteemed writers have brought you a perfect playlist to help transition from the summer doldrums to fall’s great (sequel) expectations. And – since we’re writers – we explain why we like these tunes, then let you have listen. Enjoy! |
Fire Force – 11 [Formation of Company 8 / The Mightiest Hikeshi]
Unlike other shows I’m watching, Fire Force seems to be hitting stride right at the end of the season. I still argue this show is best in episodes like this one – minimal fight scenes, which they struggle with, and limited catgirl.

DanMachi2 – Army’s Advance (Rakia)
DanMachi is sliding down a muddy hill. That’s both a summary of what happened this episode and the state of this season’s quality in general.
