Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru – 13

This was the climax of the first half of this series, and you know what? It was the best episode of this show yet. There was of course Yuki’s angst over Kanata and all, but seriously, this was a very exciting episode that also pushed these characters a bit further. And surprisingly, it was Takashiro of all people that stole this episode for me.

This episode also showed how good the soundtrack of this series can be, and the entire episode really looked gorgeous with all of the visuals that JC Staff were experimenting with. Seriously, I prefer the way they render blood far above the ketchup you usually see in anime. On top of that, we got plenty of hints of background for Reiga (plus Takashiro, which explains pretty much why the Giou clan is used to hunt for these things).

Overall, I’m happy now, and with all of the mid-bosses dead at this point, I’m very interested in the second half of this series. It’s here where the creators really are going to have to use the development of these characters, in order to develop them even more. They’re going to have to spent a number of episodes fully detailing how the characters were in their past lives, and how they changed, ESPECIALLY Reiga and Takashiro. The prospect of that alone is bound to make the second half more interesting than the first.

By the way, does anyone know how far we’re into the manga?

  1. Whoa. One of the scenes looks like it’s made of 3D CGI and looks like it’s from a Final Fantasy game…which looks awesome!

  2. As of episode 13, we’re up to vol.4 of the manga. I supposed the 2nd half of the series will cover the next 3 volumes. Can’t wait to see them animate the scenes in vol.6 & 7.

  3. OMG show can begin now 😀

I don’t hate this show, it’s well done overall with impressive animation, soundtrack and direction. But damn it it’s so slow and kind of blandly generic. I hope it develops seriously in term of action, background and metaphysics in order to make it something else than a lack luster copy of X/Angel Sanctuary/Mirage of Blaze.

  4. Hmm, seems like there will be an interesting turn of events in this episode.

How do you all watch the latest episode so quickly anyway? I can only watch the episodes after a week when it has already aired.

This series has something that makes me turn away from it a little, but it looks gorgeous and I really the feeling that it gives. I just can’t seem to realise what it is that doesn’t make me like it quite that much though…well nothing is perfect, at least not often.

  5. Wow, this episode was really awesome!
Everything (audio, visuals, narration) worked together so perfectly!
If the rest of the series will be as great as this episode (and the things it promised with all its hints to past events) then this might really become my favorite fantasy series this year!

  6. Great episode. Great Sound Track! Yes, Takashiro stole the show here.

Good that anime creators did insert glimpse of the Reiga’s and Takashiro’s past… the manga did not do that; also in manga, Ruka/Zess also interfered in the fight (aparently, couldn’t bare to see Reiga hurted yuki mentally). So in manga, Takashiro did not get to shine and did not give a great impact as in anime…

The next few episodes, if follow the manga, will be of slower pace when things are resovled and slowly build up for the next climax… the most interesting thigs to be expact are Yuki’s and Takashiro’s past life.

Since the manga has not end and if the anime is well recieved, 2nd season is possible. Cross the finger that it will not be like Vampire Knight.

  7. I love this show, you guys saw how they averted a stupid shonen trope again?(first one being Hotsuma and Shusei fighting together) Reiga comes in and instead to (*facepalm*) stupidly kill off his defeated subordinates he heals them!!!
