Uninhabited Planet Survive Review – 85/100

Uninhabited Planet Survive. Now, if that isn’t a descriptive title, then I don’t know anymore. I do want to warn those who are planning to check it out, though: it is not a series that aims to be the most realistic. Some of the things that the kids here end up building and pulling off just stretch the suspense of disbelief. Not to mention that during the months (perhaps even year) that they spend on that deserted planet, their hair never goes off-model, and their clothes magically repair themselves. I know a lot of other anime do that and all, but with such a premise it really sticks out.

Having said that though, I am very impressed with this series, and the incredible amounts of challenges it puts in front of its characters to overcome. They may be kids, but damn: they really work hard in order to be able to survive; hardly anything is handed to them on a silver platter. Every day they need to find food and take care of themselves, they have to build everything, from tools to shelters from scratch. A lot of this series really is just these eight characters, trying to keep living on this strange and unknown planet. This show has 52 episodes, and this length really makes it into one heck of an engaging series.

So yeah, they’re kids, all of around fourteen years old. They start out pretty annoying and one-sided; especially Howard was specifically designed to get on your nerves. They really do grow on you, though. Throughout the series they are well explored and developed, and especially the bond that forms between them ends up as very memorable. The series spends plenty of time developing themes as leadership, sacrifices and family to really make this a well rounded cast (it really makes use of these 52 episodes to let everything change very naturally). The part that impressed me the most was the surprisingly mature looks on blame and forgiveness.

The main problems with this series lie in the way that it’s a children’s adventure. I personally like this genre a lot, but it has A TON of pitfalls that are very easy to hit, and this series unfortunately didn’t manage to avoid all of them. It’s not the fact that this series is childish: really, for a show of its kind it has plenty of mature moments. The thing is however that near the end it tries to be too epic, resulting into a ton of pointless and cheesy Deus ex Machina that could have been totally avoided by a much more mellow ending. The first episode also is probably the worst episode of the entire series, in which the creators for no reason put the characters’ lives in danger, before anything had even happened yet.

These cheesy episodes are a relatively small part of the total airtime of this series, but they’re a bit inconveniently placed, right at the beginning and end of the series. Apart from that though, whenever this series just focuses on the cast trying to survive, learn about each other and the planet they’re on, I really enjoyed it, and this just gets better and better as the show goes on.

You can really see that this is from the same creators as the Secret of the Cerulean Sand: both do end up stretching your suspense of disbelief, and try to be a bit too epic, yet they’re very engaging adventures. Secret of the Cerulean Sand has a much faster pacing, while Uninhabited Planet Survive has a much better cast of characters and feels much more natural in its pacing.

Storytelling: 8/10 – Wonderfully paced and played out, really giving the cast ample time on the deserted planet. The finale is riddled with Deus ex Machina, though.
Characters: 9/10 – Start annoying, develop wonderfully. Great themes between them.
Production-Values: 8/10 – Simple, but do their job. The soundtrack has some great tracks.
Setting: 9/10 – Tries to be a bit too epic for its story near the end, but it still is a very imaginative world that the characters ended up in. Lots of neat science fiction as well.

The Secret of Cerulean Sand

  1. I’m glad you watched and reviewed this ^^
I watched it a few years ago and I was wondering whether you would like it or not : now i have the answer 🙂
    I’m glad you liked it.
I was a bit afraid when I started this series but i’m happy I watched it until the end 🙂

  2. Did you notice how it’s basically divided in four 13 episode arcs? The first and the third are awesome (settling in and the boat ride) and the second and last pile up the bad stuff so hard. The second, winter, had Alien Kid’s non-character development and Kaoru’s badly thought out extra dramatic backstory.

I do think it was pretty realistic in the first quarter and mostly realistic in the third quarter, though. In the beginning they had to create everything from scratch, starting from fire, and the way they made everything didn’t pull too hard on the disbelief-meter. The shower was really ingenious.

It’s a great series 😀 I wrote a lot on it when I watched it ( http://myanimelist.net/blog/Kiraly , first thing there) and I usually don’t care enough about a series to do so.

  3. I watched this series about two years ago or so and I really liked it.
It started of a bit slow and I only kept watching it because I had nothing else to do but after the first few episodes it reallystarted to grow on me.
Especially the character interactions and their individual development was really awesome!
Esecially as all of their personal problems and reactions were rather understandable and I liked that this series decided to reallycope with those problems because they HAD to keep together as a group in order to survive. And thus everyone had to learn to work together, not to let oneself being taken over byfear or greed.

The final episodes really were a bit too much but all in all I really liked that series and never regretted watching it.

  4. I watched 3 episodes in and dropped this series years ago, not because I didn’t really like it..just because of its length. I just wasn’t really up to it, but of course you always motivate me to pick these kinds of shows back up after you give them a good score~ I’ll try it again later~:3

On a side note, I’m on episode 8 of Strange Dawn, and I’m in love with the chibis. x3 But the two girls are a bit boring.. I’ll catch up with the subs later (episode 10), to see what’s going on then.

  5. I watched this on TV and liked it at the time, more than a couple of years ago, but would probably give it a lower score. Not sure if by a little or by a lot, that would depend on the specifics.

  6. I watched this show two months ago and I was looking forward to your review for it. I loved this anime, and while I agree with you on the ending, I thought the previous episodes more than made up for it. I especially enjoyed the character development. I definitely recommend it.

  7. Wow, you finally watched/reviewed this gem! *_* I’m so glad. ♥ Yeah, the ending is a bit too much over the top and too much Deus ex Machina, and I really think Howard’s character could have been developed even more, but all in all, it’s a solid, lovely show.

  8. finally someone that agrees with me that this show is really watchable. i have been ridiculed when suggesting this show ;).

  9. in another spin off of uninhabited planet survivors this one takes place about 70 years after this Luna finished Terra forming or making the earth possible for humans to live in again after many colonies were made on other planets throughout space. Luna now has her grandchildren living on a newly earth which was abandoned during the 21st century and in 22nd century people would live in space colonies on many formerly desolate planets. one of Luna’s grandchildren named Lilly is the new main female protagonist. a robot named Bantam serves as Lilly’s pet and also as her adopted mother due to her parents died from an unknown cause.

    1. What is the name of the spin off/ I been trying to search for the name but no luck, is it in Japanese? I watched this anime when i was like 7 years old but its really different of how i remember it. i would like to continue this story to the end and how it ends please and thank you, also did luna ended up with bell or with kaoru?.

  10. Sharla was a very famous writer until she retired and now her son Shane goes to school with Lilly. Menori Visconti has a been part of the parliament in space for a long time her nephew Montgomery Visconti is the new student body president of Venn Academy of planet Edens a newly discovered planet capable of supporting life. Venn Academy also now is famous for having lots of powerful people who were part of Terra forming this planet including Luna, bell, Kaoru, and Shingo themselves also landed on this planet.

  11. Howard’s son Howard Junior also goes to Venn Academy on planet Edens now it also has many aliens and robots to staff the school as teachers and some as students including some from planet Survive. Bell’s daughter belle also goes to this school and she has a personality similar to how Menori Visconti and Howard senior used to act she is vice president of Venn Academy and Montgomery Visconti’s girlfriend and right hand girl.

  12. Shingo has an apprentice who also goes to Venn Academy his name is Bassets. Kaoru’s son Michel is just like his father and a bit of a lone wolf at first until he became friends with the other students. a kid named Louisa is from planet survive and a relative to Adam. Louisa’s middle name is porter after Porte an old mechanic who helped Luna and the others for a short time before dying of a space sickness.

  13. Brian Stallone is the new main antagonist of this series and he is Howard senior’s insane talent manager who persuades the original gang of Luna, Chako, Kaoru, Sharla, Menori Visconti, Howard, Bell, and Shingo to take a interview and they supposed to make a documentary film about their first adventures together. he is later shown to be a con artist as he illegally steals ideas from others and make them his own. he also makes a false trip to a distant resort planet for the original human team to access planet survive which only had alien people, monstrous plants, animals, trees, lakes, islands, rivers, and cities. he also invites their family to join them together.

  14. Brian Stallone also has many criminals he hires to do his dirty work including a cyborg and two escaped prisoners. he also has been given nanobots in his blood to activate his own artificial intelligence that can control the climate of planets. he names the program Reapers to take control of multiple space colonies and planets so that he becomes a powerful and wealthy member of parliament and get revenge from the original team and their children. he also likes playing games and forcibly make them part of a reality show where they each have survive on another desolate planet. the reapers program also creates a powerful gravity storm just like what happened when original gang were supposed to go on a field trip to learn about planetary settlements.

  15. Brian Stallone has a very sad past where he was orphaned at age four and lived all by himself just like Luna as his parents were murdered by criminals. he promised to get revenge for his parents deaths and also was bullied a lot when he was younger and eventually dropped out of school. he later has a rivalry with Howard Senior to become a great actor like him. he was fired for taking his acting skills to the extreme and kidnapped actors to make short films that put many actors in danger. he also has planned to join a space pilot academy but his grades were below average. he later turned into a psychopathic criminal who only desires power, revenge, wealth, fame, and steal things from people.

  16. Brian Stallone has a very sad past where he was orphaned at age four and lived all by himself just like Luna as his parents were murdered by criminals. he promised to get revenge for his parents deaths and also was bullied a lot when he was younger and eventually dropped out of school.

  17. later the Reapers goes haywire and its is more evil and insane than Brain Stallone and the survive program on planet survive. this malfunctioning program want to exterminate all life in this other uninhabited planet like survive did before than spread itself to kill inhabitants of other space colonies and control thousands of space colonies throughout the galaxy. the name of this spin off is uninhabited planet survive 2 Reapers’s revenge.

  18. but their is also a new helpful ally in the form of a benevolent and wise artificial intelligence also installed years ago by another ancient alien civilization called Angel. this one helps the original gang and the new survivors their children to defeat the reapers program and restore the natural balance of this other new uninhabited planet.

  19. Adam from planet Survive also comes to help and he is about 30 years old by his planet’s timeline and is shown to also be a planetary settlement worker like his parents. he is is also very smart and knows many things on how to handle surviving in harsh conditions. Adam, Louisa, Luna, Montgomery, Belle, and Lilly both are chosen to be the leaders of the team. Chako and Bantam are shown to be rivals and at first but later get along as friends. Chako is also now upgraded to have new skills and abilities to assist the team together with Bantam. Shin go and Bassets help out with inventing useful things for the team. Kaoru, Shane, Bell, Howard Junior, Menori Visconti, and Sharla all have different tasks to perform. Michel also is quite reliable knowing how to hunt, fish, make fires, gathers water, and he is shown to like writing down in his diary and carry’s a handy backpack wherever he goes like Luna.

  20. Adam is the main male character and leads the men and Luna is the one in charge of the girls. later they combine their efforts to survive and go back home.

  21. Brian Stallone also likes capturing and hunting animals which he shares with Howard Senior and Howard Junior plus Howard senior’s father is mentioned a lot and so is Porte, Louis, Far Low, Pague, and Luna’s dad who is now Lilly’s great grand father.

  22. Adam’s parents and his relatives are also mentioned or the Native Survivors as their species is called now.

  23. here the adults are about 65 or older with some younger adults. the children are mostly teenagers just like their parents were before when they crashed into planet survive.

  24. here another similarity is that Howard Jr screams and says the word papa when he is scared just like Howard Sr. Howard senior also inherited the Howard Corporation from his father and is also an important member of the space parliament.

  25. the main adults look similar to their children expect they are taller, have facial hair, are a bit stronger than their kids, have the same personalities, and they each have a task to perform to survive and go back home.

  26. when the male adults and female adults join together the kids also follow and make Adam and Luna the newest leaders of their team after a while.

  27. the spin off also involves more fan service like moments like the characters are naked, wear revealing clothes, bathing suits, or relax in hot springs with towels to cover themselves. there is also more comedy, action, romance, adventure, science fiction elements are more prevalent including references to time travel and clones also being developed.

  28. this story also involves a gravity storm that goes wrong but is actually caused by Brian Stallone the first main antagonist character who created a gravity storm creating device. he is also a bit of a scientist who loves inventing things and selling them to people. the spin off also begins at the gravity storm where the main characters again land on an seemingly uninhibited planet with giant alien animals and monsters plus monstrous deadly plants on an island. they later fix the reapers program and they eventually finds a fleet of spaceships to take them back home.

  29. there is also a bit more blood, guts, and gore as animals are killed for food or when the main characters are injured. but later they heal these injuries heal quickly.

  30. when the main characters all go back to the Terra formed colony back on earth they give the uninhibited planet the name the Good Angel.

    1. Man i wish that i could watch it can’t seem to find it anywhere unfortunally. Do u know where i can find this?
