Uchuu Kyoudai – 35

This episode was recommended to me in order to cheer up from being sick, so I’m putting it ahead a bit of the other shows this week. And yeah: this episode is as we feared: the creators managed to dedicate an entire episode to Kenji’s results from the third exam. At the end of this episode, we still don’t know what happened to Mutta.

Having said that though, this episode was completely and utterly adorable. Kenji already was an awesome character, and here this episode comes and gives him even more character. We finally learn exactly why he chose to become an astronaut, and what he did before he met Mutta, while this episode was entirely occupied with building up to that one moment, where he heard whether he passed the exam or not.

And that moment actually brought some tears to my eyes. The creators here were evil and just kept dragging it out, using Kenji’s daughter also really well in it, and how the bald guy just kept going on and on with his story. Also don’t tell me that the rest of the characters will also get their own episode dedicated to their results. It’s gonna take ages before we know how Mutta did.
Rating: 6.5/8 (Amazing)

  1. Tbh, I was totally ok with Kenji not passing when the episode started. I was totally expecting him to either fail or let Mutta go in his place. As the episode went on though…

let’s just say I had to wipe my keyboard dry by the end.

    1. It’s because this isn’t an adaptation of a shonen manga or aimed towards otaku/shonen.

Pretty rare a Seinen manga gets a treatment like this, thank you A-1! Why can’t you guys make more shows like Space Brothers, Tsuritama and Working!! and less SAO( or at least do shows in that vein justice)

  2. I totally predicted that the episode was gonna make me tear up when it looked like it was dedicated to just kenji.

  3. 1) It is amazing how much I cared if this fictional character passed a fictional exam he is lucky just to have taken. Bravo Space Brothers

    2) I know (many!) people who met in high school and married in all sorts of walks of life. It happens.

  4. Next episode seems like it will be the same but about Serika. And honestly after this episode I am completely content with that. Definitely shed a few tears at the end of the episode.

  5. didn’t cry at all but was deeply touched, especially being a science graduate student myself at the moment.

  6. they really kept me guessing, i was like EEEEEEEEE JUST TELL MEEEEE

and even though i knew he had to pass, i still had those moments of doubt.

also. made me want to eat katsu don
