Zettai Karen Children
Well, here’s a surprise. I was about to condemn this series to the depths of hell, but it actually turned out quite entertaining for a light watch. It’s definitely not meant to be taken seriously, but series like that are nice once in a while as well. It really reminded me of a raunchy version of Power Puff Girls Z, and that definitely has potential for the future. There’s just one thing: I still don’t understand what people find so good about Hirano Aya. Her voice is annoying and way too exaggerated, and probably the most annoying thing of this first episode. What this series needs to do now is introduce interesting side-characters, and keep itself fresh throughout its entire run. I also hope that the big bad guy isn’t entirely serious and has a humorous side as well. A lot of good comedies have been ruined before because the major villain took himself too seriously.
No, that’s not a typo. Apparently, it’s the official spelling of this series according to this episode. In any case, this episode had a few too many things in common with a bad soap. Amnesia? Suzaku who has become even more stereotypical than he already was? The military knew about Lelouch, and yet they didn’t kill him as soon as they got the chance? This series is becoming harder and harder to take seriously. Ah well, at least it’ll be good for some brainless action, and with a bit of luck the upcoming episodes will become so over-the-top that they’ll be worth a good laugh.
Nabari no Ou
That main character sounds way too much like a girl! Whenever he talks, I keep seeing a strange Shana/Nagi/Louise clone acting tsundere. In any case, Nabari no Ou has solid production-values, but I’m not that excited about this series. Perhaps its the fairly generic premise so far, perhaps it’s the fact that the main cast all consists out of bishies while all the bad guys are ugly, or perhaps it’s because none of the characters has been particularly interesting so far. It’s not like I expected anything from this series, but it’s still a shame that it turned out so generic so far.
Aya Hirano tries too hard in Zettai Karen Children : watch NANA and you’ll understand what’s so great about her anwyay.
And… what the FUCK is a “Revellion” ??! I guess that it’s because “b” and “v” pronunciations in japanese are similar and they just heard the word “reberionn” and tried to spell it in english.
This series never stops making me laugh.
I belive Hirano Aya has one of the biggest antis ever. Although I think she’s not too bad her tone often gets tired to listen.
And about Code Geass, I totally agree with you. I was going like Who the heck are you, Lulu? Seriosuly, I never thought we need any Shota or pink-haired loli.
how can u not love code geass !!!!!!!1 its amazing i loved every second of it its epic man and this episode didnt disappoint
As for Nabari no Ou… i would recomend the manga as a read before putting everything on the show. Im a fan of the manga but even I wasn’t hugely impressed by the first ep… but then again it was spoiled from all the advertisements… it seemed fairly dry and quiet… and the voices… just give it a bit more of a chance, these first few eps will probably be set up…but then again dont expect huge amounts of action either. its more of a daily life kind of thing… with a mix of ninja in the middle. (they all have one goal and have to fight each other to obtain it… yeah… expect that too)
xd the Revellion u used made me laugh a bit :p
anyway Code Geass was always like watching a soap opera with mechas and still i can enjoy it because i don’t take it to serious, the plots are quite silly and even hilarious at times but at least i can see some great mecha fights and this anime has also good animation and the music is not bad either so i have quite a lot of fun watching this anime
Yup, I also respect and Code Geass for being inintentionnaly funny and very silly.
“You told them to “shoot”, not to “kill”, suckass !”
^^
Zettai Karen Children. Well, the first chapter of the manga looked average, especially with the character designs. But I doubt it’s something I will ever like, so I suppose it’s unfair to bash it.
Code Geass. Second Season. Popularity. Milking.
Well, I was expecting Nabari no Ou to be good, but it looks bland and fairly unrewarding, both in story and production – it feels to me like the Rental Magica of this Spring.
Plus, the music is totally out of place for a show about Ninjas. Even Naruto made efforts to include typical japanese music to compliment the genre. The soundtrack belongs more to a show about elemantary-school girls riding their bikes or something.
smita: because some viewers are smart enough to depart from the norm
C’mon man you’re not even trying with that Code Geass paragraph, it’s not exactly hard to figure out why the military left him alive. (Admiral Ackbar’s famous 3 words come to mind!) If you’re going to insult the series don’t post stuff that makes you look bad by asking questions of stuff a ten year old can figure out. It’s so easy to rip this series too… As for the Amnesia I suggest you look at the OP, the guy with geass in his eye with wrinkles on his face isn’t Lelouch.
Sorry, but I don’t care what kind of explanation the creators tried to use, but Lelouch has just nearly brought down a successful rebellion and can do the same now that he’s got his memory back. What good reason was there for the military not to kill the guy?
I disagree with Geass. It’s made to be acing in shameless political intrigue and ridiculousness in terms of character development. If you’re bashing it for its status quo, you are not getting the show at all. I do think it is well made and captivating enough for it to be deservedly popular enough. As for others, Kamen no Maid Guy made me LOL and so did Zettai Karen.
You can’t support a show by saying that it’s faults are its “Status Quo”. They’re still faults.
@ psgels
Who gave Lelouch the contract that allowed him the Geass power? The whole point of the operation was to lure C.C out. Kill Lelouch and you lose your only tool to lure her out. What stops her from making a new contract with someone else down the road?
This doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out, you’re letting your hate for the show cloud your judgment.
Westlo: okay, I can sortof understand how the military would want to use Leouch to lure C.C. out. What I’m still wondering is why these soldiers never took the Geass-ability into account, why they didn’t have a backup-plan and why only only a bunch of seemingly inexperienced soldiers were assigned to such an important task.
Because they didn’t think Lulu COULD get his Geass back (they also didn’t think CC could take a shot to the heart and live).Right before the Geass took effect, the soldier said “Huh….It can’t be..”. He was NOT expecting Lulu to be able to use Geass again. And I don’t know what the hell YOU were watching, but my version has “Rebellion” written. If you are going to bash a show, at leas bring REAL arguments, not frustrations over the fact that the boring shows you like are not getting subbed.
That’s the thing that’s bugging me. How could he not have anticipated something to go wrong? He’s basically been assigned to a task that mustn’t fail, no matter what happens (because the result would be that Zero would be back into action for another attempt to take the throne), and why was he so incredibly careless? If he really didn’t take any precautions, then Britannia seriously needs to reconsider all the people they hire.
Also, the raw-version that I watched misspelled the title on the eye-catch. Apparently, it was fixed before the other raws came out.
I must appologise about something .There really WAS a version with “Revellion” at the eye-catch. It’s only there for half a second.

“If you are going to bash a show, at least bring REAL arguments, not frustrations over the fact that the boring shows you like are not getting subbed.” Comment by DmonHiro.
So this is the sort of crowd Psgels has to put up with? Code Geass proves that it does have rabid fanboys who’ll overreact over a simple difference of opinions and bring personal taste into an argument.
And the shows that Psgels watch aren’t “boring”, they’re simply too damn complex for ADD-sufferers like you to cope with, and they aren’t even that complex.
Way to give Code Geass an even worse reputation than before, tard. Isn’t it pretty obvious that this blog doesn’t just worship the mainstream stuff that so many rush to claim is apparently the best.
Geez, no need to insult the blogger.
Denizen: well, there’s no need to go and insult back either. 😉 Indeed, I like complex shows a lot, but I can’t really classify shows as El Cazador and Porfy no Nagai Tabi as complex, even though I love watching them.
Ahh…..the simple pleasure of reading about an “enraged” individual who tries to defend someone who does not nedd any help. First of, I did not insult psgels, nor do I have any intention of doing so. Second…..if you consider Porfy to be complex….then my friend…..there’s really no point in having an argument with you, now is there?
Third, Code Geass has a bed reputation…..hmm….yeah…..I guess THAT is why it ranked a average of 8.5 on AniDB and ANN with over 1000 people rating it at and above “Excellent”.
Extra: I love it when people just KNOW how samrt another is, from his/her posts…..but that just proves just how smart “someone else” really is, don’t you think?
DmonHiro, I like how you try to be all confident and cool and relaxed, but all you did was reply with nitpicking and invalid points.
There is indeed no point having an argument with you, since you would just end up debating like an adamant child. Typical of a person who finds something like Porfy mundane and thinks that because likeminded people all obsessed over the same show, it creates a credible statistic.
You bore me, argument over.
Argument over? We were having an argument?
“An argument is a set of one or more declarative sentences known as the premises (singular is also spelt “premiss” in British English), along with another declarative sentence known as the conclusion”
Also…..those who are in control of a situation, need not say it, so your final statement is pretty much in violation of itself.
As for the shows (since I wasted too much time on you), of the three mentioned here, I only got to see Geass, so I can’t comment on the others. I did however get a chance to watch the first episode of Kurenai, and it seemed quite interesting, you should give it a shot, it’s even subbed
I would say geass has a reputation as being quite over the top and I think it is one of those shows that people either fight with or relax and go with the flow. While I can’t judge the entire show or the details of it as I only watched the first episode, I haven’t felt compelled to watch the second episode for various reasons, many of which I’m sure are enjoyed by others.
I think enjoyment of all series comes down to whether you ‘get’ it or not and I don’t get code geass and I don’t think that’s a bad thing, however I can see why others would like it as I am not interested in mecha or lots of action in anime.
I have never really been able to understand the hype around code geass.
Well that earlier about code geass regarding how those soldier didn’t take precaution against Geass. I was a bit confused there, mainly as to why the soldier would even know about geass.
I mean, in the first season, there was practically no one in the military that even know about geass. There was clovis, and possibly schnizel, but they seem to have discovered its existence on their own rather than from the military (clovis claim he’ll be disinherited if this leaks, and the emperor and schnizel seem to be on almost rivalry-like terms). Other than that there’s the emperor, and V.V. who seem to be very much linked to the emperor(according to the ED anyway). So why then would a lowly soldier like that guy in the tower know something even Cornelia/Euphemia never heard of? And they are also under direct order from the emperor. So for all we know the emperor could have just given the order of “follow lelouche, he’ll lead you to C.C., when that happens, kill them”. I don’t see why he have any reasons to go in detail with these soldiers. Also the emperor from season one doesn’t seem threatened at all by Zero, so I doubt he would pay all that much attention to him.
But that’s just me, overall I still find Code Geass very enjoyable. The episode didn’t go into detail about what happened at the end of first season, it mainly introduce their life in the one year later aftermath. But I actually find this pretty satisfying. But there were bits of flashback that shows the end of the first season, so I’m sure that timeskip will be explained at some point through the season. My theory is that at right after the end of the first season, C.C. did something that puts Lelouche into a new life with a set of false memories, along with altering the memory of everyone he ever used geass on.
am i the only one getting a dejavu from cgr2 1st ep? i mean… come on, got cornered by soldiers, cc got shot, lelouch got geass, all soldier die… ring any bells? i expected something better *sigh*.
n concerning the trap/lure thing, i think it can only be answer after the 1 year gap events revealed. though, it’d be stupid not to kill lelouch if they already knew he’s zero. i mean, why bother shooting the right hand when u could clearly make a headshot?
I disagree with you Denizen. If you’re criticizing the show for striving to do something (which is a light, sensationalistic mecha), then you shouldn’t be watching it to begin with. It’s not the show’s fault. It’s just a matter of opinion. Don’t pass it off like it’s some hardcore fact that it has silly plotholes and outrageous plotlines. How you receive it is your own business.
Ah, seriously. Code Geass was pretty stereotypical, but it’s still awesome. You can’t say no to Kallen in a bunny suit ^^
Though there are alot of stereotypes in Code Geass, I must say I like the protagonist. The must save everybody and be the nicest person ever hero type is really really beginning to bore me.
About Code Geass, do you know if Cornelia died in the last episode of the first season? I don’t know why but I thought she was just injured but now it seems like she won’t be back in the 2nd. Let me know, please!!!
Not dead, but she is missing
You mean they just can’t find her ? So we may still hear about her later on in this series?Really? I feared her death. Thanks for telling me this! But no one knows where Cornelia and Nanaly are ,right? I don’t understand how Lelouch could have forgotten his sister Nanaly for whom he nearly destroyed ” the world”! It can’t be! Actually I thought the 1st of the 2nd season would show him finding his sister Nanaly or something like that( oh and his fight with Suzaku, that’s why I’ve been quite surprised ) but she’s just ” forgotten”!Waouh! He was in such a hurry to find her and now a year has passed and he hasn’t found her yet! Where could she have disappeared for a year!
Code Geass R2 is fine for what it is; nothing more, nothing less. If I want to be intellectually challenged by the story of an anime, I’ll seek something out that meets that criteria.
Seriously, all this bickering back and forth is pathetic. To those of you who know how to spell and hold yourselves together in an argument: trying to explain simple things and the basics of making distinctions to an opposition who cannot construct basic, error-free sentences is a waste of time.
On another note, you have quite the taste in anime psgels; every show you’re blogging atm are on my personal watchlist as well.
@Denizen
You said that Nabari No Ou is going to be the Rental Magica of this season. I don’t think so. Nabari has an arc not like Rental which is episodic. I dropped Rental because of this and never looked back. Rental suffered in never making the viewer wanting to see the next episode and being repetitive.
Animes watching this season:
1. Code Geass R2
2. Soul Eater
3. Nabari No Ou
4. Kamen no Maid Guy
5. Persona Trinity Soul
You’re a complete fool if you don’t like Code Geass, I hated it at first but then I realized how wonderful it was. It’s even more screwed up then Death Note. I don’t want to know what kind of crap anime you like then, you’re a complete child.
