Some quick first impressions: Himawari!! Second Season, Master of Epic and Les Miserables – Shoujo Cosette

Himawari!! Second Season Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us Haha! It’s just as I hoped. The second season is going to be even better than the first one. While the first season focused on the development of the main characters, the second season introduces some actual antagonists, and thank god it didn’t lose its comical note. Heck, this episode was probably the funniest one of the entire anime. I mean, how many other anime can make something worthwhile out of someone who uses gum as a weapon? That surely was a great fight, and I’m glad to see that the quirks of the different character are getting funnier and funnier. I’m not sure how the rest of this anime will go, but if it’s going to be the same as this episode, I was right to give this anime a second chance. 🙂 Master of Epic Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us What a fun show! This definitely is my favourite show of the winter-season so far, and that with series like Deltora Quest and Himawari!!. Still, I can imagine that everyone else will rant about how they hate this anime, how it’s bad and all, but I don’t care! I love the way this show is directed. It’s basically a collection of clips, which don’t take themselves too seriously. In each of these, something incredibly strange happens. So, what if they’re cheesy, I loved it! This definitely is on my list of blogged shows. ^_^ *fanboys* Les Miserables – Shoujo Cosette Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us Ah, the infamous adaptation of Les Miserables. The question, of course, remains: is 52 episodes the right format for such a story? So far, this anime is heading into the right direction, with an excellent first episode. It really took its time to start the story, and tell how Cosette got separated from her mother. She’s quite touching, I like her as a character. Jean Valean, or the major and the boy he gave some bread (Aran, I think his name was) also are a couple of interesting characters to start this first episode with. There’s a very good chance that I’m going to watch this right through to the end of this. I’m not sure whether I’m going to blog this yet, considering the huge spring-season coming up. Ah well, I’ll decide after the second episode.]]>

  1. Hmm, Les Miserables was first series of winter season I actually liked (at least enough to watch second episode). Though 52 episodes feel bit too long.

  2. i am wondering when les miserables will come out. It’s one of the series that i am actually keen on blogging a summary for, even though I am not too sure.
Ya, for the other two, nah, not the right genre for me.

  3. Well Himawari is as nuts and as fun as ever, so that was welcome. Master of Epic left me a little baffled, though I did laugh a few times at some of the gags, Warage Black especially. But I dunno, it seemed a bit lacking. I may give it a few more eps to see whether it sticks to the short story format (like Magipoka I suppose).

  4. Oh man, I can’t wait for Les Miserables to be subbed. I think I will be blogging this show since I’m familiar with the storyline, but fifty two episodes? That sure is sure lengthy.

  5. I think 52 episode is a good lenght for “Les Miserables”, after all Gonzo did “Le comte de montechristo” in 26episodes and the pasting was really good and “les miserables” is more than twice as thick as montechristo. It reminds me of all these historic anime from the 80’s.
The serie seems to be headed in the good way I just noticed a few flaws: the story seems to revolve on Cosette while the power of the book is more in the fact that there is no real main character and what is really interesting is the characters interaction.
As for Aran it seems he is a new character, also it’s a bit disappointing that the story doesn’t seem to be chronological like the books who begins with the Jean VALJEAN journey.
Also some characters design aren’t really good especially Jean VALJEAN who looks more like a nice grandpa than the force of nature he should be.

  6. “Force of nature”?! Oh my gosh…..now I should realleh draw a picture of anime Valjean as a wind spirit or something….. 😉
Hearing ’bout the series on BasuGatsuBakuhatsu last January got me interested in Les Misérables, as well as one of my online friends being fond of the musical. ^__^;; The char designs are tolerable, to say the least (read: “to not sound like too much of a rabid fangirl of…one of the chars”).
