Okay, so in this episode we continue where the previous episode left off, at which Oz and Alice end up returning in the middle of one of the Pandora council meetings, of all things. It was definitely fun to see the chaos that erupted from such a weird scenario, and this also allowed the proper introduction of Oz to the rest of the people from Pandora when Jack took over his body. That does leave the question of what he actually is, and if that was the real Jack, then what the heck was he doing in Cheshire Cat’s dimension, of all things?
But my favourite part of this episode was that we finally get to see a really different Break, now that Vincent pretty much screwed up his plans of getting to know what really happened at the tragedy of Sabrie. His hate and annoyance for Vincent is strangely adorable. At the same time, we finally get a bit of insight into Vincent’s intentions. Or at least, some of them: he kidnapped Sharon to prevent information about him being behind the tragedy of Sabrie from leaking out, but something tells me that his ambitions are far bigger than that.
There’s also this revelation that the leader of the Baskervilles turns out to be still alive, which for some reason is something that onnly Jack knows. My guess is that that guy is hanging around somewhere in the Abyss as well, and Oz was targetted by them because they believed that his powers could end up bringing him back, though that failed.
Rating: * (Good)
I’ve just finished reading chapter 38 and OMFG was it good! XD
Now that’s out of the way, on to this episode. . .
Actually, this episode wasn’t a particular favorite of mine. Mainly because of Jack. If it weren’t for the information he revealed, I would have found his presence an irritant. To me, at this point, he’s a two dimensional character who lacks depth. Sometimes too much of a mystery can be a bad thing. He needs fleshing out. He’s too white, he needs to be made a shade more gray to give him some personality.
Thankfully, there’s Break, who I think is the perfect antithesis of Jack, just the right shade of gray to become one of the driving force that makes this such a good anime. It’s great that Xebec seems to be handling his character so well.
Overall, this episode is like the calm before the storm. If Xebec doesn’t messed up with the pacing and doesn’t deviate from the manga, and they haven’t so far, the next episodes will surely not disappoint.
I loved this episode – because I love over the top dramatics, and the Jack scene was one of the best I’ve seen this spring (overtaken only by Zwei’s inauguration ceremony and Mikhael proving he’s more powerfull than the gods).
I just – adore this series. I caught up to it yesterday, and wow. Even the art, it looks amazing (despite what I though back in the first episode). The character dynamics too – it has everything Ilike.
That theory of yours is actually pretty good XD
Even though I’ve read the manga, that theory of them using Oz to bring Glen back seems pretty solid atm.
I agree with Hellian when she says Jack’s just too white. It’d be awesome if he turned out to be evil or something :L
I actually like Jack’s character , since I’m not sure, if he is hiding something sinister or really wants to help Oz. The fact that he could take over his body is rather unsettling if the first scenario is true.
MANGA SPOILER TO BE EXPECTED, THE LATEST AND OF THIS EPISODE’S, THAT IS
…okay, my brain has just exploded after seeing chapter 39… I… kinda expected that coming but in THAT way! Oh, psgel, if you were following the manga, I bet you’ll want a second season more than ever…..
About this eppy, I kinda dissapointed on how they cut off some important things… in the manga, Alice and Gil called out Jack’s name instead of Oz whenthe guy collapsed. There goes Oz’s identity crisis issue..
Thank god Break kinda make up for it xD
Jack may seem too white or genuinely good (I do adore him now), but I love characters with a dark or vulnerable side. We may see this when we learn more about his relationship with Glen, as they’re best friends and enemies. Jack is a softie for letting Glen live, haha.
Nice speculation about Glen being in the Abyss and Oz being essential to rescue Glen; I can see that happening.
