Ah, and so it has ended. Like expected, this ending is much better than the ending of the first season. It did everything that was needed to close off the story well, with no signs of rushing. While the first season would have tried to add an extra twist, everything went just as expected, but I still ended up really liking it. Especially Takano has improved a lot, and finally she too has become an engaging character, and I loved her scenes with Okonogi, to see her being betrayed by everyone she took for granted.
The obvious question now remains: what the heck is going to happen in the third season? I mean, there are three arcs left, and from all we know, the story and everything around it has been resolved. The final moments of the episode showed how a grown-up Rika went to visit the young Takano. How did she end up there? I can also imagine that there still needs to be found a cure for the Hinamizawa-syndrome. After all, Rika still can’t leave the village without everyone going berserk within 48 hours. It would also be interesting if Nomura made a larger appearance, though on the other hand, I’d love to see more development on Keiichi, Mion and Rena.
Has the new airdate of the third season already been confirmed? My money is on that it’ll arrive somewhere in the Summer 2008-Season. In any case, it’s something to look forward to.

II. Inconsistency
An interesting read. It does raise a question, though: where did the story of the Queen-Carrier come from? The past few episodes have shown that Takano was also convinced that Rika was this queen-carrier, and yet there are many signs that point towards the fact that the disease gets activated when a person leaves the village: Keiichi’s visit to his family (or something similar) in the first arc, Shion’s school in the second and fifth arc, Satoko’s trip along with her parents, where she pushed them off the cliff, Rena’s actions in her new school, et cetera. This is just a thought that randomly came up, but what if someone else is the queen-carrier?
It’s very likely that the next season will be short, and focus on the few arcs that don’t necessarily conflict with the finale of Matsuribayashi-hen.
One would be Saikoroshi-hen, from the official fandisc, where Rika gets into an accident (dated August 1983, more than a month after the finale) and wakes up in a world where NOTHING wrong happens (except for the fact that Keiichi doesn’t move to Hinamizawa), which eventually drives her insane. The other would be the Daybreak chapter, where Rena swallows a magical magatama.
The ‘true’ ending, Miotsukushi-hen from the PS games can’t really be animated, as it essentially overwrites the ending of Matsuribayashi-hen (mostly the same, but with some changes), but some segments from it (like Mion and Keiichi’s ‘date’) could be sneaked in.
One final possibility is an original chapter that would tie Higurashi with its follow-up, Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

This episode was great!!!It made me cry a lot at the end ( about Takano, I prayed for her to be alright), just wanted to know, she’ll be alright so why this surprising ending, have you understood if Takano will live another life ( since she’s showed as a child)? But to live in another world, don’t the characters have to be dead?
I made a very similar comment in another form but i will make it again only shorter.
I personally did not like the second series, i guess i was too stuck in the original mystery thriller style of the first season (no i am not in it for the blood and tits)
it just seems like the second season becomes a shonen out of nowhere but i can’t really blame the second series… the last episode of the first series was in some respects even more of a problem to me due to its sudden shonen like change which unlike the second series really did come in from nowhere.
i have no problem with shonen but only if its clear that a show is going to be shonen from the start. I tried to enjoy the 2nd series for what it was but i can’t; it seems to simple and the thing about me personally is that i did not want all the questions the first season raised answered i wanted more questions and an ending which left it open to the viewer as any good thriller does. I guess i simply can’t take the change of style, call me closed minded if you want and it might be true but that’s just who i am.
