Dropping Shugo Chara

I think that the end of 2007 will be the best time for this, so yeah, I’m going to drop Shugo Chara so that I won’t take it along into 2008. I’ll still continue watching it, but I don’t feel like blogging it anymore, for a variety of reasons:

– First and foremost: the 51 episodes. I don’t mind covering long series, (heck I did blog Jigoku Shoujo and Les Miserables with no problems whatsoever), but this length is just way too long for a series like this.
– I also have to admit that Shugo Chara didn’t turn out as interesting as I hoped it would be. I expected deep characters, what I got was random shoujo-fluff.
– While it was nice enough to cover it during the not-so-spectacular Autumn-season, there are enough excellent series that will be starting with the winter-season, and you can expect a lot of series that I’m going to end up blogging, and I feel that blogging Shugo Chara will feel more and more like a chore, so I’m going to drop it while it still feels enjoyable.

Unfortunately, 2007 has been a horrible year for Mahou Shoujo. I hoped that Shugo Chara would change this, but unfortunately it didn’t. Nothing about the series has stood out so far, and I don’t feel like blogging about 30 more episodes of fluff to get to the good parts.

  1. WOW, Shugo Chara is slated for 51 episodes? I thought it was only going to be 24 episodes. Damn that’s going to be a long one. I only hope that fansubbers don’t drop the series.

  2. not a surprise,if there’s one show i thought you’d drop it’d be this one,especialy after i learned it’d be 51 episodes.
I also wonder if you’ve ever considered droping Suteki Tantei Labyrinth, despite the fact it seems weirdly interesting?

I’m also woried about the fansubbers, there’s only one team, formula, and even if they havn’t said anything about droping it, they’ve said they don’t know how much more “cool and spicy” they can handle without taking a break, they’re hoping that break would be subbing a winter show at the same time as shugo chara.

  3. Shugo Chara is just taking its time since it’s slated for 51 eps. Don’t write it off as fluff just yet. The premise and characterisation have great potential for depth and the development has been consistent so far. In fact I have earmarked it as the next CCS.

  4. Stripey: yeah, that’s why I won’t stop watching this series. It does have the potential, but at the moment I don’t feel that it’ll be worth it to blog this series every wek.

  5. I find this series interesting so far. Especailly after I read the manga. The manga is quite good and I feel that the anime won’t be any worse either.

  6. Shugo Chara anime is a fun watch, but then that’s it. Do give the manga a try if you have the time psgels, and see it for all it’s worth 🙂

  7. Shugo Chara! is really a wonderful anime, and for me, it’s quite inspirational and encouraging. The plot isn’t that deep because, it’s for all ages. If children watched it, and it has a deep plot, they wouldn’t understand it, would they? That’s why the plot is easier to understand.
And the surprises also makes it more enjoyable.

  8. Seriously I feel because I feel the anime is too draggy and I prefer Amu-chi’s personality in the manga. In the anime, there is just way to many unnecessary fillers. I read the manga and boy it’s just waaaay better than the anime.

  9. I’ve loved this anime, not so much the repetitive staff ( so it was soooo much better done than in all Precure) as the tense moments and the fluctuatations in their relationships, really a great series to watch!
