DanMachi 4 – 06/07 (Rabbit’s Foot/Cassandra Ilion)

I know, I know – everyone has been on the edge of their seats for this DanMachi review.  The wait is over!  We have a nice pair of episodes, looking at the ladies of Bell’s party.  Let’s go!

These two episodes feel like two sides of the same coin – one quite lighthearted and the other a bit more serious.  We’ll start with Lily’s lost date in “Rabbit’s Foot”.  I feel for her on this one too – some things just never go to plan.  No matter how brilliant a strategist Lili is becoming, she’s no match for the sheer quantity of Bell’s harem.  It also shows her devotion that she spent precious money to learn about his new nickname (side note: Hestia has been completely sidelined these last few, and I don’t mind in the least).  All’s well that ends well (ay oh, out all night…that’s Zeus’ grandson for ya).  Except for the dead body of course – bit of a mood killer (ha ha).

“Cassandra Ilion” begins what looks to be the main storyline for the season.  It’s pretty clear that the Moss Monster was meant to showcase the party’s new skills and establish some of the mechanics for the rest of the season.  One of those is our favorite, dreary dreamer Cassandra.  Who starts the episode – wait, hold up.  That was some pretty quality service, I must admit.  Normally, you can tell DanMachi’s service is well…heartfelt, but this episode went above and beyond the call of duty.  Have to give credit where its due.

Anyways, where was I?  Ah yes, seems like Ryu killed someone.  Thank you, Mr. Shield Guy for spelling out the obvious – she’s killed a great number of people, this really shouldn’t be that unbelievable.  Props for the small scene with Asfi cleaning up the mess from last season – nice little throwback there.  I’m not 100% sure why Bell really believes in Ryu so much, but whatever – I’m a big fan of hers, so of course it’s not her fault or something or other.  Good detective work too (I guess that’s what Cassandra’s into).  Oh yeah, and her dreams are pretty important I guess (but not 100% accurate, so a bit of wiggle room).  I liked her small moves to try and help Bell – one thing I’ve LOVED this season is showing how each party member is trying to a) help everyone out and b) keep everyone alive.  It’s the little things, like scarves that make the difference (I guess?).  Also, why do you have to do Haruhime like that?!  Straight up cold blooded – sacrificing the fox to save the rabbit.  Dreamy girl be savage.

In short – nice pair of episodes.  The writing isn’t complicated and these aren’t going to win any awards, but DanMachi is sticking to its guns and keeping the story flowing.  I think this season is on a good track, and I like diving deeper into the dungeon.  Now that one of my favorite characters is back, we’re just waiting on Ais (and honestly, probably that silly Minotaur at some point).  Until next time!
