Claymore – 16

Ah, it sees that my worries after the previous episode were all for naught. This episode was really good, and it finally tied the entire anime together. Lots of interesting things happened, and I didn’t even mind the way in which Galatea saved Claire at the last possible minute. Let’s start with Galatea. It seems that she didn’t just get her first place, just because she was very good at sensing Yoki. She also possesses the ability to manipulate small amounts of it, and from all 47 Claymores, her strength increases the most when she releases her Yoki. (It would be bad for her to awaken, wouldn’t it?) It makes you wonder how powerful number one and two are. It also seems that there are three awakened beings, even stronger than Priscilla. One of them is the girl we saw in this and the previous episode, Riful. One of them recruited Priscilla after she went berserk, and apparently she manipulated the guy into becoming active again. The episode wasn’t really clear whether he meant to pick a fight with Riful herself, or he means to fight against the organization, but all three of them have begun to gather more awakened allies. What I’m really curious about is how these three awakened beings will be defeated, and what Claire’s role will be in it. I really like how she finally showed in this episode that she isn’t perfect, and needs the help of others. The next episode should start out really interesting, when Claire needs to rescue Jeane. At this point, all signs point to the fact that Claire is indeed going to save her, but then again, this isn’t the first time that Claymore surprised me. ;)]]>

  1. was it mentioned that those 3 of the abyss were more powerful than priscilla?
i thought pricilla was also slated to become number 1, it would be more likely that priscilla is equal in power to the abyssal one’s or even more powerful, why else would the man of the north start a war against the other 3 of the abyss…

  2. >>It also seems that there are three awakened beings, even stronger than Priscilla.
Among awakened beings, Priscilla is the strongest. I thought Ruver said that to Clare before she was sent on her first mission hunting awakened beings under Miria.

  3. Really? Oh, that’s my mistake then. I assumed that for the guy in the north to be able to control someone like Priscilla, he had to be stronger than herself, or she’d just slaughter him mercilessly.

  4. Certainly Priscilla’s power would be right up there with the three Abyssal Ones (or Dwellers in the Deep, depending on whose translation you’re using.) And speaking of translations, the manga makes this part clearer. I don’t know if the dialog was simplified for the anime (rather common, the manga is very talky) or if it’s a translation glitch.
Originally Riful says that Priscilla’s power is nearly a match for the three Abyssal Ones. She was going on a rampage so the man of the north defeated her to end it, but afterwards he made her his woman instead of killing her, and that’s what triggered the arms race between the Abyssal Ones.

  5. I thought you would hate this one. 😀 (pgsels) Well, I thought it was pretty good as well. I’m wondering what’ll happen if Riful manages to awaken Galatea. Like you said, if her power goes up the most with her Yoki out of all Claymores, she might be able to outdo even Priscilla, so I would imagine that we’ll see her making an effort.

  6. (something I forgot to say in my last comment)
Come to think of it… why would the organization send a team headed by Number 9 to take on one of the three most powerful Awakened Beings in the world? Especially because we know the team included at least one person in the 30s. (“That’s all you can expect from a thirty-something after awakening”)

  7. First I thought that this was because they never knew that Riful was behind it, like she tricked them. But then again, it wouldn’t really make any sense, since Riful was after the stronger Claymores. I think it’s more of a message to Riful. The fact that they sent about the worst possible team of Claymore does say that the organization isn’t keen on giving up its top-Claymore that easily.

  8. I see. So, it’s more like they’re saying that they know what she’s up to, and they aren’t going to give her anything good unless they know they can win?

  9. Am I the only one who is extremely bugged by this… will Clare’s number in the organization EVER go up?

  10. Well, it seems that your number goes up when you defeat a Claymore of a higher number. Clare has no interest in fighting other Claymores, at the moment. It’s better for her to lie low, like Miria said. 😀 Still, I hope her number goes up a bit in the future as well.
