… what!?!

Okay, I’m baffled. The last scene of the episode showed such a brilliant plot twist! It only turned my opinion of this series even better. It seems that this series is really kicking off now. The rest of the episode also was a real beauty to watch.

Okay, so here’s the deal. Ibara catches a giant talking fish, who seems to have something stuck in its throat. It appears to be a glass shoe. Ringo tries it on, and suddenly, she can’t stop dancing and disappears over the ocean. When the others go after her, Souta falls in the water, and has another vision. The girl from the mirror appears again, though this time a bit older and she wears the same glass shoes as the one Ringo found. Her name seems to be Maren, and she has a hard time remembering Souta, which suggests that she’s been living quite some time after Souta met her. It seems that she finally found a way to go to Erde, though when she sees the boy she loved, he’s suddenly dancing with another girl. Obviously, her heart is broken by this. I was beginning to like this girl more and more with these scenes. Heh, if I only KNEW about the things which happened afterwards. ^^;;

Randagio, meanwhile, seems to have found Ringo, and Hansel goes after her, as he figures that Souta will probably come after her. He gets the shoe off of her, which shows some interesting reactions at Ringo’s side. Surprisingly, both sides aren’t hostile to each other at all. Only when Akazukin and the others arrive, the fight breaks out. Gretel also helps a bit, as she’s been watching her brother from a distance. The fight was very nice, as it actually involved a bit of tactics. Then, Hansel pushes Ringo aside, which triggers his powers again. Hansel is impressed by the way Souta acted that he retreats for the time being. He then returns to Cendrion, and gives her the shoe. And then everything becomes clear.

Cendrion is Maren! God dammit, I should have known! Maren’s tale originated around 1000 years ago. That’s about the same time as the time Cendrion has been sealed. That explains why Hansel, Gretel and Randagio know so much about the mirrors. Maren was one of the few who knew about them, and as Cendrion, she of course perfectly understood their uses and benefits. Remember also the end of the episode with the village, covered in ash? Not only does this work as great symbolism, but when the group left the village, Shirayuki and Ibara suddenly realized that Cendrion used the same kind of mirrors as the one they ran into. At that time, I only thought that that was meant to explain a bit about the mirrors, but it actually was the first hint we got about Cendrion’s real identity!

The next question is of course: who was that boy? If it is Souta’s father, then how did he end up 1000 years in the past? If it isn’t, then who exactly is it, and what happened to him? As from the next episode, I’m also going to stop looking at the next episode previews. Right now, they’re just getting way too spoilery, as next episode, Souta’s mother will arrive. It’s promising to become awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ghost Hunt – 04 – Whoa

Whoa… someone turned up the pacing and intensity for this episode. I sort of figured that the second case would be more serious than the first case, which served more as an introduction to the anime, but I never thought that the creators would already go this far for only the second arc. There are much less dialogues than in the first arc, which makes this episode really event-based. Overall, it was pretty good. ๐Ÿ™‚

Takigawa Hounshou and Matsuzaki Ayako also returned for this arc, the other ones didn’t. It’s interesting if you look at the roles of the two of them. Takigawa turns out to have quite some knowledge on supernatural phenomena, though Matsuzaki turned out quite useless so far. She tried another exorcism, but she failed yet again. It makes you wonder whether she actually has the ability to exorcise ghosts in the first place. Lin also has an interesting role as technician, though he hasn’t really had the chance to be fleshed out well. I’m guessing that’ll come later.

Mai also has a strange dream this time, again involving Naru-chan saying things to her. Does this have some special meaning? Are these dreams doing more than just reflecting Mai’s thoughts about Naru? Also, the culprit is definitely the doll, but how is she linked to Ayami. Is this ghost really strong enough to influence the way this girl is thinking? Perhaps it used Minnie in order to make contact with her. Then it started talking to her, and Ayami began to act to the things Minnie, and the ghost told her to do.

Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto – 09 – Sakamoto Ryouma

And so starts the second major arc of Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto. I’m still not sure what the troupe is going to do, as so far, it seems to be entirely focusing on Akizuki. This episode especially delivered a great deal of background from his side. The new major antagonist also has yet to be introduced as well, apart from Soutetsu, that is.

As expected, a few new faces and names appear in this episode. First of all, the army which we saw in the past few episodes seemed to be heading for Yokohama. Something tells me that it’s going to play a rather significant role in the next few episodes. How will this involve Akizuki? In any case, the commander of this army is Oomura Mazushirou. At least, I think he is. He’s in any case the strategic planner. An acquaintance of Katsu also came with this army. I think he oversees the delivery of supplies. I don’t think his name was mentioned. Either that, or I couldn’t pick it up.

We also get introduced to Sakamoto Ryouma’s wife, Oryo. Akizuki will probably meet her in the next episode. For now, she’s staying with the troupe. She currently is the only tie to the main story they’ve left. Akizuki, meanwhile, runs into an acquaintance of his own. When he was young, he trained at a dojo. The strongest member of this dojo was Okita. It’s interesting to see that Akizuki already had this huge determination he’s got now. I think Okita will be a temporary character, though. He didn’t look too healthy during this episode, coughing up blood and running off on his own despite this injury and all.

This episode also gave a very clear view of Akizuki’s time with Sakamoto, instead of the flashes we’ve been seeing during the previous episodes. It seems that Sakamoto was killed by an unknown group, different from the Shinsengumi. It’s also interesting to note that right before Akizuki met Sakamoto for the first time, he detected a spirit, or supernatural activity. When he started to go after it, he found Sakamoto instead.

It’s really been a great episode. Despite it mostly spent its time introducing the upcoming arc and its characters and providing background info on Akizuki, all these things succeeded each other in a quick pace, making this episode very enjoyable. So many things happened during this episode, and for once, none really felt out of place, compared to the previous episodes, which were sortof bothered by the brainwashing scenes.

Death Note – 09 – “This Damn Death Note is Totally Useless.”

As with episode 7, we have another episode solely dedicated to one event: L, walking up to Light and telling him that he’s L. It’s an interesting tactic, as this now makes sure that Light can’t just kill L, even if he knew his name, as L figured that Light figured that L would tell the police about his plans. Still, I’m not sure he did. We never see him, in any case.

In a way, L is acting very irresponsible. Right now, he’s acting purely on his instincts, instead of common knowledge. Okay, he’s right. But what if he were wrong? It’s almost like he’s got some kind of Shinigami on his side as well. Speaking of the devil (pun intended), what will the role of the Shinigami be in this story? We see quite a few of them in the OP, but so far, all they’ve been doing is sit around and playing cards. Will they perhaps become relevant in the later parts of this anime? I could imagine that one would tell L about the Death Note out of boredom.

I’m looking forward to the next episode, as then, the real cat-and-mouse game between Kira and L will begin. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of tricks they’ve got up their sleeve. I’ve also been wondering… how old is L exactly? He must be pretty old in order to be able to build up such a large reputation, but he looks like he’s about Lights age. Or has he been a genius detective ever since he was a child? Which reminds me… I’d love to see some scenes about Light and L when they were young. ๐Ÿ™‚

Saiunkoku Monogatari – 22 – Let the fun begin :)

The past few episodes have really been meant to introduce the Sa-Province-arc. Not many interesting things have happened, but instead of that, we got some major fleshing out of characters. It seems that things will really be starting off next episode, when Shuurei has to travel to the main capital of the Sa Province either on her own, or with Eigetsu or Kourin accompanying her. Then, she’ll finally have the chance to display her strength again. ๐Ÿ™‚

I loved how Sho Taishi keeps dropping hints to the people around him about the location of the ring of the Sa-clan. That smirk on his face really made it apparent that he’s really enjoying this. This episode, we also hear about two new characters: Sa Taiho’s daughter and granddaughter. The former has house arrest, while the latter is hiding somewhere. Shuurei imagining Seiran with a beard also was very funny, just as Ensei who got suspected of kidnapping Eigetsu. ^^

Kourin also played a major part in this episode, as she finally manages to confess the things she’s done, and finds out that Shuurei knew that she did it all along. I’m wondering how the relationship between the two of them will evolve. Right now, Kourin is desperate to make Shuurei forgive her, while Shuurei tries her best not to make Kourin worry too much.

Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club – 21 – Accepting Criticism

Ah, I finally managed to get my hands on the eighth episode. If I had to guess, then I’d say that this show had some kind of break from its usual schedule last week, which is why even on share no files appeared. In any case, this episode had a very clear focus: getting Misao back from the witches. Misao, on her turn, has been ordered to dispose of Sasami, as she’s posing some kind of thread. She’s getting help from the older witches, who have come to see her as their master, apparently. Meanwhile, Sasami’s father found out that she headed to the magical world, and went after her, along with Ryoumi.

The episode was pretty interesting. Especially Misao is getting interesting. She’s really struggling with herself now, as at certain points of the episode, she really began to look desperate. At the end of the episode, she also overhears some older witches talk about her in a negative way, and we already know that Misao is extremely to those kinds of things. ๐Ÿ™‚

The fight between the two Mahou Shoujo clubs also was very interesting to see. In the beginning, Sasami and the others obviously don’t stand a chance, as the other Mahou Shoujo club has much more experience, and furthermore, they’ve got similar powers, so both Anri, Tsukasa and Makoto get easily wiped out by their own kind of power. But once Sasami starts using her powers the tables are turned. I also loved how Anri managed to escape from everyone. It’s indeed a real tongue-twister to say “Basugasubakuhatsu” three times after each other as fast as possible (yeah… I tried ^^).

Asatte no Houkou – 09 – Tetsu, again

No Shoko-episode this time, surprisingly. Most of the episode actually follows Tetsu, when he hears that Karada has disappeared, and starts to search for her. His part in the episode was fairly light. He runs into Kotomi, the two of them start to pass out folders with Karada’s picture on it till the sun goes down. As Tetsu doesn’t have anywhere to sleep, Kotomi mentions a hotel which a few of her acquaintances are running, and suggests Tetsu to spend the night over there. And guess what? It appears to be the same hotel Karada found herself a job in. The next episode is promising to be very interesting. Remember that Tetsu still doesn’t know what happened to her. ^^

But the great moments of the episode were the ones in which Tetsu wasn’t involved. In contrast, Shoko’s and Hiro’s worries are everything BUT light, which made the scenes in which they appeared very emotional. At one point, Karada also gives Shoko a phone call, in order to make her stop worrying about them, and at the end of the episode, the two of them have a rather heavy conversation. It seems that Shoko also realized that Karada knew that Tetsu wasn’t her real brother. It’s interesting. Hiro seems to have convinced himself of the fact that he is the big brother. He’s always convinced himself that Karada never knew about her true parents. Shoko makes him see that in a rather emotional moment.

The past few episodes have also been focusing a lot on Karada. What about Shoko? She’s really been on the sidelines for the past few episodes. Does she also get into problems in the final episodes? Something does tell me that she still has a role to play in this wonderful anime. ๐Ÿ™‚

Soukou no Strain – 06 – Flashbacks and Parties

This was a very fun episode. The major part just consists out of the characters having fun with each other, after which Sara seems to finally understand the meaning of teamwork after a small mission where it seems that some Tumors have remained after Ralph Werec’s attack. Still, not all events made as much sense as I hoped them to be.

You’d wonder what happened to the Gambits who survived the attack. Such a minor cleanup mission would have been a perfect mission for them, no need to call out the highly important Reasoners for such a small job, isn’t it? I’m also wondering a bit where on earth the pigeons came from. Though the most annoying one is during the fight scene. During its climax, we see Sara’s hair wave along with the wind… What wind? There’s no air in outer space, or there must be some kind of very, very strange cooling system inside a strain.

Okay, enough about the bad things. The episode was a really good one, in my opinion. It really was meant in order to flesh out the different protagonists a bit, and I have to say, that this succeeded. This episode contained some of the funniest moments in the entire series, for example when Lotti got angry at Sara for once AGAIN ignoring her strategies, or when Melchisidec started to chase Jessie.

Carris also is slowly turning better. Okay, he’s still the annoying standard main love interest, but he’s actually slowly getting a personality. Also, when he asked Sara from who she learned to dance that well, I felt that for the first time, he actually did something good for this anime, as it clearly reminded Sara back to her times with Cedric. I also really liked Lavinia this time, when she was ambushed by the Tumors. Great scenes. ๐Ÿ™‚

Brave Story Review – 68/100

This movie aired about half a year ago. The promo-art looked interesting, so I was looking forward to seeing this. When I started playing this, I suddenly found out Gonzo was involved…. ouch.

Still, if you’re expecting the same crap that is Gin-Iro no Kami no Agito, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. This movie didn’t contain the flaws which plagued Gonzo’s previous attempt at a movie so much, and actually turned out into an enjoyable watch. This movie definitely was focused at a young audience, as it’s about a young boy who winds up in an adventure inside a fantasy world, in order to save his parents. The crappy teenage romance has luckily been left out.

Still, that doesn’t mean that this is something I’d recommend. It’s a decent movie, the story is nice, but it’s really nothing special. This movie really knows its audience, and therefore its cases and stories have been kept simple, and not too deep. There’s one clear theme: sacrificing others, and the major focus of this anime is aimed at this. The plot also contains a few rather clichรฉd elements (for example, a couple of characters end up joining our main characters journey for no good reason at all, and in order to save his parents, our main character has to collect the infamously overused five crystals. The last, of course, being the crystal of darkness).

Still, there’s one thing I can be really positive about: the graphics. As this is a movie, it’s gotten a big budget for the graphical department, and the results are clearly visible. The animation looks very good, the character design turned out very interesting, the CG looks gorgeous, and the background art really was beautiful. The only thing is that the fights could have been better, as they were rather standard.

I’d say that this is definitely not the best movie around, but if you’re bored and need a couple of hours to burn, you could want to try this one out.
