DanMachi 4 – 01 [Prelude (Night Before Departure)]

DanMachi is back! And that heralds the awakening of Amun from his anime slumber. Too long have I suffered through mediocre isekai or romcoms. Too long have I waited for our white haired hero to get back to what he does best – defeating Minotaur and building harems. But we wait no longer! Bell and co. are off on a new adventure, and I’ve waited all year to talk about it. Let’s go!

[Short] Shikimori-san 2-3

Amun’s Note: I’m going to be doing some “Short” reactions for various shows that aren’t getting seasonal coverage.  I’ll also give my verdict of “watch”, “skim”, or “skip”.  This will be sporadic but let me know if you want a particular series, and I’ll try to watch it if I haven’t already dropped it!  Hope you enjoy!

Shikimori-san came into the season with a surprising amount of hype for what looks like a generic rom-com….which after 2 episodes, it definitely is.  But by golly, there’s something about it that’s made me want to watch it first every time it’s come out.  Episode 2’s sports (and fame) experience were plenty fun (although I could have done without the sick bay scene).  Episode 3 is standard date-gone-wrong fair – although it ends at his house?!  Didn’t see that coming (or befriending his parents…5D chess move right there).

I think the charm from this show comes from its simplicity.  Are we going to break any new ground?  Nope.  But it’s plenty soothing, and for that I give it: “Watch

Ousama Ranking Review – 83/100

I really wanted Ousama Ranking to be the next Odd Taxi.  Both started out fairly similar – neither had very much pre-season hype (Odd Taxi premise wasn’t even released till the first episode, and Ousama Ranking’s first episode aired after the rest of the season started).  If it had turned out to be a hidden classic, I would be two for two and my anime ego would grow uncontrollably.  But Ousama Ranking turned out to be more blockbuster than cult classic, with quite a few flaws along the way.  Let’s take a look!

Ousama Ranking – SUPER WEEK FINAL [20-23]

After a month off from writing about Ousama Ranking, I’m here to wrap up my Spring show.  How did our small king end up?  Will this kickstart a franchise or be just a pleasant show in a crappy season?  Before we look at the series as a whole, let’s examine these final four episodes – two of which were fantastic…and two of which were not.

Ousama Ranking – 18/19 [Battle with Deities/Last Bastion]

Why isn’t Ousama Ranking – for all its engaging characters, immersive world, and outstanding animation – the anime I want to watch first every week?  On paper, this show should be perfect – what’s my problem?  This week I think I’ve figured it out.  Let’s take a look!

Ousama Ranking – 15/16/17

There’s not an easy way to put this – I just haven’t been as into anime lately.  Aside from Yaiba which finished out this week (excellently, I might add) and Ousama Ranking, I find myself frequently falling behind or skipping through episodes I otherwise would have enjoyed.  Maybe I’m just getting old -maybe this just isn’t the best season.  No matter my complaints, Ousama Ranking’s latest trio of episodes – which have taken me so long to write about – are certainly doing their part to keep the flame alive.
