Rinne no Lagrange – 15

This episode was really good, although I’m still clueless on what the rest of its plot will be about. I mean there is this obvious war and Ran’s brother who needs to be stopped, on top of those strange Vox powers, but beyond that I have no clue how the creators plan to spice things up. At first I thought that this would be Muginami and Ran who continue to fight over Madoka, but that was solved in this episode by something that a lot of other teenaged pilots should do: by talking things out. So what’s next?

What I mean by this is: Rinne no Lagrange still needs something to make it stand out in its second half. Aquarion had its bizarre fanservice, Mouretsu Pirates had its huge and addictive cast. With Rinne no Lagrange, the ingredients are all there to make an impact. It’s the type of series that puts a lot of emphasis on reaching out and prevention, rather than dumb action. Now, make use of this!

One thing that already changed a lot at this point is the powers of the Vox. I’m not sure what happened at the end of the first season when Midori produced that giant flower, but Madoka can now hear what’s in the minds of the other Vox powers, and that’s likely to only be the beginning.
Rating: Excellent

  1. In a shitty Summer season, Rinne is clearly the ringleader.

I thoroughly enjoyed Madoka’s solution to Lan and Muginami’s political differences of opinion, and I liked Lan’s clumsy response even more.

    More maru, please.

    1. I assume you mean the ‘two kisses and a headbutt’ solution? I think a whole pile of people had their yuri goggles blown by that scene 🙂

      1. Actually by the end of that episode I actually remembered I once had a pair of yuri goggles.

        Ah well, good episode.

      You’re not watching SAO?

Rinne’s still pretty good although I would like a little bit more production value. And a better ED. I don’t mind childish songs but this one is around the same level of Ranka Lee’s advertisement jingle from Macross Frontier. Not something I’d want to listen to more than once. The art looks like a rehash of last season’s ED too. I wonder if this project is having budget issues….?

  2. I like this series but I have a hard time to believe that a problem of this scale (all their people are threatened of death) involving two civilizations at war and two princesses (they’re teens but princesses first, thus political tools) could actually just get solved by the “let’s just be friends” thing. I found the outcome easy, naive and immature. And that was a bit a hard to swallow. But maybe that’s just me.

    1. I don’t think the problem is anywhere near solved. Right now, it looks like both Lan and Muginami could be considered traitors to their respective sides. And while it looks like Muginami’s bro seems willing to overlook it for now, Lan’s bro is still kind of an unknown. He seems willing to get Lan hurt if it means finding a way to save their civilization. Well, I’m willing to think that he’s just been cornered into that position because the stakes are so high. No one has yet come up with a way to use the Rinne to prevent the catastrophe yet. It’s not even certain if it’s possible.
