Tsuritama – 02

As a fun and whimsical series, Tsuritama stands at the top of this season for me. This show has something more than the other shows about teenagers doing stuff, and it’s not just originality. It’s also the characters who feel much more genuine than usual. They play off each other quite well and most
importantly: despite the way they act, they’re not annoying.

the lead character is an interesting variation to your typical loser here. The thing is that the things that go on in his head and what he actually says are completely different. He’s actually really shy, but most of the time it doesn’t seem that way due to how detailed his inner monologues are. But then someone comments on how shy the guy is, and you indeed start thinking of how he comes across when you strip away all of the inner monologues. And yeah, that makes him stand out as very weird, especially since he keeps making silly faces for no apparent reason.

Oh, and I also love the guy with the goose. He’s just so… surreal.

Out of all the shows this season, this one probably has me the most curious about what the heck it’ll be about. It’s hyping up its own story so much with at the end of every episode foreshadowing, and yet this is a show about fishing. How on earth are they going to fill 11 episodes with that? They must have some brilliant idea about this, and I can’t wait to find out what it is.

  1. I felt like the interactions with the family figures felt a lot more authentic here than in most shows. I like it.

  2. i love the water animation on the bottom right on your picture. it remind me of Dennō Coil. water and sky look so pretty.

the soundtrack definitely make the show more whimsical and fun.

  3. I precomile all of my posts in microsoft’s notepad. This is the result of a really weird bug in that program. It’s fixed now.

  4. Yeah I agree with you, it’s really the best of this season =w=

The surreal art really stands out, it reminds me of how Penguindrum gave its first impressions.

The animation of the sea is just simply beautiful. I’ve never seen any sea drawn like that in an anime.

And the soundtrack. It’s really the best, it feels like I’m playing an atelier series game (which is famous for their unique soundtracks).

  5. After Level E, I didn’t think there’d be another anime about an “alien” that would grab me like this. I found myself laughing out loud a lot more than I usually would with an anime, especially at the turban guy with a duck. This series is so strange, and yet charming at the same time. I can’t wait to see what comes of it!

  6. Episode 2 is keeping up the good work, I loved the character music for the guy with the duck (no seriously, i have laugh each time I see him), and ahh just so beautiful to look at.

And yes the contrast to the internal monologue vs, the ‘why isn’t the dude speaking’ is great.

I also love how he looks everything up on his phone!

There are hints of troubles with the prince’s family, and the grandmother’s coughing (major warning signal here) which she wants haru to not tell yuki, so beneath the fantastical air, there are some hints of tragedy.

Will the enoshima dance be the next big anime dance??

yes and main characters is loser type, but I love how he thinks things through and tries to right the things he did wrong.

    I loved it!! <3 <3 <3

  7. The art from the previews intrigued me, but it wasn’t on my list of must-watch anime series this season. After these first two episodes, however, I’m hooked. I don’t really know quite what is going on, but I want to follow this to the end! Probably the main hook for me is Yuki. Yuki isn’t just “shy”. He appears to have social anxiety. I think so only because I have it, and all his internal thoughts and his behavior around other people in tense situations mirror mine. So, it’s refreshing to see an anime character that I can definitely relate to. It makes me want to root for him even more, understanding what he must feel!
