Okay, I can see why people said that you shouldn’t pay attention to the plotholes in this series. If you’re trying to lure a terrorist bomber out of her shell, then don’t do it in a theme park full of innocent people who can get hurt! In the first half, you could really see that this came from the same direcor as Shuffle (I have no idea why I fully watched that show). Heck, that fanservice scene was directly copied and pasted here. Here though, it was more than just a boring waste of time, because an episode like this was really needed to take a step back. The characters were nicely fleshed out, while at the same time the plot didn’t come at a stand still because enough went on with Uryuu Nenene. And holy crap that ending! The gore in particular was disturbing, but in this episode we got confirmed what was hinted at in the first episode: that Yuno has killed before. Heck… since there is only one way in which “Happy End” could have been interpreted: if they started to live together, there is no way in whichi that room would have been unconcealed. She actually tried to kill her new boyfriend. It’s good suspense and makes great use of its insane cast of characters. I also do wonder a bit about Deus ex Machina’s intentions regarding Yukiteru. I mean, from the looks of it he grabbed the most psychopatic characters he could find, and handed them the future diaries. So where does Yukiteru come in? I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually becomes some deranged mass murderer or something. Rating: * (Good)]]>
You’re assuming that fourth gives a shit about innocent people, the only proof of that are his own words. Second definitely wouldn’t care, and first is to young to question fourth.
And no, second cannot kill first until only the two of them are left. Second has the stalker diary, which is completely useless should first die before all other diary holders have been eliminated.
psgels: the fanservice scene is in the original material, it’s not the director’s fault.
Yup, the fanservice is direct from manga. Logic holes keep coming, don’t overthink them.
If anything the anime should be better that way b/c it’s working in material from the side-story volumes, which helped patch up some of the original’s bigger plot holes.
This is certainly going be hard to blog for you. The biggest problem is how many crazy-ass twists happen in the manga, and how many people here have read the manga (including me). A word of advice, just don’t try to predict ahead. I mean thinking ahead is fine, just because the things that happen will be that much more insane, but the characters as you see now are much deeper than the first 3 episode show. I think the only safe character assumptions you should make are…
1. Yukiteru right now is a wimp.
2. Yuno is a crazy stalker that will do ANYTHING to keep her and Yukki together.
The reason this show is so fun is because of all the crazy shit that happens that you would never suspect.
After the events of the second episode I was worried that the show wouldn’t let Yuno go full Yandere after that scary image at the end of the first episode. It seemed to take a step back and let her appear normal. Now all is right with the world!
I’m mighty tempted to sneak a peek into the manga to spoil myself but I shall hold firm and distract myself with anything else! While I do read the manga right after I watch the show, but only up to the last scene of the anime. Since the anime actually follows the manga quite reasonably, it’s safe to use it as a baseline. Moreover, a couple of spots are explained better in the manga which adds to the viewing experience. (such as Yuno’s ambiguous reaction to kissing Yukki in episode two, and the manga’s inner monologue clarifies that)
Muhahahahaha!
You haven’t seen ANYTHING yet.
Even if i disliked psgels blog (which i don’t) i would still come here just to see his reaction when this series ends. He will probably give 85% of the episodes * ** or *** , but i bet he gives the overall series a 70 ish rating.
Why wait for psgels? Get Deus to give you a stalker diary. 😀 (Sorry, couldn’t resist. xD)
Frankly, psgels is charming. I wouldn’t mind getting a psgels stalker diary (to read the blog of coz). \n_n/
Another great episode! I cant wait for the next!
…
Minene!!! T_T
“She actually tried to kill her new boyfriend.”
Huh? When did that happen?
Her “Happy End” has simply “Yuno and Yukki become one” which could mean marriage, or it could mean sex (it’s a bit ambiguous).
How did that lead to the conclusion that Yuno tried to kill Yukki?
For all people commenting on the manga, please don’t. Psgels has obviously never read it, he’s drawing conclusions solely based on the anime, the anime does have differences to the manga, that scene did look like the one from Shuffle (yeah, it was pretty much cocaine for the eyes), and as for how he interpreted the ending…”happy ending” for Yuno could mean a lot of things.
As to answer your question about Yukiteru, well, the kid’s funny in the head in his own right, for one thing, he looks at the world as an absolute spectator through his phone diary. Then there’s the fact that the boy himself made his presence known before Deus, by making Deus(God) into his very own imaginary friend.
The ending was fantastically creepy!
It sent shivers down my spine honest. I love how this show is getting a reaction out of me, despite it being flawed.
Before Yuki could still stick by Yuno and win, but now that he’s found out how messed up she is, there’s no way this can happen.
I’m intrigued by that dream that Yuki had and wonder if that refers to the altered reality.
Still interested to see where this is going, although everyone who has read the manga seems to be forewarning a terribly plotted ending.
I love how Yuno is so capable of acting like a perfectly normal schoolgirl, but is indeed a sociopath and murderer (or so the show makes it appear–I guess we can’t be entirely sure of anything at the moment).
“She actually tried to kill her new boyfriend.”
I didn’t see the scene like that–she may simply have followed Yuki because she doesn’t want to lose him. And technically we don’t know if those corpses were her doing or not.
I also think “Happy End” can have multiple meanings. It was used in episode two, and simply referred to her and Yuki getting out of the situation alive. In this case, it may have simply referred to them spending time together at her house. (Not that I’d put it past her to have deeper/darker implications than this–but I feel its meaning is still up in the air.)
The new diary owner is rather interesting. He keeps his face hidden, making him a rather intelligent participant in this game. Even in the first episode, I noticed there was a man with a big head covering, so that must be him. And rather than outright killing Ninth, he’s using her to find out about the other diary owners she encountered. Curious to see how long this “partnership” will last.
His mp3 player was shown a few times, which makes me wonder if he has a music diary, or something?
I’m getting some Higurashi vibes from the ending and Yuno : )
I think my biggest problem is that when I find an anime I think is REALLY interesting, I immediately scout for the manga. I did it with Bokurano, and I did it with Mirai Nikki. I kind of regret it, I would have loved to watch the anime without knowing what will happen/who the other diary owners are, but… Oh well.
For once I didn’t mind the fanservice. Can you believe it? >_> I guess it’s just because it works so well with Yuno as a character.
Now. Balloon head (going to call him that for now) is one CREEPY bastard. =/ I can’t wait for next week~! /o/
@gottis
Yeah, I think the fanservice bit did serve a purpose.
Psycho yuno was deliberately playing up to get yukki’s attention.
Where as most fan service would play it like it was a real accident.
Yuno is creepier than the balloon dude though. wonder what he listens to, hypnosis tapes?
I was tempted into the manga for chihayafuru because I wanted more.. but regretted it, and had to pull back. Definitely wont try the manga for this one.
@Kero, I recommend the manga for reasons I already listed above.
Helps fill in the blank or adds a couple of points for clarification.
But the trick is to stop where the latest episode stops. -_-
@Oroboros
You know stopping at will is baseline impossible if you enjoy this series as much as most of us do.
@oroboros
What @manlyflower said.
If I was to start on the manga I’d definitely read until the end… which is what I did with Chihayafuru, I regret that because I spoilt myself.
and I think Mirai Nikki would be even worse in that respects as the spoilers would be more major. And knowing in advance would definitely spoil the “OMG CREEPY!” feeling I get for Mirai Nikki.
although the changes made to chihayafuru were interesting, the director def makes taichi easier to sympathise with, just with all the little changes he makes to how things happen.
Lol, fortunately I already have a bunch of manga I’m reading, so I wouldn’t have time to pick up Mirai Nikki as well. And I’m enjoying the anticipation of waiting excitedly for the next episode each week. :>
Yes, yes: reading the manga is an all-or-nothing thing. I think a lot of us were like “I’ll just check this out” and then didn’t move until a few hours later when we’d read the whole thing.
So don’t start unless you’re prepared to go all the way.
You can safely read the first volume at this point (it’s all been shown in the anime) but if you are lucky enough to not know the manga at this point, I’d highly recommend waiting until the end of the anime to read it.
@manlyflower
@kero
I enjoy the show, no question, and enough to rank it ahead of every other show this season. Enough to avoid from reading the manga past where it ends. I suspect my potential enjoyment of the show’s turns/twists will be damaged by reading ahead, so no thanks. 🙂
So Psgels, if you got a future diary would that mean you could tell if a show was worth watching before you had to sit through it?
