Ao no Exorcist – 14

Another Gasshuku. While I’d like to complain about repetition, this episode once again was really enjoyable. And heck, for the first time it actually stressed teamwork. The characters came up with a pretty good plan that utilized a lot of their potential powers as well, in a much different way compared to the previous Gasshuku.

Still, while in the previous Gassuku Rin and Shiemi got to show off, this time it was the turn for Konekomaru and Ryuuji to shine. Especially Ryuuji with the way he kept mumbling his incantations and his plans at the same time was pretty interesting. Beyond that there also was a lot of really good interaction between the characters once again, which made for an all around enjoyable episode.

What’s also interesting is how there were two people who remained alone. This episode showed either Izumo or that mysterious blond guy who hardly talks in trouble. If I had to guess, then it’d be Izumo, because of how easily those moths tore up Shiemi’s summoning paper. I think that this time, Shiemi also was completely useless, or useless in terms of combat. The creators know that she isn’t strong, but they kept finding interesting way for her to be useful in order to not have her fall into the “damsel in distress”-role. This time though, she pretty much was bait: first to attract some of the protagonists together, and second to lure that lantern across the river.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

  1. I fail to see what you find enjoyable about this series.I mean it’s so bad and full of crap but out of all the decent reviewers I follow and respect, you happen to be the only one willing to still give this show a chance, trusting it to deliver on god knows what flimsy spec of potential you see in it.

Also every review you keep mentioning how enjoyable this show is but forgive me for saying this but your yardstick for measuring entertainment is fu****g distorted!Shit like Code Geass which is so ridiculous and bombastic(which you also completely lamblasted in your dare I say a very…very prejudiced review)is what I’d call entertaining.Shit like this is just plain boring, annoying and a big pile of fail which is totally not worth blogging.Just my opinion though so don’t get your panties in a knot if you happen to like this show….

  2. @Arthur: You should take your own advice: don’t get your panties in a knot if you happen to not like this show.

Ao no Exorcist so far, is a well executed, albeit somewhat cliched, Shounen anime. It has good pacing and the characters are interesting enough. If you like Shounen, there is a high chance you will like this. On the other hand, if you don’t like shounen, this might not be the series that will change your mind.

  3. @Arthur: forgive me but I fail to trust your word on “just my opinion” disclaimer what with the vague “shit” and “crap” you keep on using to describe what you feel. Frankly, it sounds like you’re just bashing.

Your first paragraph only details how “bad and full of crap” it is and then you try to put this show down by saying that out of the bloggers YOU think are decent, psgel is the only one giving the anime a good review.

Then – for reasons only you yourself know – you fit in Code Geass, which YOU also find entertaining but psgel doesn’t, so you felt like saying then that psgel’s taste must suck hard. Oh and you mention again how the anime is just “plain boring, annoying and a big pile of fail.”

From what I’m following, what you think must be REALLY good. I’d be sure to take note of your “opinion” next time you put in less generic negative words.

Bottom line is, bro, I think you’re just mad.

  4. Ok, I dont see this show as a wonderfull show, but it have a very well executed elements and by far, is a show to be blogged. I enyoiyed so far this show, peg go for it, this show is very good.

  5. Mephisto isn’t exactly being subtle about his deception – heck, we had a good few minutes with Amaimon and him showing how they were planning something. Maybe they’ll just stare at Shura’s rack for the rest of the episode – that’s on way to stop em!

  6. Don’t let what Arthur said get to you, psgels. I have a bunch of “decent reviewers I follow and respect” too (including you ofc) and most of them think highly of AnE. Those who don’t mostly don’t watch shounen to begin with. ^_^

Oh and I hope they got someone good to do the next episode. It deserves that.

  7. About Mephisto: I’m having a strong Snape vibe from him. On one hand what we the viewers see from him doesn’t put him in a good light. On the other hand, the most powerful and influential exorcist in the universe, Father Fujimoto believed in him and left Rin to his care. This is parallel to how Dumbledore believed in Snape no matter what and entrusted him to protect Harry.

Note that those above are just my depictions from what we had so far, so no spoilers. ^_^

Apperantely you don’t follow many good anime bloggers (excluding Psgels) becasue almost all the well known anime blogs (i.e Random Curiosity) i’m following are enjoying the show for what a it is .. a very well made shonen show … you just aren’t making any sense.

As for the episdoe .. it seems the show really shines in both action and character departments when the characters are forced to do team-work (like the ghoul demon incident) .. it really brings the best elements of the show to the forefront … as for Maph .. well .. i’m on the fence .. he could be plotting something to overthrow his father and take his place using the excorsists (didn’t buy any of his peace for humans crap) .. or .. he is working for his father … i’m also wondering who out of all the characters know he is actually a demon and big brother of Rin (aside from Shura)!!?
