Letter Bee – 28

I’m not sure whether this was a filler or an original chapter from the manga: it could be either one, because it was a random story and yet it had some small relevance: it related back to Lag’s desire to see Gauche again, and his difficulties in expressing his thoughts. Either way, it was in no way a wasted episode.

This episode was a tad predictable, but its charms more than made up for it. I’m not sure what exactly it was that made this episode stand apart from similar stories. Perhaps it was how easily that old maid’s plans, which could have dragged on forever, were thwarted, or how the childhood friend of that rich woman actually sold the treasure that she received when they last met, and always wanted to make up for it somehow.

Usually, bonds between two characters that are just based on one event feel shallow, however this time I could really buy it. It was that hairpin who saved that girl from her debts, and I can see how it made an impact on both of them. That girl, I find it very interesting that she said goodbye to her siblings when they were old enough to take care of themselves. It actually shows a lot about the world they’re in, and how Lag and the other bees aren’t the only children who are working, away from their parents. It’s interesting how in the Letter Bee world, it’s normal for children to develop themselves very early.

Also, the people in the world of Letter Bee have really weird watermarks. 😛
Rating: ** (Excellent)

  1. This one and the next episode looks to be from the manga. hopefully this means there actually wont be any filler, since the way they’re going they’ve got enough manga to do another 25 episodes

  2. I wouldn’t be that optimistic. I expected something like that too last season, and there were indeed enough manga episodes to animate too, but yet they made up some fillers.
They wanted to end first season with the cliffhanger regarding Gauche, so they had to make up fillers.
Now i expect they’d want to cover the Gauche arc, so it all depends wether they have enough manga arc episodes to cover up an entire season.

  3. This is a manga chapter 🙂
I am also hopingfor the “no fillers” opttion, though that will be difficult to happen…

  4. What the hell is wrong with the fillers? Aside from that worthless cart-race episode, they’ve been universally touching and sweet. This makes a superb episodic series given its premise. Why rush?

  5. hoiut: well, the problem isn’t with the fillers being bad, it’s with the story manga being really good. This show does its mystery so well that I’m aching to see it develop.

  6. A filler more and the keypoint chapters will be delayed one week, unless being directly sent to an eventual next series…

    Achtung! mini spoiler
Without any filler, we’d be dealing with Niche’s origins by now. I really long to watch it as that arc is awesome, but at the current pace we’ll watch it by the end of this season.

  7. Mini spoiler in reply to Solaris-

Actually, there’s only one more manga chapter before we deal with that. If they keep the pace they’ve been going and don’t get any fillers, they’ll be able to close the series off at 24 episodes whilst finishing the whole story

  8. Ugh, you can’t edit these things. I meant to say that there’s two chapters left before that arc. They’re at chapter 19 now, and they could close off at chapter 31 or 37

  9. Well maybe the maths isn’t that right, but we’re at #19 now and Niche’s arc starts at #23, so it should be in one month by now. That’s about one third serie, given they wouldn’t add any more fillers. So, I’d expect it in the second half anyway.
PS: By the way next “manga-filler” will be awesome, the lighthouse episode!
