My Hero Academia S4 – 3 [Boy Meets…]

What?!  “I thought MHA was delayed this week”, you say.  Well fear not!  We have last week’s MHA review to hold you over (never mind that I was going to do a double header and rugby messed up my plan).

You could be forgiven for skipping this episode – this is an establishment of premise episode: showcasing Sir Nighteye’s Quirk and Mirio’s place in all this.  There’s an attempt to show the difficulty of getting work-studies, which falls a bit flat (why is a teacher just hanging out with the students?  That would 100% not happen).

Midoriya basically fails his task, but demonstrates his love for All-Might’s….merch, which carries him through, I guess?  I do really enjoy seeing Midoriya’s All-Might superfan come out, and his working to understand Sir’s Quirk on the fly was well done.  It was a decent fight, but the stakes were so low and the outcome predetermined, so it lacked any real bite.

I tend to think we’ll be getting the story moving along next week, so this week felt a bit of a chore – yes, we need to establish all this setup to get to the real juicy bits.  It’s like eating the salad of this season – let’s get to the steak!  Especially since we had to wait an extra week for it!
