Apparently last week had some sort of important sport event that caused quite a few series to go into hiatus, among which Full Metal Alchemist. Now that it’s back we can continue with the hunt for the Humonculi, and quite a surprising aftermath to the previous episode. Because as it turns out, Havoc lost his ability to walk. I’m not sure whether this is permanent or temporary (you never know that in anime…), but nevertheless that was a heavy sacrifice that Roy had to pay in order to be able to kill off Lust. On top of that, Ed and Al also realized (with Barry’s original body being the way it was), that Al’s real body might be rotting away right now, and that he might not even be able to go back to it. At the same time, we also learn that Ed seems to be sleeping an awful lot. Something tells me that this is also going to become important later on. The rest of this episode focused on a plan to lure out the Humonculi. Scar showed up again, in the city that Ed, Al and Roy happened to be in, and so they come up with the idea to use Scar, in order to lure out the Humonculi who seem to get rid of scar. They suspect this because of the way the Homunculi have been fighting scar, and also that the Fuhrer has a good chance of being a Humonculus, if I understood correctly. Also, for some reason the facial distortions in this episode were a lot more out of control than usual. Especially with Ed on his fixing spree, and afterwards when he tried to talk to Roy Mustang. The scenes themselves were quite hilarious, but they didn’t mesh too well with Scar’s sudden appearance. I liked it more when the comedy was more subtle. That’s really the moment when you don’t know when to laugh or not. I wonder how Winry’s going to react when she finds out that Ed and Al were chasing the one who killed her parents for revenge. Something tells me that she’s going to find out sooner or later, and I don’t think that she really would have taken revenge if she was in their shoes. Still, at the moment her part in this series has been rather pointless so far, aside for the emotional support for Ed and Al. I do hope that she’s going to end up doing something useful, rather than hog lots of screentime like she did in the first anime series. And as usual: when discussing this episode, please refrain from mentioning events that happen after this point in the manga. Rating: * (Good)]]>
first!
wah! this is exciting! totally different from the last FMA anime.. errmm, why is it different again? somebody?
“They suspect this because of the way the Homunculi have been fighting scar, and also the Fuhrerhas a good chance of being a Humonculus, if I understood correctly.”
Their plot is centered around the fact that the Homunculi have told both of them in separate occasions that they need them as important sacrifices. Ed and Al conclude it probably has something to do with people who have seen the gate and came back alive (which implies Izumi might have an important role soon as well). They feel since fighting Scar puts them in a very precarious situation, the Homunculi will have no choice but to show up and save them and they would use this opportunity to (capture? talk to?) them. They seem to right because Wrath and Gluttony show up for Scar but were stopped by the Ninja Co.
In the scene where Al thinks that his body is decaying, Edward theorized that Ed and Al’s body were some how linked when they tried to resurrect their mother’s soul. This would explain why Ed sleeps a lot – his body is making up for Al’s sleep.
I don’t think any of the main characters suspect that the Fuhrer is a Homunculus, only possibly linked to them.
@Sal
Short explanation- The brotherhood series is the adaptation of the manga FMA, while the first series story is mainly the creation of the Bones that uses the characters of the manga FMA.
The first series initially adapted the manga, but after about 25 episodes, the anime creators decided to create their own story line that was not influenced by the manga in any way. For this reason after the death of Hues and Greed the two series are not similar in any way.
for once i must retract my previous defense of the animators for omitting the fight that they omitted (no spoilers, relax lol) around the time lust got killed. the way this ep ended the ling faction of the xing characters hasn’t really done much (since the animators CUT the most kick@ss thing they’d done to that point) but help ross escape and eat ed into debt (haha). may chang hasn’t really done much either.
on an aside though, how freakin’ bad@ss is WRATH/Bradley? could a case be made that he is technically the 2nd strongest homunculus after YOU-KNOW-WHO? even in OLD AGE too!! i mean of the remaining six, two are really stupid so he’d outsmart and outfight them, and of the remaining three (lust, greed, envy) his eye’s predictions and his fighting ability would probably trump them as well, though for the LIFE of me i’ll never understand why greed didn’t go FULL shield on him and negate his swordsmanship, always thought that wasn’t well executed
Bobby:
the reason greed didnt go full sheild on him is because wrath didnt give him a chance to. Greed could not put on armor and regenerate at the same time so wrath kept slicing off his limbs and stabbing vitals so that all greed could do was regenerate. Basically Wrath was smart enough to kick his ass before he got the chance to use his power
Psgels, the event was IAAF World Championships. Basically an all-tracks world championship outside of Olympics.
There thoughts about the Furher wasn’t that he was one, but that he could be in league with them which is futher empasized with the comments about the Homunclus already infiltrated the higher ups of the Military. i’m a little surprised about how they ended the Episode although it did make me luagh knowing that there are a good number of people who don’t read the manga or watch the end ‘next time’ section who are wondering ‘OMG what happened to the Ninja girl?’
As for the expressions and the humour, its like that in the manga too, although there is a bit more about Ed’s personal tastes in the Manga humour than the Anime [shown when he transmutes the baby carriage fom harmless looking to a twisted look] I don’t mind the humour like that and I think its to lighten the mood for the upcoming fight and the drama that entails between some of the main characters
I love the little details in this show, like Roy Mustang in the hospital you can see that he hasn’t shaved and has some stubble showing.
