Short Synopsis: Well… just watch the episode…
Episode Rating: 8,5/10 (Awesome)
Zomg…. what the heck happened here?! I was already expecting a lot of great stuff from the second season, but that Kazuki Akane would actually go this far… Oh my god, I still can’t believe the potential of it all. To those who were all whining about the predictability of the end of the first season, which stuffed Senkawa back in Birdy’s body. Well, let’s just say that IT WAS ALL DONE WITH A REASON!
Because of that, Senkawa has now been inside Birdy’s body for a bit too long, and the two of them have begun to merge with each other, effectively causing Senkaway’s consciousness to overwrite Birdy’s! This leads to a hilarious episode in which Senkawa has to take over Shion’s tasks, but he also lost his own real body, meaning that he’s not going to be able to show himself in front of his friends, and Birdy’s going to disappear as well.
Normally, this sort of issue will probably solve itself within the next episode or so with some quick Deus ex Machina, but this is KAZUKI AKANE we’re talking about! We’re only at the fifth episode at this point. Who knows what he’s going to pull in the rest of this series!? Something also tells me that we should be fearing for the girl in the wheelchair. She’s getting way too much along with Natoru. I just feel that something’s going to happen to her. After all, she’s the perfect bait for hostages.
And also, that was one awesomely animated fight scene!
I loved this episode even more than the last few. Seriously, this series is already one of the best of 2009, the action is awesome and the rest is great.
Plus, whilst I like Nataru, it’s nice to see Birdy get the stage again, and Tsutomu brings back some interesting slice-of-life side with a weird gender-bender issue.
Overall, this show has even more potential than before. I am really looking forward to this show now.
Hey, I’ve been reading your reviews of Birdy episodes for a while now and just wanted to let you know that I really like your blog. I’m a huge Kazuki Akane fan too and not many people are blogging this series, so it’s nice to see it (and him) getting some attention here.
I also had an anime recommendation for you: have you ever heard of Heat Guy J? It’s basically Akane’s brainchild — he was the original creator of the concept, he directed it, he wrote some of the screenplays and storyboards, etc — and it shares a “feel” with Birdy in a lot of ways, if that makes any sense. A lot of the seiyuu are the same, too: Natoru and Birdy’s seiyuu play two of the leads, with the seiyuu for Natoru’s father playing the third. And Nobuteru Yuuki, Escaflowne’s character designer, designed the characters. It’s basically the quintessential Akane show but is unfortunately not too well-known, but I thought you might want to give it a look since you’ve liked his other work. ^_^
Heat Guy J sounds interesting, maybe i’ll check that out.
Birdy is just getting better and better.
This was a great episode and the fighting scene was really well animated and planned, it was so great.
Tsutomu gets little taste of Birdy’s very bothersome secret identety ^_^ (I couldn’t help but laugh) and understands Birdy better now, as to how bothersome it is and he will most likely get to know even more about Birdy as will we.
I’m waiting how great this can develope. I like how all the characters act in this show, they all have something to do and say.
Uuuuugh, I wanna watch this episode, but the subber I watch it through is two episodes behind right now. Looks so good already!
you dont know Kazuki Akane till you’ve seen Heat Guy J. I suggest you watch it if your a fan boy of Akane.
