Sorry for the delay, I was a bit too busy yesterday for the huge amount of shows that came out. But this episode was SO worth it. I know I had my doubts about this series at one point, but right now everything is starting to come together perfectly, and I can’t believe how exciting this episode turned out to be when it almost entirely focuses on Fumie and Yasako, trying to get Kyoko’s body back.
One of the comments from previous week also made me see something interesting: Kyoko is about the same age as when Yasako encountered the humanoid illegal. And I really think that Yasako would have been taken away if it wasn’t for 4423’s efforts. There also seems to be more than one humanoid illegal, though there is a good chance that wao is right, and Yasako’s grandfather is among them. In fact, there could be a chance that all these humanoid illegals were once humans who were taken to the others side. They kept utteing “kyoudai” (sibling) when thy approached Kyoko. That still doesn’t explain why they were looking for 4423 back then, though.
I think Imago plays a key here. If I recall correctly, we’ve seen that Haraken, Yasako and Isako posses it: all of them have lost someone close to them because of the humanoid illegals (assuming that it was really Kanna whom we saw in the previous episode). I wouldn’t be surprised if Mega-baa also turned out to have Imago, because she just knew a tad too much for just an ordinary granny who happens to be good with the cyber-world.
Oh, and Haraken is really going into the wrong direction. Apparently, he’s had an extra pair of glasses hidden somewhere, which he used to back access to the cyber-world, and he’s now really determined to go to the other side. That really can’t be good….
Oh, and one final thing… I’m not sure (my memory could be wrong on this), but didn’t Yasako receive Densuke from either her grandfather or Mega-baa? If she did, then that can’t be a coincidence, especially considering the way Densuke went out and saved Kyoko on his own.]]>

i don’t want to be spoiled so i’m not reading 🙂 but i did want to make a comment about the series in general,even though i’ve only seen up to episode 15,you’ve compared it to a lot of series in all your posts and yet you havn’t mentionned (or maybe i missed it?) the first one that came to my mind: .hack//sign,to me it’s kind of like the glasses are one huge MMORPG and there’s definatly big mysteries and surnatural elements to them,things that happen in the virtual world can affect you in the real world just like in .hack.However dennou coil seems aimed at a younger audience,not that that’s a bad thing,lots of great stories have been made for kids.
.Hack//Sign… that’s indeed a good one, I hadn’t thought about it yet, but the two series are indeed quite similar to each other.

IMO I’m starting to think Densuke was a convenient present from her grandfather. I might be proved quite wrong on this but I’m suspecting perhaps he left some hint or help to her coded within Densuke. After all, she only went and found 4423 and the humanoid Illegal in her youth because Densuke got lost… it’s quite a big stretch but perhaps her grandpa left directions for Densuke to guide her to the right place. And I think it’s worth noting that Densuke’s current design (but not when it was very young, IIRC) has a lock (with a keyhole!) on the collar… wonder if it can be unlocked, and what happens.
They said Not”Kyodai[sibling]”,but”Choudai[please]”.
Remember episode 7 when Isako talks about how Illegal comes to take kids away to the other side? This episode seems to be just that.
It will probably make sense that, base on what Yasako said, Illegals and objects within old space are creation of the hidden thoughts among the Imagos. It will explain why an illegal wish to take 4423 in reflection of Isako’s wish. It’s not far fetch since they seem to have a hidden backdoor connection to old space, which might not only allow them to sense, but also leave behind incomplete/corrupted data of themselves. Now if we assume that Kyoko is an Imago (base on how she help Daichi find old space in the past), then it will make sense how the summer festival is stored there base on Kyoko’s perception.
If we assume that theory is true, it leave a very strong symbolic meaning. How children hide their thoughts and at time surface as old space, how adults repeatedly attempts to suppress the old space, how suppression cause old space to be increasingly destructive, and how old space cannot be suppress and continue to spawn.
Hi! I’m not really sure but isn’t Yasako’s grandfather one of those who developed Imago or the cyber glasses? I thought it’s because of this that Yasako’s glasses is an Imago and that her grandmother knew a lot about the cyber-world and how Haraken’s aunt knew Yasako’s grandmother.

Speculating wildly here… A lot of things happened about 5 years back. Yasako’s grandfather died, perhaps leaving his dennou presence in cyberspace. Various children suffered a strange dennou-related illness. Yasako received Densuke and a pair of glasses to go with it. And Yasako’s grandmother started up a missing cyberpet detective agency by recruiting children. Haraken’s aunt was about 12 at the time, and was the first recruit.
But why would Megabaa suddenly want to look for lost pets? Consider: her husband may or may not still exist in cyberspace, perhaps as an Illegal. Illegals may or may not cross back into the real world, or at least into the glasses-accessible world of current-version cyberspace, by taking over the body of a cyberpet. [Some] children are able to locate objects or entities even in out-dated cyberspace (furui kuukan). So it makes a plausible story. Megabaa recruits children from the families of her co-workers, including Haraken’s family; she waits for (or arranges for?) a pet to be lost in out-dated cyberspace; she sends the children out to look for it, hoping that there is an off chance that they will bring back her husband’s cyber-version as a passenger. Some of the children don’t come back…
At the moment, I’m beginning to think that even the first episodes with Densuke being infected by the illegal were important for the story as well. I mean, the theory that Yasako’s grandfather gave her Densuke to help her get to the other side is nice, but that doesn’t explain why Densuke saved Kyoko.
But, if Mega-baa’s meta-tag also removed the data in Densuke that made him guide Yasako to the old cyber-spaces, it could explain a great deal.
Does not “choudai”(kyoudai) mean [give me] ,do you?
Hmm, I’ve gone to an on-line dictionary and it says the following:
長大 【ちょうだい】 (adj-na,n) very long; great length;

So I guess both translations can be applied.
