Claymore – 21

Hmm, this episode wasn’t as good as the previous one. Mostly because too much time was spent on Raki, who just discovered that Priscilla is an Awakened Being and kept whining about it. The fight of 24 Claymore versus 27 Awakened Beings also disappointed. There were no twists, no new things, and all the Awakened Beings looked like each other. Was this the same for the manga, or is it because of the new route that the anime decided to take? I’ve got nothing against changing the original storyline; heck, Bokura no is currently doing a mighty fine job, but Claymore is about to screw up in two major ways. First of all, the coming chapters in the manga were rumoured to be the best parts of it. Why the heck would you want to change that, knowing this? Second, if the creators are planning to end this at episode 26, they’ve got to work really hard to wrap things up in the end. Heck, we haven’t even seen Alicia and Beth yet. If the current arc lasts three episodes as well, there are only three more episodes left for their development. Will that be enough? Anyway, lots of people die this episode. Most notably: Veronica, Undine, Jeane and Flora. The episode gets a lot better when the Awakened Beings retreat and the second-strongest servant of Easley decides to finish things himself. He probably was a number 2 at one point, as he easily defeats some of the strongest warriors out there. The only major characters on the battlefield left are the original half-awakened ones: Claire, Miria, Helen and Deneve. They’ll probably defeat the guy with Miria’s strength in the next episode. I know that the manga-writers could have made something interesting about this, but what about the writers of the anime? The next episode will be the time that they have to prove themselves.]]>

  1. In the FansubTV forums, one guy stated that the anime will end in a cliffhanger and second season will start when the manga ends. Even though he obviously wasn’t sure and it was his opinion, that perspective is quite possible.
For the fight, I suppose the “directors” felt that Rigardo’s fight to be more important. I was kinda pissed that Flora was somewhat of a “teaser” or a small portion in the anime. I mean she didn’t even draw her sword. I don’t care how fast Rigardo went. Unleash your Yoma powers.
Psh. Though you gotta admit, it was epic.

  2. I think if the anime is going to change the original story then there is no point in waiting for the manga to finish to animate a second series. I think the current arc is only two episodes (looked at an episode list) and comparing with a list of chapters episode 23’s title doesn’t match any chapters title.
Also for Claymore being stabbed in the chest doesn’t mean anything just remember the first episode, I think Jean may have survived, Rigardo is racing through the leaders carelessly and that will probably contribute to his death being as he is ignoring Claire, Helen and Deneve who are all quite capable.

  3. The fight was faster paced in the manga, no raki moments in between and i believe that Rigardo was attacking the leaders so the other AB could finish the weaklings(they never left the town). And Jean`s drill was stupid. Just some complaints.

  4. The Pieta battle follows the manga. Only thing out of snyc was the Raki/Priscilla clips as they did NOT happen at all. Although I must admit that these scenes of Priscilla will add a new dimension to a later Priscilla scene that should come next episode.

  5. I”m just going to watch the manga some more instead :/ I prefer watching the manga to watching the anime at this point. Even though I saw the anime first. when I heard that they were changing I skipped ahead and watched the end of the manga and decided to see fi they were going to do well in the anime. It sounds like I will be severely disappointed if I Watch any further.

  6. The Lion King just slaughtered too many claymores. I really think Jean might be alive and be able to pull one final move off before she dies or something. She only got an arm through her. I also could be wrong.

  7. Watching episode 21, I had the sinking feeling that the anime is going to mess up the ending. But then again, those who haven’t read the manga have been enjoying the ride so far, so I guess my disappointment comes from having read the manga first. Oh well, in a way I’m glad that the manga would still be running long after the anime ends, so in that sense, I don’t really care anymore. :p

  8. you ranted on too much about the changes and the Raki-Prissilla arc.
I think this was a real badass episode, too bad Flora didn’t even get the chance to pee in her panties like how Jean and Undine managed to do, I thought lions were carnivores?…..why did Rigardo peal Flora like a banana? 😀
