From the makers of Touka Gettan, this is their previous work: Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito. Having watched this, I suddenly realize why Touka Gettan felt so weird, because these guys have quite an interesting sense of storytelling. This one is about a collection of stories. Basically, there’s a great library, with a huge amount of books. Each of these books represents a world, and the anime basically features a bunch of people who travel through these worlds, all because of some reason.
The inividual stories aren’t anything special. They either give off a feeling of “been there, done that”, or just aren’t as well developed as the ones in, say, Jigoku Shoujo or Mushishi. What counts in Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito is the overall storyline, because that‘s a memorable one. It may not seem much at first, but even at this time, I continue wondering how deep it actually went. There are quite some motives and emotions that you don’t think off so fast, and I like how, somehow, everything comes together in the end. The ending itself is also quite an interesting one, that actually turned out good.
I can’t believe I’m giving praises here to a hentai-game adaptation, but it’s actually a pretty nice series. This also is one of the few anime-series that actually has shoujo ai as one of its major themes. But, indeed, there is an abundance of useless fanservice at times. Some women also have some of the most impossible hairstyles ever seen in anime, and a few questions were left unanswered by the end (especially the ones regarding the fox). It isn’t extremely emotional or hilarious, and most of the episodes that focus on the side-stories are quite dull, but the plot-related scenes were worth the watch.]]>
Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito Review – 79/100
This was a nice surprise. The anime is full of fanservice indeed, but it’s reasonable as it comes from an H-game. The story is nice and quite original (it reminded me of this: http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/~pwillen1/lit/babel.htm). The quality of the single stories varies a lot from fair good to just nice. Pity there is only one episode per universe, as every sub story could have deserved more developement. After all all the anime is the chase after Lilith and that’s all the other substories are only a plus. Maybe with a full 26 eps series… 🙂

The fansubbers explained that he was Yami, the one who created the world. It’s a shame we never got to see him, but that’s probably better explained in the game.

This was an amazing series. I loved it. I can’t believe the number of bad reviews I’ve read about it though. At least this one seems to do Yamibou justice.
While it wasn’t perfect, I indeed don’t think it deserves so many bad reviews. After all, it’s one of the best hentai-game adaptations I’ve seen thus far. 😛
I liked this series… seriously! But the ending just torn my heart into pieces! So much pain!! 🙁 Eve is right… it seems to me like no one in any world ever loved her as much as Hazuki! And what’s that thing about being her child? It’s more of a consolation prize than a true making up for all the suffering Hazuki went through. At the very least, Eve could’ve done what she did for Gargantua: Help her find someone who could truely love her. Eve is the most selfish character I’ve ever seen. Cute? Yeah, but too damn cruel IMHO.
This was an awesome series! Its a good shoujo ai or yuri but i think its more of a shoujo ai. It really pissed me off though! *spoiler alert* becasue Hatsumi is a little flirt who dosnt give a damn about anyone when she should try to stay with hatsuki but…it got kindve weird too because she is her daughter in the future?-eww but love is love i guess…..

It’s hard to believe that most people leave nasty comments about how the ending sucked/the concept of Hatsumi becoming Hazuki’s daughter. I understand that everyone has different opinions, but some people need to be more open-minded and dig deeper into the story. It’s a great anime in my opinion. For some reason, it just has a different feel to it.
