This is the episode where Zetsuen no Tempest set itself apart. It already had hints before that its story was very different from the usual, but here this really paid off when suddenly everything is turned upside down.
I mean, before it just seemed that there were a bunch of parties that were all acting independantly. This episode revealed so much connections between the different characters, and all of those connections are different. This episode was full of all sorts of bonds, from alliances to truces; I really liked the diversity.
Especially Mahiro impressed me in this episode, though. His mistrust of Yoshino, combined with how Yoshino seems to trust him completely worked really well in this episode, especially combining the tensions with Aika. It’s an interesting episode to reveal that the two of them were more than just siblings. And as much as I’d like to pull the hate card for doing the not blood-related thing again, they actually chose that relationship themselves, rather than making it some contrived excuse to have incest.
Also, Hakaze actually being the one more likely to destroy the world. Nice twist.

Actually, you might be misunderstanding something. There were nothing more than siblings… Aika was not into any type of physical relationship with Mashiro. He was the one obsessed with her. She didn’t correspond at all, she was just teasing him 🙂
This story has won me over with this episode. It definitely set itself apart. Looking forward to more. I actually kind of feel bad for Mahiro. I really want to see what happens when he finds out about Yoshino and Aika. Also I’m pretty sure Mahiro had a one sided interest in Aika.
I think they are more than just siblings, as for what exactly…it seems we are gonna get an explanation next episode.
Anyway, great episode and looking forward to the revelation of Junichirou’s secret, heh.
Having read the manga I can assure you Aika is nowhere near the typical little sister staple (and as already revealed in this episode, they are not even blood-related, but even given this staple I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Mahiro, which I guess just says something positive about the writing). Actually she’s kind of my favorite character because of her nasty, weird personality and how her role is implemented into the plot.
psgels, if you already liked this twist, you’re gonna love this series. I’m just wondering how Bones will deal with the ending as the manga doesn’t have one at the moment (and we all know about Bones and endings…), but then again the anime isn’t a mere copy of the manga anyway at this point. For example the contents of episode 4 were never shown in the manga so far. Either the writer saves it up for later and told Bones beforehand for the anime (which wouldn’t make any real sense) or it’s actually totally new stuff. Either way I like the fact that even readers of the manga don’t get bored easily when watching this, since this often happens in other cases of manga adaptations.

Nope, it’s 24-26eps since the website confirm that there’s 2 boxset of bd/dvd that’ll be released for the collector/hardcore fans of this series which the 1st box contains 6-7 bd/dvd’s and the rest one are in the 2nd boxset.
I find Mahiro and Yoshino’s relationship most intruiging. I think Mahiro does care for Yoshino, but at the same time he’s suspicious of him and doesn’t trust him entirely.
Also, Yoshino was pretty cold this episode. They’re meant to be friends but Yoshino will cooly go behind Mahiro’s back and make deals with others. Yes, it might be for the best in the long run, but still all this secrecy is bound to cause a shit storm later.
Aika being a playa. What will happen when Mahiro finds out?…
