Before I start with the regular entry: I’ve decided to not blog Toshokan Sensou this season. I just couldn’t find anything to praise it for that other series this season didn’t do better, and the female main character already got annoying after the second episode. I don’t know, but it feels a bit too mainstream for Noitamina.
In any case, back to the latest episode of xxxHolic, and what an excellent episode it was! The second season of xxxHolic is really much darker than the first one, but it makes full use of the fact that the first season fully fleshed out the different characters. The Vestal Sprite was kind-of a strange character in the first season, who never really got anywhere, and yet her character developed so much during this episode.
Watanuki also really shined in this episode. His show-off against the spider queen had me on the edge of my seat. One thing that I do hope gets explained in the next episodes is what it means to lose half of your eye. Does your vision get blurry? Can you only see one part of it? What are the disadvantages of giving away half of your right eye that made Yuuko take so much time in suggesting that option?
Lesson 101 of seeing through one eye. first thing is that there is no darkness, you need sight to see darkness. You can’t judge very good with how far is object, things look 2 dimensional. 2 eyes gives you 2 perspectives on things so you can see more of same object and you can see object more clear. if you take 2 photos of same object and put one (transplant photo) on top of other object will look more sharper. and of course blind spot.
In the manga, he literally shares half of Doumeki’s eyesight. The eye that Doumeki gave him had twenty/twenty vision, but now that he has half of it, it’s only ten/twenty for both of them.
second seeason off on a bang. I haven’t read the manga or even followed it but I did watch the first season of xxxholic which was quite exceptional…high hopes for the second season and so far, no disappointment.
This is really a gooood episode! I am totally absorbed in it! At the end Watanuki’s right eye becomes yellow, but the preview of the next episode shows that his right eye is blue again. How come?
Well to clear things up first, extracting the eye wasn’t the payment. Doumeki had to pay Yuuko in order to extract half of his eyesight to give it to Watanuki. And Lika is about halving the vision thing.
Also there doesn’t seem to be any disadvantages. Except maybe Doumeki intruding on Watanuki’s privacy…
Loved this arc! At last Watanaki learns and understands that others get hurt when he gets hurt.
