  1. I kind of like the idea of watching the first two cours of the original, and then switching to the appropriate spot in Brotherhood when the story diverges.

  2. I like the first one better. I never was a fan of Arakawa Hiromu and I thought the adaptation actually handled a lot of things better and made it more interesting. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  3. I think they both compliment each other. Brotherhood is a masterpiece imo, but the original series is a better introduction to the characters. I remember when I started FMAB, I almost didn’t like the slightly jaded and cold Al and Ed. I think FMAB makes them less likeable than the original. At least that’s what I remember, it’s been quite a while since I watched either. Since FMA is such a character-driven series, I think it’s worth it to check out at least the canon parts of FMA before watching FMAB if you haven’t seen either before.

Overall I prefer the manga to either of the adaptions, though.

  4. Both adaptations are good for different reasons. FMAB is an epic adventure story and FMA is slightly more complex and emotional.

  5. I meant Risa’s scene, not Mustang’s scene. That visceral scream of despair from the normally stoic Hawkeye always sends shivers down my spine.
