Well, it was a long wait, but it has finally happened: an episode dedicated to Makabe. And it worked wonderfully: not just he himself emerged as a better character from this episode, but the rest of Team B did as well, especially the fidgety guy and the bossy guy (whose names I can’t remember at the moment, unfortunately) got more depth as this episode finally focused a bit more on their personalities.
Makabe though, he really is aware of how direct he is. I love how he’s been trying, yet failing to keep the team together. It’s great for introducing a bunch of flaws for him: he is brilliant, definitely, but he also can be quite self-centered, also shown by how he replies to those women selling magic space stones. The end of this episode was really charming with the way the creators used his daughter to cheer him up again. This episode really brought balance into his character.
And in the meantime, this episode had a hell of a lot of fun, fleshing out the people from Team A. Mutta in particular was as hilarious as ever, but the rest of the cast also had their wonderful moments because of how analytic he can be. I especially liked how he was forced to scream out twice every day, and how Nitta responded after breaking the toilet. This show, just is brilliant.I thought that last year we got lucky with Kotetsu from Tiger & Bunny, but to be honest: the series is nowhere near over yet, but at this point Mutta has completely surpassed him.
Rating: 5.5/8
I can’t help but laughing out loud at this episode–Mutta is as funny as ever. I also like how this episode adds layer to Kenji’s character–Kenji making a perfect hairdo is also hilarious.
The reactions from Serika are fabulous. Specially to the Michael Jackson one. Nice voice acting.
About Kotetsu. I think that the real great power of him and Mutta is the job of Hirata Hiroaki. Watching the episode, I made this consideration today. If Mutta was dubbed by another voice actor would not have that charm that Kotetsu had.
For me yeah, he is another piece of my beloved Kotetsu.
Hirata is the best seiyū ever.
Hirata is just so good at voicing middle-age losers. His characters are always just so damn likeable. They make you want to root for him.
PSGELS, just to verify, you KNOW it’s the same voice actor for both characters, right?
This was a fun episode!
The great thing is all the expressions of the characters.
That little held in laugh from when Mutta is reading American jokes, made me laugh out loud.
I also liked that he tried to scramble up the air shougi, and the chimp dude just gave him a ‘you idiot’ look and carried on. haha
Finding out the meaning of ka-pe! was heart warming, and loved the touch about the hair.
Yup like psgels says, it breaks him out of that ‘perfect’ mould, gives him flaws, and reveals aspects that make us warm up to him. Brilliant!
ahhh So many characters deserving to become astronauts, it’s going to be so sad when some of them don’t make it !!

One thing though, if everyone gets given a green card, and shit happens, it’s so obvious that it’s under the direction of JAXA, it loses the potential to cause stress, because everyone will just be like ‘oh JAXA must have issued a green card’
