The chemistry between the characters in this episode was just amazing. Even more than usual; the facial expressions said so much about the different cast members, and the stress amongst them was just wonderfully portrayed for every single character, aside from perhaps that woman in team B. I like it when a show withholds the state of mind of some of its characters, but I also just love how this series attempts to dive into the mindsets of multiple characters at the same time, to show how differently they all end up reacting to what’s going on.
As for the reason I dislike slow pacing: that can be attributed to Naruto and Bleach. What I really dislike is the kinds of series that pad out their time, for the sake of padding out time. A recent example of this was Kaiji’s second season, in which everyone started to repeat themselves over and over and over ad nauseum.
With this however, I really want to applaud Uchuu Kyoudai for showing how a slow pacing should be done: every scene adds something. Every characterization improves the characters and makes them more rounded. And the great thing about this is: this series managed to find a way to never be boring; it’s always interesting, due to the fantastic acting here. Because of this, the creators are able to create an engaging story with a lot of twists and turns and really well rounded characters to boot.
Of course, right now it’s pretty clear that Fukuda and that Rubix cube guy are people from JAXA sent in to stir up trouble, but what interests me much more than the mystery around them is the way they’re acting and how they managed to cause the tension around everyone to rise.
Rating: (Awesome)
I still doubts they are agents sent in by Jaxa.
From what I gathered, the Doctor has given the selected cadets instructions . Going off from Furaya’s reaction.
Maybe they were threatened that if they didnt perform the task/ and told anyone, they would fail the exam.
Psgels, you’re missing the Asterisk beside Awesome. đ Just pointing it out
Yeah, I’m experimenting a it with leaving those out, because the minus ratings are hard to read (try telling – and — apart).
Cool. If you are planning to leave them out, perhaps you don’t need to have the word in brackets anymore? Just a suggestion đ
Space bros is now unstoppable!
Uchuu Kyoudai is going to be more than 2 cour! đ

That’s the reason why I.m not feared that they would make a rushed ending, and as you said the slow pacing is great with Uchuu Kyoudai because you can enjoy it.
I don’t think they are spy sent by Jaxa too. They were just forced to do as Jaxa want.
I have to disagree a bit. I really think the story needs to pick up here. More things need to happen faster. They have the characters established already. I think it’s time for some real twists to start happening.
Though that sounds horribly vague, I really do think they are just going too slow here. Why not have Fukuda’s reasoning be unmasked at the end of that episode? Why drag it out longer than this. There are plenty more interesting things to be getting to (the candidate selection in the different groups, the relationships between the characters). There is no reason to let the plot drag at this point.
Do keep into account this show is supposed to run for 48 episodes, and in my opinion, the final overall goal of this anime should be for Mutta to actually go into space, therefore the whole story should obviously be about the entire process of Mutta getting there, therefore this entire exam process.
The plot is not dragging, the plot is being exactly what it should be.
Still, I think the pace dropped just a little to much. For example the food problem. Just one shoot in the last 2 episodes, and I think they don’t take the time for all the members equally. Maybe this will go well for the overall arc but just now I am not really exited for the next episode. Almost forgot this already, bad sign.
Fantastic episode, JAXA is really putting some real nasty pressure on those people .. my theory on the “green one” as they called them in this episode is that they aren’t people from JAXA .. but they are candidates .. the only difference between them and the others is that they got extra tasks they have to take on in order to succeed in the exam .. after all .. to them the others are both competitors and strangers to begin with .. so if they got a chance to score extra points i’m sure they will take it.
As for the slow pacing, they are handling it wonderfully, i heard a rumor the show will even have more than 25 episodes, so there is no reason to rush things, at the beginning of the series i never imagined we will be seeing what we are seeing now (i was wondering how they are going to fill so many episodes with content with out boring people or having them lose interest half-way through .. and they did it perfectly).

Yeah, after watching this episode that’s my conclusion too.
It seems that whoever broke the clock isn’t the one who is ringing the alarm. That would explain why Furuya changed his attitude, I think he was asked to do the alarm prank and therefore knows now why the clock was broken.
However i’m bit disappointed about how it’s only now that Makabe finally realized that the alarm prank is JAXA doing. The whole confinement is a test, everyone knows it, yet they choose to blame each-other and not even think of possibility of this being yet another test. Mutta doesn’t counts here, he just said whatever he said to buy some time (and got lucky again, I wonder if this “got lucky” thing will be the general theme with Mutta). So basically it took them 10 days to become irrational?
I am so happy to hear this is getting the long play!
And I agree that Fukuda, at least, can’t be merely a JAXA plant – we’ve already seen his backstory and motivation, and it’s pretty powerful. He wouldn’t do anything that blocked his way to actually going into space…
I think that the ‘Space Camp” genre, including Twin Spica, Planetes, this, and even Rocket Girls – is one of my very favourites.
I’m the same. Watch also Moonlight Mile (especially second season). So far Space Brothers is the perfect show for me and one of the best I’ve seen in years.
Pretty sure you’re wrong, pgels.
Those ‘green ones’ are probably people who received instructions from JAXA. Doesn’t mean they’re plants from the get-go but simply coerced into doing these things.
I mean, why else would Furuya look so pissed after going out from his medical checkup? My guess is JAXA knew Mutta found out about Fukuda and had someone else replace him (Furuya) for the next disruptive task meant to sow chaos.
