Interesting. The final part of Toward the Terra is going to be political. Instead of going in an all-out battle, this episode featured negotiations between the humans and the Myu. Because of this, it isn’t as emotional as the previous episode, but I’m quite interested in how the creators were planning to end this series. The episode ends with Grand Mother, finally showing herself, and I wonder what she’ll be adding to the ending.
The best moment of the episode was when Terra finally appeared, though. It’s become one huge desert, how’s that for a disappointment! It seems that it’s still habitable, but only a few humans can live there, and it was a brave decision of Jomie to keep advancing, even after having seen this. He’s really evolved into a great leader.
The negotiations happen in a huge tower, which probably provides one of the few habitable environments. Perhaps this was handled a bit too quickly, either that or it was me, not paying attention. Before the negotiations happen, Physis visits Keith, asking what Blue’s last words were. Overall, I couldn’t follow most of the talking due to my limited Japanese, unfortunately.
There’s only one episode left. All that’s left to hope now is that the creators haven’t shot themselves in the foot with their planning, and don’t end up rushing the final episode. I’m not expecting anything, and I’ll assume that the best episode of this series will be episode 22. Making a good anime is one thing, but ending it well is an entirely different story. I’ve seen magnificent series with just mediocre endings (Escaflowne and Mahou Shoujotai come to mind), and it really takes something extra to make it original, not predictable and still satisfying. If I had to make a quick guess, then I’d say that out of all the shows I’ve seen up till now, only half a dozen ended up with a great ending, and that isn’t much. Most series either turn mediocre or just good, but way below the overall quality of the series.]]>

I agree with your comment about Escaflowne being blown to pieces by the ending (really is a shame since it was a really great anime until around episode 19 or something) but I beg to differ about Mahou shoujotai, I think the ending was pretty good and overall it is really a great anime !

When they showed that Terra/Earth is now a desert planet and no more the blue planet per the dreams and propaganda, I didn’t think that it was a disappointment. More like the moment of clarity and revelation of a dirty secret about the condition of Earth.
Having watched the movie version, I dread what’s going to happen in the final episode.

You know, I really loved the way Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto ended. The music, the snow, the statues… The series by itself was just okay, with some cool moments here and there, but I think the ending was pretty amazing…
Well, this is just me being picky. I’m not sure why actually, I usually have a broad taste but when it comes to endings it’s totally different. I don’t know the exact reason, but most endings feel unoriginal and predictable to me.
Oh gosh, it’s not picky! It goes to taste too!! It’s funny but I’ve never really cared about predictablility, maybe because I’ve always waited for the story to be told to me rather then think ahead to what may happen next. I’ve never been all that great at chess either, for that very same reason, I guess. I can’t read very far ahead to see where my oponent may move next. I’m not sure if that’s a weakness or a very tiny strength, for watching anime that is. O_O It’s definately a huge weakness for chess! But that’s okay too. I just like to play. Anyway, I can’t wait for the next episode of Terra and I agree with leongsh, I hope it doesn’t end like the movie…

But i’m rather glad they made episode 23 more political than battle. A battle to the bitter end is rather cliche so it was nice that they spiced it up with something more realistic. Plus 3 episodes of battles would have been too monotonous. Though I’m all for a battle in Episode 24 XD. My prediction is that Keith dies. Which is too bad since I find him a heck of a lot more interesting than Jomy. Poor Matsuka. 🙁
Habiendo visto la pelicula ese es el final esperado, al final Keith mata a Jomy y la computadora padre se rebela ante todo, los Mu son parte del proyecto de SD 🙂

That one was a mean spoiler, and we dunno if Jomy dies for sure, and the most important the hole mystery is deffinately not political. one thing is sure Keith in the end will be a human not machine.
I hope the series ends differently than the movie. In the series, the humans still hate the Mu.. so it’s unlikely they’ll all be hugging at the final episode. Btw, for anyone interested…the movie is out @ mininova.
Well, if the series does end the way the manga did, then I think you won’t be disappointed.
Btw, it seems that a lot of people are against the movie ending but personally, I wouldn’t mind it since it’s similar to the manga ending anyways (which I loved). But I heard the anime ending is gonna be different from its sources. So let’s cross our fingers and hope the producers won’t give us something like “Keith and Jomy destroyed GM, saved Terra from self-destruction, and everyone lives happily ever after.”

The ending itself is kind of interesting but it’s totally inconsistant with the rest of the series. Unless it does a heck of a job explaining itself I think the ending ruins the purpose of one of the most important aspects of the show, the maturity checks.
