Yeah, this really was meant to be a hard to watch episode. Finally Kotetsu mans up and settles down in order to raise Kaede… and then his partner breaks down. This was something that was bound to happen: Barnaby’s rise in popularity couldn’t last forever, and with this he didn’t just find out that Jake wasn’t the murderer of his parents, but someone has also been screwing with his memories.
Of course he doesn’t know yet that Ouroboros is as corrupt as hell, so he can probably only guess what the hell happened there. It’s a really scary thought of suddenly figuring out that half your memories may be fakes. My guess is that his mind was probably changed in those relaxing chamber thingies, in order to 1) divert attention from the real killer, 2) boost Barnaby’s popularity, 3) boost ratings, and possibly even 4) get rid of Sky-High, who still is by far the strongest hero out there. Just try figuring that out from Barnaby’s position, though.
Now, thanks to Kotetsu this episode wasn’t as enjoyable as the previous ones, but the creators were really deliberately trying to turn him indecisive. With this, I can understand the creators’ decision to make him retire a bit more: he will probably retire, but this will most likely happen at the end of the series. Just randomly quitting right now would be too irresponsible to Barnaby, while not quitting would be too irresponsible to Kaede.
These are some very interesting dilemmas here, and I hope that the creators won’t a) use something cheap by turning Kaede into a bad guy or b) come with some very convenient solution out of nowhere that allows Kotetsu to solve both. If this doesn’t happen, then the finale has just become even more potentially interesting.
Also, who the hell in that village has magnetic powers?
Rating: ** (Excellent)
> who the hell in that village has magnetic powers?
Yeah, that was my first thought.. was it just a quick jab at Magneto’s powers, or will it turn out to be significant?
The brother, maybe? Or just a classmate who has it under control, I mean, we know that being a NEXT is nothing that uncommon.
Also, I agree with the “his mind being altered in that sleep chamber thing”. That would make sense, at least more sense than the “Barnaby is a robot” theories that a flying around the internet these days.
I’m calling it, that mentor of barnaby we saw a few episodes back is the mastermind behind everything! Or at the very least he is the one tampering with his memories.
My therory about Bunny’s screwed up memories is those machines they used in the beginning of the series to relax. Like it just rubbed me the wrong way…idk like Tiger seemed to question it too. Thus, it proves Mr.Maverick is the root of all evil and is semi-controlling Baranby. Ugh…I feel for Tiger…having to chose between his friend and Daughter.
@Leah-San The robot theory makes more sense. Husband and wife works with Androids. They can’t conceive a son so they make a son. Barnaby caught Mr. Maverick kill his parents so Maverick changed his memory so that he couldn’t find out who the murderer was and put him so he couldn’t be connected to the crime. It’s brilliant!
Does anyone know anything about scarf-girl? I know there is something about her in the official Tiger & Bunny guides but no ones released pages about it… What is her deal? she shows up way too often >_
@Roldan
Brilliant? Nope. That’s just downright stupid.
Forget Jake reading his mind. There have been plenty of times when Barnaby was getting beaten around. Now isn’t it odd that no one commented on it feeling like they were punching steel? Hit an android and it would barely move. Plus while I don’t have the whole series on hand to search though there must have been one point where Barnaby was bruised or bleeding. That just kicked the android theory out of the water. Not even sunrise could pull a plot twist that dumb.
@Kallen
Are you talking about the girl that pops up like every episode and is hidden in the backgroud? I noticed in like every episode and I just know she has something to do with the plot but I don’t know what yet… Instead of Baranby being the andriod maybe she is! haha~
Scarf-lady is probably just the animator’s joke. She doesn’t seem to be a consistent character as there is one scene in which she is saved by a hero and right after it cuts to her cheering in the crowd for her duplicate. Or being everywhere is her super power.
Also, if you look closely at the flashbacks of Barnaby, the memories change right after he goes into the relaxation chamber. The figure becomes initially more similar to Jake and then fuzzier than even the original memory.
Has Kaede figured out who Kotetsu is? It might make it easier for him to explain why he can’t just go home right now.
@Puran, thats been called a long time ago…his name is Mr. Maverick lol
I don’t see anything wrong with Bunny being an android. Tiger and Bunny is all about cliches, but using them very very well.
First Barnaby can’t be an Android … never seen one that grows up like a human .. and needs food .. gets hit and bruised … the theory just falls apart infront of common sense.
As for Maverick being the bad guy .. that’s very likely … he was one of the faces in Barnaby jumbled memory … it could very well be the “TRUE” memory that got mixed with the fake ones … the more interesting part is knowing Mavericks motivations for killing Barnaby’s Parent’s .. proably something to do with their robotics research .. really eager to find out more about it .. by the way .. what happenedto the the guy who worked with Barnaby’s parent’s .. he too is a candidate for being the mudrerer as he was very close to the paren’t research and migh twanted to steal it for himself … also .. did we get clear shots of the hands of both men or not !!!?
Finally … interesting to see Kaede having the power to copy powers .. very useful for fighting other Next … but really .. where did she get the Magnetic powers from … her grandmother or uncle maybe XD
from uncle Magneto hahaha.
I jus tnoticed that there was somethign off about Maverick during the whole Jake thing, how he Manipulated the mayor to let the heroes handle things. . .it just smelled fishy back then, THEN the episode where he dropped barnaby off at home right before his parents died. . .it seemed to be either a red herring or something really fishy. . .as maverick gave off some real creeper Vibes in that scene.
