Soul Eater – 06

Here’s a strange phenomenon I have no explanation of: due to the recent arrests, a large amount of the Share-users have stopped uploading their files by now, though the few that remain find it for some strange and inexplicable reason a good idea to release in a high quality video-file as possible. Suddenly, 75% of all new files are in some kind HD .mp4 or .mkv-format. So… yeah. If you’ve been wondering why I’ve been so slow for the past few days: my pc doesn’t support HD video-files.

In any case, I’m glad that this series is really taking its time exploring its concepts. This time, we see that not just any weapon meister can team up with a random weapon, even if the two of them are best friends. Their souls need to be in resonance in order for this to happen. The key is much more to understanding each other.

The thing I’m waiting for right now is to see Soul or Black Star, teaming up with Kid in a team-mission. Death the Kid really seems like a person who prefers fighting alone (or alone with his weapons). I can imagine how he’ll have huge amounts of trouble, trying to work together with the asymmetric idiots that are Soul and especially Black Star.

  1. Actually no, Death the Kidd does not really push his symmetry obsession to others outside his weapon team. Otherwise he will be totally unbearable as a friend. Despite his OCD, he knows how to balance friendship and his symmetry antics, as we will see further into the story.

In other aspect not symmetry related, his emotion is quite stable. He is actually the sanest of the 3 main technicians.

And another no, he does not mind idiots (he himself is quite an idiot) XD. Patty is an idiot to begin with.

  2. The .mp4 files have been out there for quite a while, it’s just that most people chose other formats. Now that the people who encoded into other formats are gone (or at least have slowed down) downloaders turn to what is available. And yeah, my PC can’t play these either, which is sort of ridiculous.

(By the way, I don’t understand the need to encode everything in HD. Sure, there are shows with awesome, detailed art and/or beautiful animation. But shows that are just okay/decent? what’s the point?)

  3. Not HD ftl.

As for a mission teamed up with Kidd, Black Star’ll be with him in 3 episodes, if the pacing of one chapter per episode continues.

  4. The MP4 or MKV (Matroska Video) containers have nothing to do with HD content. These can and many do contain standard resolution video. Matroska is extremely flexible. I’d prefer if all fansubbers used Matroska for standard resolution as well. Soft-subs and chapters are really nice to have. Those who still publish an low-res version seem they aim for the lowest common denominator with AVI files.

  5. Hmm, regarding Perfect Dark… I have been using it so far, but I can’t see what’s so good about it. It brings in fewer results as share and new files still appear with days of delays. Did i do something wrong with it?

  6. You can always re-encode from HD to LD without problems. On the other hand, the opposite process is impossible because you cannot re-create missing information.
So if you’re short of sources, better share an HD source.

Mkv, mp4 are containers, the resolution depends on the codec used for the video they contain.
If your PC doesn’t support HD, maybe you can still convert dhe HD video to LD. Use meGui to do the job and wait. Conversions take long time, expecially with no top level PCs

  7. Kid has teamed up with Black Star (twice I think), and they get along well.

He has also teamed up with Maka and Soul in the recent chapters. They get along well too.

I think Kid is the type who can fight alone or with friends. It’s actually easy to get along with him as long as you don’t mess up any symmetrical stuff xD Haha!

  8. This was total fangirlish fanservice for me. The novelty of such things in this series will likely eventually wear off, but for now I was delighted to see what was basically an episode long battle combining canonical information (I’m all for the details, and Stein’s commentary worked for me), characterisation, and….a whole lot of fighting going on.

Kid using the Resonance move was sheer overkill given the state of his opponents (who I agree with the audience were idiotic in this ep), but I was glad to see it; would have been impatient otherwise waiting for the trio to pull it off *sometime*.

For the preview, it’s suggested things are going to get a bit more serious, but it then concludes with Death Scythe running into Stein. Oh, dear me. That’ll be a scene to watch out for. Because Stein’s relation to his namesake is hilarious in a horrible, horrible way.

Glad you’re blogging this series, and hope it stands out enough for you to continue doing so.

  9. Please tell me, what software supports these .mkv & .mp4 files? I really, really want to watch these episodes without having to go on the internet. Also, this show is so AWESOME! I haven’t seen stories like these for a while. Thanks for blogging this series.

  10. Just install the combined community codec pack and that should be able to play .mkv-files and .mp4-files, though the HD-ones will probably give you lag.
