So I think that it was obvious that I was going to blog this series. It is undoubtedly the epic of the season, not to mention that it feels so unique. I know what will happen up to a chapter or ten or so, but even then these first episodes had me fired up. The thing with the manga is that I only got invested with the story at the point of episode three, at which it gets really, really good. The anime really put in some effort to make the build up very detailed and engaging.
What matters the most is the next few episodes. This series is incredibly polished. But the manga was more than that. It had something extra with its presentation. Let’s now see whether the creators can capture that as well.
This episode mostly stood out with how dark and grim it was about the consequences of the outer Rose Wall being breached: there just was not enough food for everyone. People were abandoned and eaten, but on top of that people were now in a situation in which the entire population just would not be able to survive. It only adds up more to how incredibly screwed humanity is, and I really like that.
Then the presentation: the creators really gave a very worthy attempt to bring life to the titans. The big titan that breached the gate in this episode really had presence thanks to some very good animation and direction. It’s because of scenes like this that I called this series nearly impossible to translate well to animation: The giant designs are really detailed and they all just look incredibly intimidating. You need to keep this up consistently if you want to be able to retain the same epic atmosphere.
Rating: 5.5/8 (Excellent)
as awesome as it the next episode is gonna be like a big baNG 😀
According to the preview, the next episode should be the training arc. I’m not sure how i feel about them going chronologically.
Going with chronological order probably can help non-manga-readers to remember characters’ names better.
I havent read the manga nor do I want to since I dont wanna be spoiled, but this was amazing… So far everything feels spot on
The scene with the giant breaching Wall Maria was really powerful
Also, grown up Misaka is hot LOL Im glad they did a time skip right away, I was wondering how the hell a bunch of kids were gonna deal with giants, though thats pretty common in anime
i think their are gonna be flashbacks and stuff the anime seems to be adopting a straight route instead of the jumping route like the manga
So far it follows the manga closely, no difference in timelines
Mikasa is all of 12-years-old when the last scene in episode 2 happens. So, not a grown up at all.
All in all my main issue with this series was Kaji Yuki and his annoying voice. Luckily those last 5 minutes, when he enroll into the military, made me had better expectations from his voice role. Hopefully he can keep it up.
The main difference imo between the manga and the anime is the titans, they are really scary in the manga. Their disproportionate joints and their creepy faces in the manga was really something. The anime doesn’t air in a time apropriate for more gore, so it uses splatters of blood, but in the manga you really get to see how brutal these giants are.
Overall the anime studio did a very good job, considering how difficult it is to animate these feelings.
I don’t know, the titans seem pretty scary to me. That one female one with no lips and one yellow eye looks really creepy.
First post here! Anyway what an amazing anime! I first found out about it by reading the spring preview page that a friend of mine linked me. I really like the show.
