Samurai Flamenco – 06

Samurai Flamenco is a series that very cleverly keeps escalating. And this episode was a good example of this: the reward on Samurai Flamenco’s identity got bigger, he got more famous, the force used against him becomes more lethal, his gadgets get upgraded, people gang up on him more, more other superheroes enter the picture with the arrival of the other two flamenco girls. The only thing that doesn’t escalate is goto’s relationship with his girlfriend, which seems to have gone back to normal after their difficult time earlier. That’s an interesting development: a stable relationship. or at least one that looks like it so far.

At this point in the series it’s a bit too early whether this approach really works in the long run. For that we need a bit more time to see what it’s building up for. This episode’s main purpose was escalating and building up, even though a lot seemed to happen into it. Masayoshi in any case continues to stay true to himself with how he doesn’t doubt anyone on purpose, but the question is how long he can keep this up.
Rating: 5/8 (Great)

    1. Sounds reasonable. In episode 1, she replied that she would pick up the umbrella next month. (So she was probably just at his place before episode 1 and they meet roughly monthly.)

In episode 5 when Gotou said he had some free time for a date, she replied she was not in the mood. This may not be an unusual thing, but in episode 4 she seemed a bit annoyed that Gotou had recently been talking only about Masayoshi. She also added that Gotou did not seem happy, and even when their date got cancelled, he was happier to talk about Masayoshi, so she would not see him until he found happiness (not sure what that means).

It is quite interesting that we are showed bits and pieces of this relationship every now and then, and it does seem to happen in parallel to the main story even though they haven’t met since the first episode.

The mail conversation also somewhat mirrors Gotou x Masayoshi as seen from Mari. (probably a recurring joke.)

  1. I am not sure what this show wants to be.

The production is exceptionally realistic, and yet the characters are unrealistically dumb.

It is like watching toddlers’ cartoon characters in the setting of a noir crime movie.

  2. It’s a bit more of the same, but building up on the premise.

I did like the stationary as weapons, that was quite inventive, and there was logic to it, as he can’t get done for carrying around stationary.

Aside from that. Just where is this going?

I keep thinking it will be a tragedy, just because it has a fairly realistic setting, aside from the crazy superhero wannabes, just can’t see it ending well.
