Well, in any case it’s clear that Sunrise put most of its staff this season on Gundam and Horizon. That’s the only explanation of why the animation is already rushed at this stage. Especially considering how Persona with its staff issues looks even better. This episode was full of distorted faces. In any case, I’m still curious as to how this series is planning to make sense of all that’s going on. This episode added a special club-house for the four geniuses with free food included to the mix, along with a scooter WHO CAN CATCH UP TO A FREAKING PLANE. The above-mentioned animation also lead to a bit of awkward acting here and there. I will say this, though: this show is working on the emotional level. This episode was meant to explore Daimon’s trauma of losing his parents… and it actually worked. It used its side-characters well to keep the flow o the episode going, and present interesting puzzles that were all based on some kind of mechanical premise. The creators also actually used a cliche well in their advantage: in anime, characters are either great or terrible cooks, so I already rolled my eyes when the characters brought up Nonoha’s terrible cookies. And in the end this just turned out to be part of Damon’s trauma. In a way I feel sorry for Kaito to have everyone push expectations and tasks onto him even though he’s just a teenager at this point. In a way the red-haired guy is the perfect antidote for him, because he can take these expectations away from him. Apparently he was sent to study in england abroad on his own against his consent. No, for studios like Sunrise that have multiple separate divisions working on shows, their workload generally don’t effect the quality of their shows. I’d imagine it’s because NHK-E, the main investor in this show, is stingy with production money. All of their shows have this problem. AGE and Horizon look so good because Bandai and Dengeki Bunko respectively are willing to invest a lot more money in the shows.
Speed plane versus scooter. I don’t think this is a fair description of what happened, although the underlying problem might remain. First it looked like they were flying in some sort of a heavy helicopter, not an airplane, so the target speed is likely slower than a plane. Second, “scooter” implies a low-powered two-wheel vehicle, but they took a motorcycle which implies a speed difference of maybe 30MPH versus 250MPH. The third thing would be something we don’t quite know, which is how far they travelled — the farther travelled, the more the faster vehicle has an advantage.
I don’t know if they really could have caught up to the helicopter on a motorcycle, unless it was a very short distance, but I don’t think this was quite as unlikely as you implied. Anyways the very presence of the “Sage Puzzles” requires a fair amount of suspension of disbelief.
I haven’t seen this episode but i can give a professional opinion as piloting helicopters is something i have been doing for 8 years now. I’ve flown in the military , and now i fly commercially. The fastest motorcycles on the planet go faster than choppers. The fastest chopper ever created did have a top speed of about 20 mph faster than the fastest bike , but that copter model was never used commercially , and was what you might call a prototype.
The average speed of a helicopter is between 150-170 mph. You don’t even need a top of the line racing bike to beat that speed.
After watch for 5 episodes, this anime really have some potential; plus the anime didn’t come out from manga, which i am already impress…plus, we don’t know what will install for us in this anime, because i am sure this anime is already getting to get famous in Japan
Er, they didn’t catch up to the plane – they followed the plane and arrived when Kaito & Co. were already done with the three puzzles.
Anyway, I keep enjoying this show, it’s strangely charming in its own way. It’s so silly but as you say it’s working on an emotional level.
