Pandora Hearts – 20

Okay. That was awesome! Whoever said that fillers are bad? Most of this episode was just random banter, but that’s exactly what made it so hilarious at this stage. Especially when Oscar brought out the liquor in the second half of the episode, the hilarity really started. And okay, I know I said filler, but it’s not like this episode was completely useless either. It did a great job of fleshing out the characters, developing them slightly and wrapping up the past arc. But seriously, more anime should have drinking episodes. They almost often result in hilarity and yet you hardly ever see them. Obviously with shows about kids this is understandable, but with series where the characters are sixteen years or older, I don’t see much harm. This episode really showed some interesting new things about the characters, like how half of the members of the main cast are terrible at handling alcohol. Only Oz and Oscar seem to be fine with it, and Break only pretends to be drunk, but Sharon turns into an even bigger narcissist than she already was, and especially Gilbert and Alice experienced really heavy mood-swings. Something also tells me that in this episode, the creators were having the time of their lives trying to come up with all of the different facial expressions throughout this episode. They were all very creative, and really funny. As for the main plot, there was only about a minute dedicated to it, but the twist we learned was pretty big: Eliot is yet another guy who was warped into the future during the tragedy of Sabrie. In fact, he was the one who wrote Alice’s song, and something tells me that the creators had a very good reason to keep Alice out of the action during the past Ada arc. There is some bad news, though: next week is going to be a hiatus. Damn. Rating: ** (Excellent)]]>

  1. i think you got something a bit incorrect… unless they changed something from the manga, Alice’s ‘song’ wa written by someone[s] else. 🙂

  2. Really? I could swear that I heard Eliot say that he was the one who composed that song. I didn’t watch this episode raw, it could be that Ironwolf’s subs got an error there. Or Eliot was simply lying back then.

  3. no it’s right, eliot said in the manga as well, that he wrote the song. whether he’s lying or not isn’t solved yet (even in the manga.)

  4. *Spoiler:*
it is clear in the manga that Jack + Glen baskerville wrote the music box song, however – eliot wrote close to the same song with the exact same name… what that means? dunno. but i think its a bit early to infer he was warped to the future (or even really ‘wrote’ the song)
    *end spoiler*

  5. This episode was hilarious, both in anime-form and manga-form.
    But I almost cried for two reasons after this episode: 1.) the preview (which features one of my favorite chapter/character), 2.) learning that it won’t be airing until the 27th. ;_;

  6. This episode was a lot of fun even though it was a filler, but I can’t believe I have to wait til the 27th. It’s soo far.

  7. Eliot really is a mystery, as mentioned up to now an unsolved one. What is weird about him is that he composed Lacie, which is a song that was composed long ago and put into that pocket watch that Oz found so yes there is in a sense two composers Eliot who composed Lacie right now and another who composed it long ago and put it into the pocket watch as the tune for the music box. On a side note I do also wonder if there is a connection between Lacie and Alice considering how they’re basically using the same letters in their name but it one seems to be the re-arranged version of the other, another hanging mystery.

  8. after slowly following the series, I finally catch up.
there one think still bugging me. the character fell too superficial or doll like characteristic.
yes their have a lot mystery, it is indeed interesting, but that entirely on the mystery alone not the character.
20 episode in, I still unable to determine any of the character characteristic, everyone act mostly random.
the only character that I find is not
    Elliot Nightray
    Xerxes Break
Oz Vessalius ( still not there yet, but after those argument between elliot, I finally understand something about him )

  9. This episode wasn’t filler – in fact, they cut a few bits of it. Mostly to extend the fanservice, I think…rest assured, the translator for Iron Wolf has read all of the current manga. (Though I wish I could get my hands on the raws for the latest ones.)

  10. No one paid attention to the sequence with Eliot in his room talking about his recurring dreams? I believe it strongly suggest that Glen may be inhabiting some part of his consciousness in the same manner that Jack is with Oz, and that dream is probably part of Glen’s memories. Only…unlike Jack, he’s not sitting back and only taking over when given permission…he’s slowly merging his own soul with Eliot’s.
