Pandora Hearts – 12

Now this is Pandora Hearts! This definitely was my favourite episode of this series since episode two and three. We learned lots of new things about our characters, and the quiet moments were pure comedic gold. This episode really had the dark and gothic tone that originally made me fall in love with this series.

Break really showed a different side of himself when both he and Alice got captured by the Cheshire Cat (another Alice in Wonderland reference) and it showed that he isn’t perfect in his schemings. He too seemed to be bothered by some sort of dark alter ego that he didn’t know about, like Alice. I’m really curious now as to what was up with that. At the same time, why did the lair of the Cheshire Cat contain hints of Alice’s memories?

The lighter moments were also wonderful in this episode. I loved how Oscar completely appeared from out of nowhere, in front of the two boys he hasn’t seen in ten years. Or Break’s attempts at camouflage, or Gil’s obsession with his particular hat. There really is a huge value put to that hat: for some reason he’s really attached to it, and yet he leaves it with Oz when the two are apart. I’d love to see the full story behind it.

Rating: ** (Excellent)
Lots of things happened, new developments and overall a really enjoyable episode.

  1. oho, this is surprising; I thought you were going to rank this eppy lower (I love it, of course despute the bit nasty animation)

The scriptwriters really know what they’re doing; anime fans might think this is too fast=paced but a mangafan such as myself found this perfectly fine (except for a bit cut up part….Oz’s knee kicking didn’t make it, eh?)

Next week’s should be even more fun! Cheshire Cat’s my fave character; not only for his unique designs but also his backstory~~~

And the ‘alter ego” of Break; he’ll show you the side that you’ll never expected from Xerxes break xD (by the way, Break’s ninjutsu looks like it was under-development

  2. Cheshire is one of my favorite characters, just because he’s rather “tragic” and overall just plain adorable.

The pace is very nice – not too fast, not too slow. The script writer knows what she’s doing. ;D

  3. Uwa, House’s head’s here ( OAO)!

Right now I’m just hoping they’ll know when to slow down just enough to make “that” chapter the ending… open ending of course; who would want an anime-original ending, anyway?

  4. You will get an answer as to why that hat is important to Gil but lets just say the answer is both unexpected and will lead to a rather funny scene, which I hope the anime will keep :D, but then again I don’t know of the anime will reach that part. I just hope the series concludes with an anime original ending that will leave room open for season 2.

Anyways with the start of the Cheshire arc things will definitely begin to pick up from this point onwards.

  5. No! No anime-original, please!

There could finish this one pretty nicely since there will be a certain chapter that is pretty perfect as an open ending.

Well, they MUST make another season which still follow the manga. The latest chapter was godly… ( OAO)

  6. Well basically chapter 23 would work as a good enough ending. But they will have to create an anime original eitherway, I’m fine with an anime original as long as it keeps the possibility of season 2 open because things are really picking up.

  7. Then if an anime original must happen, it had better be something logical…

But if you follow the manga, you’ll find out that there isn’t enough gap to make up an anime original….

Well, once chapter 32 hits onemanga, you’ll understand why.

  8. More like with all the strings left hanging in the manga right now, there’s no way to make a logical anime ending without it becoming complete nonsense. I can see the typical cheesy “whatever happens, we’ll still be friends~” open ending happening, but that’s about it. (and a cheesy end like that would fit perfectly with ch32 anyway. =P)

And I don’t see why so many people are predicting the manga material to stop before the school arc, considering that the OP contains characters from both the school arc and the arc after that… :/
