Pandora Hearts – 09

I must say, I like Echo a lot with this episode. Her antics are really fun to watch.

This episode also sheds a bit more light on the mysterious Vincent Nightray, who seems to be central to the plot’s mysteries. The guy looks a lot like the one that was with Alice when she was young, and for some reason he’s very interested to see the potential in either her grown up version or Oz himself. I have reasons to believe that he was the one who sent Break after Oz in the first place. There seems to be a lot going on in that Nightray family that’s being kept secret of us.

In any case, the rest of this episode showed Oz a situation he can relate to very much: fathers. Because he grew up with such a terrible father he really wishes for nobody to go through the same things as he did (speaking of which, what happened to that bugger in the past ten years anyway?). And sure enough, this features a kid who is about to lose his father to a monster of the Abyss. Yet again it’s an episode that’s meant to enforce the bond between Oz on one side and Gilbert and Alice on the other side, who both never had a parent in the first place (or can’t remember them anyway) and can’t relate to how much Oz wanted to have respect from his father.

Rating: * (Good)
Building up, but this show is still going strong.

  1. Well, Vincent is going to be really important to the story later

And wow, you gave this week’s episode a Good. I thought that you’re going to give Enjoyable only with all the strange animation in the end though Echo’s spinning was lovely

  2. I really never got why people picked at the animation in this series… As an artist I’m VERY picky when it comes to series appearance, and personally I love it for Pandora Hearts. It’s not anything amazing, but you can tell they’re trying hard, don’t pull corners, and have their budget spread out appropriately. I can’t stand it when studios put all their effort into the first to first few episodes of a series, and the rest/most of it looks terrible. Thus I admire any and every series that is simply consistent.

On the note of this epsiode, Echo’s design reminds me of a gothic/victorian/fancy Eureka, and personality wise but only when it comes to initial impressions.

  3. Glad someone’s still watching PH despite the strange animation LOL

I’m pretty sure that XEBEC COULD have make the animation prettier if they hadn’t use too many great seiyuus on side-characters (the flower girl in epi 5 was voiced by Kaori Nazuka) but oh well, I’ve seen something way WORSE than this so I will definitely stick up till the end xD

Anyway, two or three more episodes, we’ll get L’s seiyuu for a cat xD

  4. Lironah if you read this, could you upload your script or your .avi of PH09 somewhere please or the next episodes if you gonna sub them^^. It’s a shame and a waste if I’m gonna watch your release(s) on streaming >_

  5. Shed more light on Vincent you say but really not even his face was shown. Actually nothing particularily important was revealed about him yet. All in all it’s a good episode- some action, some plot-building and some ‘Break teasing everyone in sight’ moments:D
By the way has anyone else found Oz’s smile at the end of the flashback incredibly creepy?

We’re going to see Vince’s face tomorrow, if RAW comes out. When they’re done with Grim Arc, we’ll be moving to one of the most exciting part of PH. The rest is up to the animators….

Oh, that one smile? The first time I saw it on the manga, I kinda had the feeling that Oz has thrown away a part of him or something like that…. That smile was kind of hollow but sad.
