Nurarihyon no Mago – 13

Recap. Dammit, this show is one huge tease. Every time it promises to get better, it finds some excuse to delay this to next week. Of course this is making me hungry to find out in what way this series is going to end up becoming awesome, but this is getting rather annoying…

Nurarihyon no Mago was the series that was looking forward to the most for the past summer season, and in that way it ended up disappointing me a bit. I’m a huge fan of its director, Junji Nishimura, but in order for him to really shine, he really needs to be working on an original series in which he really can let his creativity loose, and not being bound by some sort of source material.
Rating: – (Disappointing)

  1. “Every time it promises to get better, it finds some excuse to delay this to next week.”

This is what I call “bad shounen syndrome”.

I remember when I used to watch Naruto and Bleach and I was “well, this episode sucked, but at least it stopped at an interesting point, next episode should be good!” and it was the same for the next episode, and the next, and the next….

Nurarihyon has all the makings of a bad to average shounen.

All shounen should have Kekkaishi as their reference point. It wasn’t awesome but it managed to not be bad at anything.

It had solid plot, characters, pacing, animation. It never reached any levels of excellence in any area, but with not actually having any area in which it is bad, it made it a very pleasing experience.

  2. So is Nurarihyon no Mago better then Kekkaishi? been torn if i should start watching it or just go watch something other.

  3. So just to be clear are you against recaps? i mean do you think they are pointless. For shows like this yeah I feel they are pointless, if it was a more complicated story perhaps I would feel different.

I too really looked forward to this series and am a bit miffed at the moment.

  4. I can’t believe they did a recap show after 12 episodes. Nurarihyon no Mago is not that complicated.

Glad I saw it was going to be a recap before I wasted time watching it.

  5. What is with recaps these days anyway? They are starting to get quite common… hell, they are actually more useless then ever yet they are starting to appear more and more often.

Not that I am really bothered. Losing a week to a recap is not so bad, especially if there are other things to watch/do (and there always are).

  6. I’m a little bit annoyed by that recap as well but I can understand why they put one here.
Afterall, the new season is starting and I guess they want to attract some new watchers by giving them the chance to get into this series withut having to watch all the present episodes.
Like this, people can simply watch that recap and then start watching the new story arc together with all the other new premises of the new season.

  7. AnimeLuvr: let me put it this way: there have been recaps that I really enjoyed. My favourites that I can remember out of the top of my head right now are from Cross Game and Bokura no. It all depends on how much meaning the creators put into it, and this episode had none for me. I can understand its purpose of bringing in new viewers, but that doesn’t mean anything for people who were already watching it.

  8. @psgels i think the best one i’ve seen is one from Gundam Seed where everything was told from the main antagonist perspective. now that’s something you don’t see everyday. hell it even had footage that you might haven seen some in one episode but got everything on that episode.

  9. I already knew it was a recap… Don’t you people watch the previews? 😀

Anyway, this week was a total waste of time, and I don’t know why they decided to do it just when the arc was becoming interesting, well, I don’t see a reason for recaps in the first place.

I’m expecting things to reach an interesting level based on the manga. And this is much more interesting than Bleach & Co. Remember that Jump is also the magazine that published Death Note…

I hope next week will be better.

Uh listen up expert, this show or should I say manga does get better. The current arc that just got started is nice improvement over what came before and the currently long running arc is the “Kyoto” arc (it also happens to be called the kyoto arc or Gitsune!) of the manga.

Kekkaishi which is the best in its genre since One Piece hadn’t even stepped up a gear yet at the same episode count.
