Mobile Suit Gundam 00 – 48

Short Synopsis: It has arrived: the huge space fortress.
Episode Rating: 7,5/10 (Good)
I’m pretty surprised: while it hasn’t been anything amazing, the past few episodes have been pretty solid action. I was expecting the show to completely fall apart at this point… and it didn’t. Thumbs up for the creators. I’m never going to label this series among my favourites, but it’s still good to see that this ended up being such an enjoyable series.

So yeah, obviously Ribbons didn’t die. This really was the episode in which all hell breaks loose, and the body count was significantly increased: Regetta dies, Patrick dies for a second time, and Marie is also now potentially dead, though since we never actually saw her die, this means that she’s still going to appear in the next episodes. There’s still this matter of Allelujah vs. Hallelujah that needs to be taken care of, of course.

And yeah, of course I should have known that the big space fortress of this Gundam would be Veda: Ribbons’ headquarters. The army of clones was a bit too much, though. Especially since most of them seemed literally to have the intelligence of a bunch of flies more than anything. The biggest danger of these huge overwhelming numbers is of course the potential for power-level inconsistencies. Ribbons has been portrayed so much as the evil overlord that he seems nearly invincible at this point. But then again, he does have one weak point: when Veda’s gone, he’ll be screwed. It’s of course the perfect source of a grand climax: an exploding huge space fortress. Now all that’s left is to see how they’re going to do that. It’d be pretty anticlimactic if Setsuna would just barge in, hit the self-destruct button and flee outside again.

  1. we finally got to see the REAL Death Star lol.

Yeah, the kamikaze MS are too much. I don’t get it. Why did Ribbons make the Divine clones into kamikaze troops if their suits had Trans-Am? Send them out in a bunch of Aheads with Trans-Am would make a much more effective army imo.

  2. Really? You keep saying you expect this to fall apart, but I’ve already become pretty disappointed in how they are handling the ending. Whatever, I guess if it’s still enjoyable on some levels that’s what counts, I just feel that it’s not going to realize it’s full potential.

  3. The only problem I had with this episode was the mass produced Gaga (what a weird name to say in English!) and Bring/Devine clones doing a suicide attack. My brain went “What-?” when they all said “Trans-Am!” and charged toward Ptolmy. But besides that, I still find myself enjoying the show (though not quite as fervently as before without the modern political parallels).

  4. this episode was almost non stop action from start to finish, it made me feel a bit breathless at the end. still, it was pretty good, except for those gaga ms. what with them all having trans-am, yet why could the CB gundams without turning on their trans-ams, still destroy a lot of them quite easily? i thought with trans-am, they wolud move faster or something. and using trans-am just for a mass suicide attack turns the trans-am into something almost worthless. if the clones had fought the CB gundams while using trans-am, or gave those trans-am capable mobile suits to a-laws, most probably CB would have been destroyed already.

  5. And you say Zeta is emo? Oh… Seeing Setsuna lose time with that blonde girl just to be saying “we will creat another world, please understand” while their comarades are being beaten is really smart and non-emo, isnt it?

  6. Gustavo: hmm, good point. The Saji vs. Louise subplot really has been obnoxious and emo, though Zeta Gundam from what I remember just kept going on and on with the emo characters, while thankfully the past episodes of 00 had enough of other things to offer.

  7. Beside the gagas (did they really even have to shout trans-am…) it´s also quite noticable that each character gets conveniently confronted with his/her “nemesis” which while working “just as planned” isn´t always the ideal situation imho.

The Saji/Louise match has been set up since the very beginning but with other pairs I´m not so happy (Billy/Sumeragi).

And if anyone is wondering who matches up with Setsuna: Remember Bushido Bob was late last season too…

  8. The preview shows Soma/Marie, but thast basically it. I’d lol if Patrick came back, since I’m somewhat grew fond of his lol-ish character, yet still somewhat despite that, hate him for ruining Lockon Neils eye, but thats as far as it goes.

And next Ep has Setsuna becoming a full innovator? His Innovator name

    “Iam Gundam” XD

  9. Wow I can’t unsee those death flags..I can see everyone in CB dying except perhaps miss desu and Feldt..And even they have a very slim chance of surviving with the automatons just outside their door..

Is the clone army really necessary to pilot the Gagas?Gundam Wing and X had remote controlled suits if I remembered right,so why can’t 00 have them too?But it was still a good episode though, kept the suspense from start till the end.

What is up with Lyle though?I thought he didn’t care for revenge of his twin?
