This show is crazy. But that’s the interesting part about it. It’s completely over the top action and suspense, and it’s bound to be one hell of an entertaining series. The question now is: can it keep this pace up for the rest of the series, without self-destructing under its own ideas? That bomb girl that appeared in this episode particularly over the top, where she pretty much had planted bombs around an entire school building (not an unimpressive feat, by the way). It lead to quite an interesting episode to watch. Her major flaw again was that she’s portrayed as this complete psycho, without much more (you’re a terrorist bomber? That’s great, but how do you make money and where do you get your materials from?). Thankfully she managed to escape so that she can at least get some development later on, but so far this is the part where this series needs to work on the most at this point: giving a reason to care for the other diary holders. The chemistry between the two main characters is wonderful, though. Yuki in particular is how a wimpy male lead should be done. Instead of just acting bland like how most of his counterparts are done, this guy really acts scared and pathetic, especially around people he believes can help him. Also, did two main characters just kiss willingly in the second episode already? Thank you for not beating around the bush, actually! Rating: ** (Excellent) OP: A contender for the best OP of the season, if it didn’t spoil some of the rest of the characters. ED: A bit more subtle in introducing the rest of the characters, but also a bland song.]]>
it’s only getting started the craziness i mean.I’ve read the manga several times so i already know how things turn out,this part doesn’t even compare to those mind blowing events the later chapters has to offer.I’m really glad they’re sticking closely with the original material.^_^.The manga is already finished so i don’t expect any fillers
The terrorist bomber, Uryuu Minene, turns out to be one of the best characters in the series, so, look forward to it 😉
Nuuuu… Don’t tempt me to watch this series… Have too much on my plate already…
“That’s great, but how do you make money and where do you get your materials from?”
You didn’t pay much attention to the last episode huh? You would have known that, if you had a little anime-intuition… ^_^
err you might be jumping the gun too much with asking for character development, its all in due time, especially with your comment on Uryuu XD. Anycase its best to adopt a wait and see stance here because you really won’t have to worry about Diary users not developing, if they live it just means they’ll take time to develop. So don’t worry~
>complaining about Minene only being a psycho
>liking Yuno
hmmmmmm
Yeah, by the end this episode won’t even seem crazy.
The plotholes are epic though: where’s she get the bombs? How’d she have time to set them up? Why didn’t those books that got thrown set off any bombs, either motion bombs or the mines in the courtyard?
Best just to have fun with this one.
the OP completely won me over, I am excited about this one.
Like what people said, if they keep to the manga template (and I see no reason why they shouldn’t), shit is only getting started in terms of how crazy this will get.
This is the one show I looked forward to the most this season, and so far the anime team is showing that they know exactly what makes this manga tick. I’m impressed.
@Guest
None of those are actual plot holes: she makes them herself/where do any terrorists get bombs? Pretty sure she had the whole night to set them up. And they were set to detect motion at the doors, not the windows. And they threw the books at Minene so she obviously didn’t set any mines around herself.
The real plot hole is where did that bike come from? She threw that smoke screen so maybe it was behind the pillar she was standing in front of, but that is just a guess. Not like it matters.
Also Uryuu Minene: #1 cause for eye-patch fetishes.
LOL arguing on the internets. I’ll concede the point about the motion sensors but not the books: several dozen books got tossed, only a handful hit Minene or even came close, the rest were scattered all around the courtyard area. Seems improbable none of them would’ve set off one of the mines.
Let’s give Minene benefit of the doubt and assume she has beaucoup bombs at her disposal. I do find the timing dodgy: when I look at the size of the school it just seems implausible for her to have wired up that many bombs and that many sensors, etc., in a single night. Not impossible but implausible. Especially when you factor in that the place is supposed to be under police investigation due to the serial killings; Minene’s up to the task of planting bombs under their noses but it’d slow her down even more.
It gets more implausible if you try to figure out what she might’ve been thinking. If her goal was to take out the 1st it’s a gamble: she’d know about the school and the serial killer due to her job with the police, but she wouldn’t know about the sudden grade improvement until the morning. If her goal was to lure out the 4th any school would work, but how would she have known the 4th (or any) diary holder is on the police?
The chronology is tight here: it starts at the early evening of the day before when the 1st + 2nd take out 3rd; that night Deus calls his meeting and explains the rules of the game; the next day Minene shows up at school around lunchtime. It had to be that tight to prevent 1st + 2nd from getting a chance to talk before Minene shows up (never mind that post-3rd-defeat meal together…), but that forces Minene to get an awful lot done in under 12 hours (she has from maybe 8 or 9pm at the earliest to maybe 5 or 6 am at the latest…).
Which is why it’s not worth thinking too much about what happens: logistically stuff doesn’t make a ton of sense, but it makes sense in the story and it’s a fun story all around.
I like where this is going.
It doesn’t make sense, but it was still fun to watch.
I think I rather like that weird/creepy relationship between the stalker girl and the main character, it’s not your typical setting that’s for sure.
i know you dont watch previews psgels, but post-credits point out some interesting links to ep1 (nothing new revealed) which show a greater level of planning in the story. I’d like to hear your view on this.
Bar none, my favorite show this season.
Passed the 2nd episode test (too many anime shows blow their wad with the first episode and fall back on conventional/cliched tropes by the second).
Passed the multi-layed plot test (seeds in the first episode blossomed, so expect more)
Upped the ante from serial killer and psycho stalker with terrorist bomber.
NEXT!
It’s strange how in this show you shouldn’t dwell at how the stuff happens, as most of stuff won’t make any sense, like bike or the bombs…
But at the same time, at the end of the show, they put that creature to explain why/how the 4 and 9 got to the first…
And more, Yuno doesn’t seem like a like psycho at all… I must admit after all the talk about Mirai Nikki, i checked the manga and her expressions on the anime are quite weak.
@Gabriel
LOL, just keep on watching/reading. If she still doesn’t seem like a psycho at the very end, I’d have to question your judgment.
@Ebod
I think Gabriel is referring to Guno’s facial expressions in the anime. And I must admit it’s quite weak compared to the manga.
Well, let’s see what happens – this anime still exceeds my expectations, especially having Asread adapt an excellent manga.
Dang, this episode was exciting! It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a really good thriller. If this keeps up, this may very well be a contender for best anime this year…
