We now back to the status quo on Mayoiga this week, as the group who left the village decided to come back, and the cliffhanger happened last week was never explained probably. I will say this upfront: this is not a good episode. We don’t learn much after it ends. We have even longer conversations between the cast compare to last few weeks, and even more ridiculous cliffhanger.
But we do learn a few more new things in this episode. Most interesting bit is that they perceive completely differently about the noise they heard (it could be a beast, a robot, giant wings, or a laughter). That could be a hint to the mystery. The lost village can be a place where we deal with our own problems, we see what we afraid to see. In other words, we reach to our darkness side. This could be an interesting aspect to explore but hell, Mayoiga sure doesn’t show us much of a clue here. This week spend too much time on the cast arguing with each other, and truthfully, I’m getting tired of them accusing each other episodes after episodes here, especially when they just repeating the same traits over and over again (I dare you to find a line in which Lovepon doesn’t scream “executed”). If the show indeed relies on those characters’ interactions for its mystery, then this can be redeemed, otherwise, I don’t see a reason why there are too much of this.
The other bit of information we gather is Lion’s ability to see the dead, or to be more exact, she has an ability to see people about to die. This is a good character moment for Lion and it’s not really come as a surprise, seeing her as the mysterious and quiet type from the beginning, but the reveal scene is still somewhat absurd. The cliffhanger at the end actually leaves me more annoyed than engaged, the characters just keep sprouting random names here, just like last week’s driver’s daughter, and I bet next week we learn a bit of who is this Tokimune again, only to be left forgotten for the rest of the show. Why the heck should I care then?
It looks like Masaki on the verge of revealing something to Mitsumune here. I hope they don’t take few more episodes until we get that bit of information. In fact, Mayoiga gives us very little information to work with. The worse thing is that if it keeps on dragging like that, people will start to lose interest in the mystery, if not already.

I find it really amusing at how much of an anomaly Lovepon is. She is not hiding the fact that she is mentally unstable, completely psychotic and extremely dangerous yet when the time comes for glasses to throw out accusations no one even thinks of suspecting Lovepon. She’s constantly shouting to kill people and it’s like the cast just shrugs it off.
This show has become a complete joke at this point so if you want to cover something else instead Mario then feel free to. Though I plan to keep watching this, mainly because it’s entered so bad it’s good territory.
Nah, we’re almost halfway to the series already so I will continue to cover it, now the more I think about Mayoiga the more I see it as an (unintentional?) deadpan comedy. Maybe looking at it that way will improve my enjoyment with the show.
I think the right term for how this show feels like is B-movie.
The whole project is so much of a failed experiment for everyone involved.
I haven’t come around to translating it into English yet (if anybody knows German, I translated it from Japanese into German for a friend first), but there is an interview with Okada Mari about how Mayoiga was made.
Okada basically admits that she didn’t write the story, Mizushima (the director) basically took the approach of letting EVERYONE working on the story contribute and then Okada had to combine that into one complete plot-outline. They continued that while already working on the scripts and storyboards apparently, with her revealing that there were several points where a new decision undid lots of stuff they decided the days before that.
This could very well be the source of why this show is so incredibly uneven.
Thanks seizonsha for the useful information. I can see that Okada was the one who created those characters: they all have their distinct characters traits, but the story is mundane at best.
To say that I think this is a nice approach, but still… bad luck for Mayoiga.
Most of the characters sound like their on shrooms… I’m guessing that some moron placed wild “mushrooms” into their soup in one of the previous episodes, but honestly it also could me miasma which is common in such areas hence the previous villagers abandoned the village. I’m having the urge to re-watch Another thanks to what Lion said =_=”
you forgot that Narna keep offering her “candies” to everyone
I have to admit that I enjoy it, even if you consider the writing. It’s fun to specualte about it and guess possible solutions. As most people have already guessed Tokimune might be Mitsumune’s dead twin, a scene with him(?) and that pinguin thing Mitsumune saw at the end of this episode was already shown in a short flashback in episode 1. I just wonder if they get drugged by someone on purpose or if there is something in the atmosphere there that makes people go mad.
My main concern is the lack of actual corpses and confirmed deaths. I really don’t want one of these ‘it was all a show to scare anti-social and depressive people to make them appreciate their life again’-kinds of plots.
Interesting. I never pick up the twin thing before. Another possible outcome could be they were already dead from the bus crash in the 1st episode, so that’s why they can be able to enter the Lost village and see dead people there :). Believe me if there is one show can pull it off it would be Mayoiga.
