So apparently we’re now in anime original territory? Well, this episode didn’t feel as solid in the adventure department, but that may also be because if I got things right, the episode director of this episode was the director of Glass no Kantai… In any case, I’m glad that the creators are now already building up to their own ending, rather than doing this, say, during the final three episodes.
What I meant with that this episode wasn’t as solid as the others was that strange point of Aria fanservice that felt totally out of place for this series, or the way in which Nichi suddenly pulled another power out of nowhere(she can now even make wheelchairs), that conveniently located trap door for Nichi or that very badly animated horse carriage…
At the same time though, there was still plenty of good stuff here, most of it revolving around Gauche versus Lag. The scene in which Gauche pretty much tells him that he simply received a bunch of Lag’s memories is quite powerful, but at the same time we got confirmed that the letter bullet at least partially worked: if Gauche entirely spoke the truth in that scene, he would have been able to kill Lag easily.
Rating: * (Good)
Lag, Gauche is a siscon. He’ll never love you as much even if you dress up like her.
Yep, anime original and the anime original episodes always feel weaker to me (not sure why but the characters just don’t seem to behave quite right). Little sore that we won’t see some cool parts of the manga now but that is what the manga is for I suppose.
Lol they brought back the part about Garrard and Valentine faking being government officers. Good grief, why at this time now? It’s useless. Don’t they think it’s useless to recicle discarded plot elements like that whitout the context they were suitable in?
Is it not just my impression the chars are starting acting out by now? This is what they got for screwing up a perfect plot like that.
Solaris: so, you mean to say that the manga is better because it never brought back a plot thread that originally was meant to build up to something?
Psgels you obviously know what’s cause-effect relation, don’t you? It’s also called plot continuity, as a plot is mostly made of a chain of those. If you change an event, you’d be changing any other consequential event to that. If you change a key event, like they actually did, you’d destroy the plot completely. And they actually did it. There’s no other choice. That’s exactly what they did when they formerly introduced Garrard and Valentine as marauders too early. As a consequance of that, plot continuity was severed, and the result is there’s a big short-circuit soon after Lag brought Gauche back with him, that’s exactly when the duo would have been introduced naturally. Half a dozen manga chapters worth of plot disappeared into thin air bacause of that.
Of course it’s not forbidden to bring one key event like that, but, of course, that event can’t trigger the former chain events any more, so it’s kinda wasted potential. Now it should be meant for some other purpouses, that i don’t see any more at this time. Is it really plotwise right faking being governors officers at this point of the story, now that Gauche-Noir has escaped by himself now or rather it is a poor attempt to bring back soething they missed before? I still call that useless.
I just hope that letter bee won’t go down the rurouni kenshin road and then die horribly. So far fillers were good and in some cases even excellent, but now that they’re in uncharted waters, this could go anywhere…
