And with this episode, all remaining threads for as far as I know have been neatly wrapped up, aside from the Thenardiers. Now… what the heck is going to happen in the final four episodes!? The only hint we have is Jean, who spent the episode trying to decide where to go from now. Cosette is happy with Marius, and she’s finally reached the point where she doesn’t need him anymore. Now, what is Jean going to do? In the rest of the episode, Marius tries to find the guy who saved him (he doesn’t remember that it was Jean), and Jean eventually ends up lying about how he wasn’t the one, and he made up a story of how he got away in the confusion. Marius also finally runs into Gavroche, and breaks the news of Eponine’s death to him and Cosette. He has settled his differences with his grandfather, and yes, he ends up proposing to Cosette. Awww. :3 One thing I am glad for, by the way, is that the animators found themselves some budget again. Especially the proposal-scene looked really pretty.]]>
I noticed Javert showed up again in this episode – d’you have any idea what he said in the conversation between him and his superior (who I assume is M. Gisquet)? I’m hoping it was a resignation, but my Japanese is beyond horrid, so… xD;
My own japanese isn’t much better, but from what I understood, Gisquet asked Javert what his plans for the future of his job were, and Javert asked that he’d like to keep working at the position he is now. Piquet then mentions how Javert has changed a bit (heh).
Oh, blah. xP Thanks for the translation, then!
*sigh* And Nippon has officially plunged into the knife. (Javert-wise, at least.) It makes me very, very sad.
Huh, I’ve only seen episodes 45 and 46, but I have not detected any major problems with graphics. I thought you were referring to characters, though, and maybe you meant the scenery. Well, either way, it pretty much escaped my notice. Except for Javert, but then again they’ve always been kinda screwy and inconsistent with him. Grrrrr . . .
Well, especially episode 47 had some really bad animation, and I meant the characters with it.
Well, I especially loved the fact that Marius finally told Cosette about Eponine’s death and that he actually had known her! At least, he showed himself grateful to her, I mean that she saved him. Because in the previous one he kept remembering everyone except her althought she’s the first one he has to think of. Well, it was nice to see Gavroche and Cosette crying over her death , it cleared up one thing : despite everything they cared about her. And when Marius talked Cosette and Gavroche about Eponine wishing him to protect Gavroche .All that was really heart-breaking and it again made me cry. Well, I don’t cry often when a character dies ( actually there are just two other characters I felt sad for: Marie-Antoinnette in Lady Oscar and Euphie in Code geass and Diva in Blood +) and most of all I never cried as much as I did when Eponine died. There were no end to my tears. So she meant more than just a character to me. But I won’t be able to explain cause it’s not any clearer for me. So I particularly liked the way Cosette and Gavroche reacted. It’s good to see they won’t forget her.
I sense impending doom for poor Valjean. Everyone else is so happy about Cosette and Marius’ marriage and he’s becoming majorly depressed. I kept imagining him thinking throughout the episode, “Gee, with Cosette going off with Marius and Javert not chasing me anymore, I’ve really got nothing to do.” That’s what most people call “retirement.” ^^,
By the way, did anyone notice that Javert’s irises got a little bigger, especially in the last few shots of him? This seems to happen every time a character (usually male) turns “good.” It happened with Valjean when he went from convict to saintly philanthropist (you notice it more in episode 2), and when Alain went from thieving street rat to employed caretaker. I guess it makes the characters seem more sympathetic or something.
He’s not scowling as much, either. Even though this change infuriates my canon-loving side, it’s kinda cute, too. What’s the last thing he says while he’s looking up at the sky?
I stumbled across here and read the entries… I watch the Korean subs when I can and just watch them without if they aren’t up. They’re fully up-to-date now.
Javert says something like ‘Jean Valjean, as a repayment to this new life you gave me, I will live it well’.
…I figured that since psgels isn’t going to be watching any new episodes for some time, we could probably start the discussion for SC49 here. 😛
Any comments, guys?
I really liked it, considering that I couldn’t understand a word of it. But there were a lot of flashbacks, which was helpful. I’m actually a person who doesn’t cry a lot at movies and such, and I was on the verge of crying in that scene where Sister Simplice was telling Cosette about what happened to Fantine.
Just a few things I need some clarification on: is Alain the mayor of M-sur-M now (if so, that’d be WAY too much of a coincidence), and was the nursery named after Fantine?
OMG I saw the trailer for ep. 50 and it looks like EVERYONE is coming back! Yes, even Javert and Thenardier and Cosette’s three friends from the convent! I am SO psyched!
I couldn’t tell if Alain was mayor or not, but I was actually rather happy to see him again. I know, he’s an uncanonical bit character, but he was kind of cool for the short period of time he was actually involved in the plot, and I’d always wondered if they’d just left him hanging in M-sur-M with nothing to do. xP
Although it does beg the question of whether or not M-sur-M went through the period of economic turmoil that Hugo described took place after Valjean left. My Japanese isn’t good enough to tell, so. xD
SPOILER WARNING BELOW 😀
Yeah, it does look like the plot’s finally kicking back in! 😀 I wonder how they’ll fit Javert into this – the only thing I can think of is Marius spotting him in the street or something so he realizes Valjean didn’t actually shoot him. xP
*SPOILER WARNING*
Well, I know that episode 51 is called “The Truth Revealed” and ep. 52 is called “The Silver Candlestick.” So Thenardier’s appearance at Marius’ place will obviously occur somewhere in the first episode. I had this vague theory that Javert somehow tails Thenardier to Marius’ home and ends up rectifying Thenardier’s lies and Marius’ misconceptions about Valjean. Not the most likely route, but kind of kick ass when I think about it. X)
Hehe, here’s an interesting formula:
Thenardier + Javert = WEDDING CRASHERS!
Thus speaks my inner dork. =P
SPOILERS, KIND OF!
Oh, I love that idea! Javert’s missed so many chances to be kickass in this anime that that would totally make up for all of those chances, even if he’s not supposed to be alive. xD
And by “idea” I mean Javert popping in to set everything straight. Although the idea of him crashing the wedding with Thenardier is just as unbelievably amazing.
…you know what, I want to see that just as much now. xD
I know. LOL
So, uh . . . I guess we could go ahead and talk about ep. 50 now, if anyone has seen it.
I just watched it yesterday, so spoiler warning for everything below! xD
I’m vaguely disappointed that Javert didn’t crash the wedding – also that the clip in the preview was really all we saw of him in the episode. xD I’m also completely unsurprised about them not killing off Mme. T., even though I’m not happy about it either.
And when the heck are Marius and Cosette going to kiss – or was that too complicated for the animators? (I couldn’t help but notice that the animation quality went down again this episode. *sad*) What does a girl have to do to get some M/C fluff around here? xD
Also – yay, it finally looks like Thenardier’s going to make his comeback next episode! I was also vaguely intrigued to see Javert standing outside M. Gillenormand’s – I wonder what he’s doing there?
…you know what? Nippon would make up so much for their grievous crimes toward canon *cough*suicide*hack* if Javert burst in on Marius and Thenardier and hauled Thenardier’s sorry ass back to jail in true Javert style. Mme. T. and Azelma are out of Paris now, so that’s basically the only possible option I can see for Thenardier anyway, regardless of whether or not Javert makes a badass arrest. xD
Can’t get my hopes up, though. We all know what happened the last time I did. >.>
Gah, I still haven’t seen it. *groan* I hate it when the trailers are misleading. But I guess I should be used to that here in the U.S. ^^,
Hehe, maybe Javert is trying to get his gun back. Seriously, though, if he’s still around, he’s gotta do something BIG. Or else there is really no point in having him show up after ep. 46.
Has Valjean slipped away into his little hole of depression yet? He looked so sad in the episode(trailer).
Not yet – there’s a vague cliffhanger – he tells Marius that he used to be a convict, and Marius goes “o.o” and the episode ends.
So my guess is that they’ll cram in a buttload of plot next episode in an attempt to make up for the time wasted with the useless “Cosette and Gavroche go to M-sur-M” filler ep.
Yeah, the odd thing about that episode is that it takes away the necessity of Valjean telling Cosette about her mother later. If everything is going to play out the way it normally would, why bother having Cosette go to M-sur-M? My guess is that they’ve got something else in mind. *gulp* Which may include Javert. *keeps fingers crossed*
The episode was a nice Fantine tribute, though. Most versions just blot her out after her death and only refer to her at the very end. It was also an explanatory episode for everyone in M-sur-M, which was cool.
I do admit it was kind of nice to see Alain and Sister Simplice again. xD
But yeah, definitely keeping fingers crossed for 51. A few notable exceptions aside, Nippon’s been surprisingly good with the plot. Let’s hope they don’t disappoint!
*WARNING! SOME SPOILERS AHEAD!*
Oh, pooh, I know what you mean. Man, one freaking shot of Javert. That’s just cruel! But a few other things I want to mention.
1) Yeah, I definetely saw the animation go wayword a few times. What is up with World Masterpieces’ budget? Or their animators?
2) Gavroche’s boys were SO CUTE, especially when they sang. Completely adorable. And the wedding was pretty.
3) My gosh, Mme. Thenardier LOST WEIGHT! She’s mad thin now (well, not as thin as Eponine or Azelma ever were, but still . . .) But I guess that’ll happen when you’ve been in prison for a while. It sounded like she and Azelma were planning to return to Montfermeil. They do seem a bit happier and nicer now that Thenardier is out of their lives, which I can understand.
Ah, Thenardier, still scheming, although he’s gonna have to do this solo. I saw the trailer for ep. 51 and his disguise is flippin’ hilarious. And yay, we can finally see Marius act like an overprotective jerk.
Oh yeah, and I liked seeing Gillenormand a little tipsy. 😀
Yeah, drunk!Gillenormand was awesome, especially because I remember him being a total spaz in the book. xD “By the big slippers of big slipperdom!”
OMG really? *runs off to find book* lol
Yay, psgels is back! You’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do here, but I’m confident you can pull it off. And, as I’m sure I’ve said before, I cannot WAIT to see how the rest of the series unfolds. Only two episodes left! It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 51 BELOW!
asdfjkl;I was right for once! *so incredibly gleeful right now* I have no idea what anyone was saying but omg for once That Guy In The Greatcoat Who Isn’t Dead is badass enough to be called Javert, and – and – eeee.
It’s terribly uncanon, plotwise, but for once Javert is in character and right now that’s all I really care about. xD Nippon has begun to redeem themselves with this episode. Just a little, but it’s totally better than nothing.
*wants to squee really loudly* Oh god I MUST see this episode. GAH! And psgels, I know you’re incredibly busy, but PLEASE try to get back to this show ASAP. Pwease?
