Last Exile – Ginyoku no Fam – 06

And as if nothing happened last week, this episode just continues building further upon the excellent setting and atmosphere that this show already had. While last week was just too silly, this episode had a much better balance between light hearted stuff and dark material. This episode also introduces this noblewoman, and I really like how smug her acting was. The creators really nailed that air of importance around her. Milia had to get dressed up for her again, but this time it at least makes more sense. This time it fits into the setting, rather than having Millia just pull a maid costume out of her ass. In terms of building up, Fam’s past was nice, and Milia’s home country also got thrown into an interesting direction here. I did however spot a number of recycled cells here and there. In particular the CG overviews of the past episodes were used again here. That’s good of course, since they are gorgeous. Even Porfy no Nagai Tabi, which stood out for some of the best background art out there, reused its backgrounds. But this show looks so damn pretty that I really wish that the characters would visit some more different sites. Rating: * (Good)]]>

  1. I thought this episode was awesome! I don’t understand why it only got a Good but oh well, you’ve probably seen better. I don’t know how the first series was, I didn’t watch it but I’m really loving this.

  2. I enjoyed this episode!
At first I was a bit dubious about Fam winning, but she had a lot riding on it, and the way they showed that with the flashbacks and the music worked for me.
I was expecting the fuel dump, as that’s been used before, but that trick at the end was pretty neat!
Fam may be the main chara, but I have more respect for Giselle.. I liked the quiet moment between her and Tatiana’s navi. And I wonder if at some point Fam and Giselle will have a fallout.
What is also great is that the story seems to be developing.
Vasant, willing dog of the Federation, or is she? (he?)
And Lusciana.. murdering so many people under a very blatantly false pretext and then spreading the word about it, what is his game? What is his end motive? I don’t think it’s the one he says it is, but I can’t figure him out!
I also liked the scene with Augusta, she’s not just a puppet, she seems to be taking part in redistribution of land and it’s to show that she is rather intelligent.
So this episode had politics, murder, intrigue, and races!
And of course Sylvius are gaining more battleships. I am getting a little excited about the potential of the final showdown!
the last part when we found out no one had put a bet on Fam was also fun.
Like imredjimmy, I think this deserved better than good. It was more than solid. Although I’m not sure it’d rate excellent, if there was a somewhere inbetween….

  3. My theory is the Federation has been infiltrated by the Guildists and they are going to set the girl up as a puppet leader.
This episode just felt like a repeat of the race in the first series, but less impressive.
