Kuragehime – 08

Awesome: this episode again keeps the balls in the air instead of waiting and dragging out for too long. The developments were fairly simple at first sight, but it’s here where the characters get themselves a bit of depth.

First and foremost, Tsukimi and Kuranosuke. At first I thought that these two were completely different in every single way, but they do have something that ties them together: they both have mother complexes. Tsukimi was wonderful in this episode, amidst the chaos that was Kuranosuke trying to get the Sisterhood to cooperate, when she lost herself in her memories of her mother with the Jellyfish dolls. It’s also interesting how Kuranosuke is always dressing up Tsukimi, only to fall for her afterwards. It’s his love for fancy dresses here that probably plays a huge part in this, along with Tsukimi’s charms that are completely different from all of the girls that he had known so far.

Yet: why are people so dense in anime? All members of the sisterhood saw Kuranosuke’s boob pads, and yet they turned it into a silly misunderstanding. Density is a way too overused plot device in anime, and unfortunately even this series didn’t escape it.

Shuu meanwhile was mostly hilarious with that private investigator that was sent after him. Especially the scene in which that driver accidentally called Shuu about the matter was hilarious.

The final three episodes can still end this show wonderfully if they want to. It’s now up to the creators to have the guts to actually do this, instead of just continuing the manga blindly until it runs out of episodes. Especially for Noitamina series a good ending is very important, since they’re so short.
Rating: ** (Excellent)

  1. “It’s now up to the creators to have the guts to actually do this, instead of just continuing the manga blindly until it runs out of episodes.”

I rather they keep close to the manga and go for a second season. By this point the chaces for a second season seem really good with this show.

  2. A second season would be wonderful but is it really likely for this show to get one? I don’t know how popular it is in Japan.

Yet again a wonderful episode! I really loved how they made the jellyfish dolls, it was so cute! And the superfast sewing was awesome in its own way.
But the brother and the driver were hilarious, too!
And Kuranosuke starting to realize his feelings and the last scene at the window… so cute and heartwarming..!

Really this episode was almost perfect. It had those cute and warm moments and yet never failed to deliver some reylly good laughs as well. I really liked it!

By the way, I think the sisters just don’t WANT to realize that Kuronuske is a man. Because then they would have to admit to themselves that they were ineracting and even kind of liking (as friend) a man.
And rather then even thinking about that they rather go with “flat-chested” etc.
All of them have already been shown to simply ignore facts that won’t go along with their little world, so why not pretending everything is alright with “Kurako” as well?
It would be definitely easier for them to find excuses to explain Kuranosukes strange behavior then admitting to habe had contact with man and even letting him be in their sanctum.

  3. Meh, it’s Noitamina. The notorious time slot that’s usually too short and without a chance of a season II.

About the density, I actually think the density perfectly suits the Amars. Not saying that I dislike them (I absolutely love Mayaya, Bamba, and Chieko…Jiji is too in the background though…), but they are sort of ignorant and off in their own separate worlds, shunning society. So it makes sense.

I mean, Special A is a bad example of density. Hikari is the main character and she’s super smart. The poor main guy kisses her TWICE, and she still doesn’t understand that he likes her. She’s sharp and she picks up things quickly, as shown with her skills in fighting and her high marks, but she’s still dense and hell…

Amars were never really that sharp to start with…so making them super dense makes sense.

Hahaha. Kuranosuke. I think I love him more with each episode.

  4. I found this episode wondeful too, but it’s like this with each and every episode of this fabulous series!!! Definitely my favorite this season!!!It overflows with original ideas! I’ve never thought about jellyfish plush toys, not something we can find at every corner, must admit. And so many fun moments even with side characters, just exploded with laughter when Shuu’s friend called Shuu by mistake and so the whole spying issue on him was revealed just that easily, the other’s face was unexpressive to the utmost !

  5. This show is adorable, I love it. About the density of the Amars: you’d be surprised how easily mistaken people can be when they deal with ever so slightly androgynous folks. When they expect to see a woman, they see a woman, when they expect to see a man, they see a man.

  6. Mayaya and other Amars are full of inferiority complex, and they don’t like other people to stare at them and to ask personal issues. So Mayaya tends to avoid starring at others and to miss the details, I think.

Amars do not know much each other. But now with Kuranosuke, Amas are going to give themselves away and to face the reality. We will know more about Mayaya later.

“Being dense” is a common element of Japanese gag comics. I enjoy their absurd remarks such as a weaving crane.

I honestly really liked your little analysis on why the Amars miss the obvious ! That was very clever!
