This episode… was something else. Talk about gore here, seriously. This episode was a really intense one thanks to that demented villain who didn’t care at all how much she wrecked her own body. Usually when anime use regenerative powers, it makes the action scenes rather dull, but this really is one exception because the creators still managed to make the gore look really painful.
After all of the build-up, it also was great to see Hellscythe finally use her words. Seriously, the last thing I’d expected this series to be was a good drama, but this show knows exactly how to create a tense atmosphere and use its characters for the best with it.
Now, this episode did introduce what will probably be the major villain of this show… who still needs a ton of work though. He’s quite generic at this point: really evil and brainwashes others to do evil stuff for him. His back-story of being related to Hellscythe could promise to be interesting, but if his character isn’t interesting then that backstory also isn’t worth much.
Rating: ** (Excellent)
You forgot to mention the huge amount of fan service in this episode. Even considering the previous episodes, this one was a bit excess. I mean there were two practically naked girls, covered in only black dots!
That said, im not complaining (too much)!
@ chris bennett
sometimes you need to serve certain fanbase. just like other zombie anime.
Reminds me of the guy with regenerative powers in Naruto who fought using his own bones, dying of bone cancer 😮
the best episode so far. Ayumu Kicks @$$
I suppose that it’s because of this that it barely passed broadcast standards XD Not that I mind, it was an excelent episode.
Card Captor Sakura. Good choice, Ayumu, good choice.
@chris bennett: While there was a reasonable amount of semi-nudity in this episode I dont think it was handled in a particular ‘fan-servicey’ way. You just need to look at Index to see how to do similar things in a much more perverted way! IMHO I think the previous episode with the girl-on-girl at the start was much more of a fanservice episode.
Still going solid as the best surprise of the season… its one of those genre defying types
Not many series manage to put comedy, drama and action so well together
This ep finally made me figure out why they made him a masou shoujo. A boy dressed in girl’s clothing is somehow less offensive as a deadly opponent for a woman. Teenage boys can’t hit girls, but a boy in a dress can.
It’s starting to make sense why he can absorb other abilities now (Mahou Shojou): It’s Hellscythe’s power. So he probably has a few other powers he’ll be able to unlock since he’s her Zombie.
